I love that she let him apologize without responding "it's okay". Her response was basically that it didn't ruin her night and wasn't at the center of her awesome achievement and experience. Such a great response.
She was not going to let the narrative of his foolishness cloud her accomplishment....even if it had a hint of private irritation. Graceful response indeed.
I love that she didn’t let other people’s emotions control her perception. Good for him for owning his actions and good for her for redirecting the attention back to her work!
Oh please she's Black she CAN'T respond how she wants to!!! If she didn't accept his apology which I would NOT have people would have something to say!! She's damned if she does damned if she doesn't!! 🤷🏿♀️
The problem with that Emmy’s bit was it ran too long. Jimmy should’ve gotten up as soon as Quinta walked up the stage. However I do not think think Jimmy Kimmel had malicious intent.
I had almost the same thought... except I figured it would have been perfect if he got up when she spoke to him, asked where he was, and then just walked off...or sumptin like that!
The ridiculous thing about all the commentary is that people seem to think he somehow did it to her. He did not know who the winner was gonna be, and I doubt there would be as much outrage if someone else had won.
“as an actress i’m really upset at the producers for making that the case… and as the producer i think the actors should fall in line” LOL that was amazing, so funny & talented
Even though he didn’t mean to upstage her or ruin her moment, he did and I’m glad he apologized. I also appreciated that he corrected himself from “I’m very sorry if I did do that” to “I’m sorry I did do that actually”. It’s clear he didn’t mean to do it but it doesn’t matter. He DID steal her moment and he should apologize (as he has). I also liked that he let her crash the monologue-that was a fun bit in addition to just the apology he owed her. Even when we do something without malicious intent, it’s important to recognize when we’ve hurt someone and apologize fully (no “I’m sorry IF”). This is a good example of how to go about apologizing when you screw up.
Great explanation of the problem. A lot of comments I read failed to explain why it’s a problem even if it’s not I’ll intended. As I was taught, it’s about the impact, not the intent, of the action that was perpetrated.
@@ultimatenightmares Do you really think he is sorry? Just wondering. He took one minute to apologize to her, like it was a passing thing. He doesn't care.
@@karend169 oh so should he have spent more of the interview reveling in HIS own sorry feelings about the situation? She was a pre-booked guest tonight.
@@karend169 actually if u had listened to the Howard Stern show ud know Jimmy is Howards best friend and he spoke about the situation and a conversation he had with Jimmy and although She and Jimmy arent close friends they are friendly and this whole apology and her forgiving him was a genuine moment, he apologised to her in person when the whole thing 1st blew up he didnt just wait for a staged moment. Anyways i didnt comment to argue with people I only stated that it would be nice if people on social media could act like adults. Thats all I have to say on the matter take care 🙂
What stands out here is Quinta's grace and professionalism. She had every right to call out his poor behavior, but instead focused on accepting his apology and uplifting the success of her show. If only the powerful White men in the industry could consistently be so humble and self-aware.
@@matthewparrilla4888 it wasn't funny, unprofessional and flat out rude to somebody winning an award. especially for the first time. If you call that a joke you need new humor.
Jimmy didn't GIVE her this time. She was already scheduled to be there, she stated that in the press conference room. And unfortunately she HAS to be gracious. Yet did you notice he made it about himself again. 🙄
Jimmy has been a champion of her show. There was no bad intent. He just didn’t make the right decision in the moment. That has happened to all of us at some point. His apology was sincere!
Actually she was suppose to come on the show even before this. Quinta mentioned it right after she won in the press conference that she would talk to him about it on Wed. Also wouldn’t you want to be apologized to in person face to face? Celebrities are always under the microscope I’m glad these two could talk it out.
He just need to stop with EVERY TIME he goes to the ceremony doin somethin stupid. It's never been as funny as he thought & this one was the worst. He n Will Arnett ALWAYS do this. They jus need to stop. Stop!! LOL
This is a bit annoying, honestly, since Christopher Meloni hadn't been on SVU for 10 years, and, honestly, it was better without him because he was kind of a toxic character.
I just love Quinta so much! And I felt Jimmy's apology was sincere it's good that he did apologize and you can tell they have a sincere relationship and he respects her.
Can we discuss what a great show Abbott Elementary is? One episode in and it was instantly of our favorites! Brava to her for her win and for creating such an amazing show.
This looked like an honest apology. I'm glad this moment happened live on tv! Quinta is such an awesome person- I'm glad to hear that it didn't ruin her night
Congratulations to Quinta. So well deserved. And her coming on was a perfect way to let everyone know how they truly feel and Jimmy was being Jimmy he would not have hurt her in any way at all he's a very sweet sincere person and you know it by the way he acts and feels....he has a good heart.
Okay, but Quinta didn't come on because of the controversy. She said backstage at the Emmys that she was previously booked to appear on Kimmel's show on Wednesday night and joked that she may punch him.
I'm so happy the air is cleared. Taking note on how they immediately moved on. They have a friendship prior to this. I don't care, I'm a firm believer that some grudges aren't worth holding. Thank you for apologizing and thank you Quinta for being such a class act. I can't wait for the second season
Quinta Brunson is so talented and lovely and gracious, she deserves all of the good things coming her way. Abbott Elementary is great and I can't wait for season 2!
This was already scheduled for tonight before the controversy. Quinta mentioned it to the press the night of the awards. Guess it just worked out in their favour to clear the air now
@@RW-gp1dq The previous night’s show was already pre recorded before the Emmys controversy happened. That’s why it wasn’t addressed until now. Even tho the show is called Jimmy Kimmel LIVE, it’s not actually live lol. It’s recorded in the afternoon & airs late at night. All late night talk shows are actually filmed during the day & air later that night.
“As an actress, I’m really upset at the producer of the show for making that the case [having to work day after the Emmys. As the producer of the show, I think everyone should just fall in line….” You better flex on them Quinta 💪🏾 Kudos for her being gracious to Jimmy’s apology. He really doesn’t deserve it. And him blaming Will Arnett is stupid, but whatever, it’s about her first and foremost. Omgrats Quinta!!
I think Jimmy did deserve it, because he didn't mean to upstage her moment. He recognized he did and apologized. The Will Arnett comment was a joke. He wasn't actually blaming Will. Also, he championed to get her show on the air to begin with. He's been a cheerleader for the show since before you or anyone else saw it.
I appreciate his apology and ownership of his poor choice. I believe it was sincere. I appreciate the way she accepted it and didn't do what most of us women do and say "it's okay." I'm truly happy for all her wins and great reviews.
As a aspiring writer and director, I would absolutely love to work with Quinta. Her humor and the way she wants to tell black stories that aren’t about us being oppressed is just so inspirational.
She said in an interview before her appearance on Jimmy's show that she was going to pretend to be mad at him. It's not a big deal. She still took home the award. And she's happy. And I'm happy for her!!!
the thing i love is she didn't let someone else's mediocrity ruin the recognition and celebration of her brilliant achievement. she's not a victim but a victor and she enjoyed her moment. also props to jimmy for apologizing and owning up to what he did.
Jimmy’s a comedian. He tried a skit, didn’t think the time constraints all the way through, and apologized. Doesn’t deserve the hate he’s getting, and I’m glad these two could resolve it with humor. The bigger issue in my opinion is the Emmys only giving winners 45 seconds to speak. Julia Garner didn’t even have enough time thank her husband.
@@ayush9791 So what do you think should happen now? After he addressed and recognized he was in the wrong in that moment by publicly and in person apologized? You talk as if he is defending his actions.
She's clearly an optimist. "I won my first Emmy", not "I won an Emmy." Great!!! Plus anyone who thinks of Christopher Meloni as 'Law' hasn't watched "Happy!"
He deserved EVERYTHING that was said!! As Black women we understood what she was actually feeling and couldn't/can't honestly respond to it the way she really wants to. She had to "walk/step" over him to get her award. Then she said "Jimmy I won" that was his queue to get up and out the damn way. Just remember how piss you were when Kanye West did what he did to Taylor Swift. 🙄 An ADULT wouldn't have laid on the floor during another deserving adult's moment of recognition.
@@alexandrajackson8498 not defending Jimmy, I think it was tonedeaf and he screwed up with that little sketch he did but it's not really the same with Kanye is it? Kanye walked up to the stage with all the intention to demean Taylor Swift, he basically said she didn't deserve the award and embarrassed her and probably embarrased Beyonce as well in front of everyone while Jimmy Kimmel stole the center stage and ruin the acceptance speech, he never discredit Quinta's hardwork. It's not as malicious as what Ye did.
I'm glad Jimmy apologized. It was disrespectful and he should have gotten up as soon as Quinta came up to accept her Emmy. His apology does seem sincere though.
Agreed. He definitely should have apologized because he was indeed wrong. He should have gotten up immediately. He also didn’t get up to congratulate her either. But I do believe his apology is sincere and am glad he took the time to do so publicly.
When I heard she would be on I withheld opinion on his (terrible) behavior at Emmys. He is a GOOD MAN. We all know he wouldn’t purposely hurt anyone. Two good adults here. She is amazing & completely deserved Award. Love her show!
Jimmy's apology was perfect I love he corrected his "if" his intent is neither here nor there he recognized his bit wasn't funny, it ran too long it ruined a historic moment and could have ruined her night glad it didn't prime example of a good apology 😊
Here is the thing...Quinta is fabulous and deserving of it all and more, Jimmy is truly kindhearted and meant absolutely no malice or evil intent. The joke was not funny. People move on. Jimmy has supported Quinta from the beginning and probably really encouraged her and ABC to help make it the hit that it is. This world is so negative and wants to have people at odds and in strife. Knowing Jimmy he prolly felt super bad about it. Quinta is a class act and is wise beyond her years and Jimmy is like the big brother who goofs off but would protect you till the end of the earth....
@@dandychiggins6802 What do you want an on air suicide??? He used his platform to apologize and bring her into the public eve all the while saying he was the problem.
Lmao at all the keyboard warriors who've been pitting these two against each other all day as if they're archenemies only to see this interview drop tonight. 😂 Bless Ms. Brunson for having a great sense of humor and the talent that brought home that Emmy. 👏🏼
@@parkourmaster4526 even though this wasn’t most likely Jimmy’s intent, basically a lot of people feel as though this is another example of a Black person accomplishing something and a white person stealing the moment and making it about themselves.
When I was watching her speech I didn’t really notice jimmy but seeing the full picture was really BAD! He was IN HER WAY and taking up all her space! While he seemingly had no malicious intent he still unfortunately overshadowed her special moment and was an obstacle in her path. Considering the politics of it all, this felt to many a metaphor! (Since celebrities often spark wider conversation about social and political issues) Glad he apologised and luckily for him Quinta was extremely gracious and kind!
She really is ADORABLE 😍...and she is absolutely grateful, and I think she understands that it only made things better, as for Jimmy.... 😆😆😆 Don't stop 👍
I thought that was her. Nice. Good to see Buzzfeed didn't ruin her chances at success by making her do "Top 10 Disney Princesses as bowls of water" articles ad infimum.
1. I LOVE her eyeshadow. Great makeup team. 2. I would love to know what research Quinta did before she wrote the show. It’s so stunningly accurate in every sense. I love it.
I love this! Jimmy's not a mean comedian, simply made a misstep, and apologized sincerely. Quinta's amazing, beautiful, talented, and gracious. She knows he meant no harm, and I'm glad she enjoyed her night, no matter what!
Dreams actually come true. She’s the living example of that. I was so proud of her, I grew up watching her on the buzzfeed videos and look at her now! Such a talented beautiful young woman!
People need something to be outraged over. I think they have a need to say; Hey look at that idiot (Jimmy, in this case), I would never do that, because I'm a better person. It's become exhausting..
It’s amazing how people are easily offended about things that didn’t happen to them. Clearly she wasn’t bothered. She was happy about winning. And that was definitely more important.
It's so insane. People get offended on another person's behalf, demand apologies, then they don't forgive the person when they apologize most of the time anyways. They are just perpetually angry people.
How refreshing to see an apology offered and accepted with such easy grace on both sides. Now, everybody who ISN'T Quinta or Jimmy can drop the subject and go away.
I promise you sometimes people are just looking for a reason to be upset about something. This is what adults do, address something, apologize if necessary and move on.
She’s awesome, Jimmy is terrific. I thought it was funny but seeing the photos / hearing how mad people were, I could understand but it was wild how mad people got. It was a joke that just didn’t hit… oops… oh well, and everyone hurt by it can be hurt for some odd reason as he manned up and apologized directly to the person affected 🔥🔥🔥 Jimmy, thanks for representing LA so well
