I put it before distortion and it sounds fine to me. Generally pitch shifters require the cleanest signals to track properly so if you played things like power chords, double stops, or octaves you'd notice the difference. If you are only using the pedal to harmonize single note leads then maybe the utility of putting it early in the chain is irrelevant.

@@waratthewarfield effects before or after a distortion pedal. If you put distortion after effects like reverb, it will distort the reverb. On the other hand having the distortion before, the reverb sounds much clearer and reverbs the distortion instead.

finally an harmonizer with distortion, thank you! tracking is good as you said and as we can hear...but how perfect tuned the guitar has to be for it to track that well? since I have a Boss hr2 that is very picky and doesn't work well if my guitar is even 3% out of tune...

You're welcome! I haven't noticed any significant tuning issues or tracking problems, but I would say that the intonation and tuning of the guitar is always going to be an important factor. I've never used the Boss HR2 so can't really comment on that, sorry. :)

I tune to 430 not 440. Are these things gonna be a problem for my tuning preference?

@@kingpants8764 I *believe* the relevant part is the interval pattern, not so much the original pitch. This should work with atonal instruments as well as odd tunings. Im speaking from experience with a different harmonized pedal but i think they are fairly similar in functionality…

These aren’t passable in mono. But in stereo with two amps, the wet signal goes into a different amp entirely, and it does not sound digital at all. Idk why it sounds so much better in stereo. But you can also add random amounts of delay, and bring the mash functions bends down to just barely, it can sound VERY human. But again, I’m full stereo it’s much much better. And that goes with all their full stereo TonePrint pedals. All of them are ok at best in mono, but punch into Strymon territory in full stereo.

Man am I ever glad that you made this video...absolutely perfect. Big question though if you or anybody else could please help. It looks like you put your Quintessence after the noise gate and it obviously sounds amazing. Is placing it after the gate instead of before a suggestion? I've got a gate but no Quintessence yet and was curious about whether it should go last after my gate or right before it. Thanks so much man...GREAT video!

Thanks for your comment dude, really glad you found the video helpful. So as a rule of thumb I always go straight into the noise gate before anything else, but I guess different people do different things. Also, this was just through a practice amp but if you have an amp with an FX loop I strongly suggest that you run the Quintessence and other 'wet' effects pedals through the FX loop, but put your noise gate in the front of the chain between your guitar and the amp. So the signal chain for me would typically go guitar ---> noise gate ----> tuner ----> amp. And then effects pedals running out the FX loop send and return on the back of the amp. Hope that this helps!

You need to get it connected to a computer (start the app, turn the knob to a Toneprint setting 1, 2 or 3, that’s the way the pedal knows your engaging it). Then you can turn off the MASH function so the on/off switch works normally. If you’re not going to use the tone bend function, I really recommend switching it off (so you don’t change the pitch by accident when you’re using it). Also, as been said before, using it in stereo with two amps is when the pedal really comes to life..

Hey, can this pedal still be used without an effects loop, or do I have to buy a new amp? I have a Boss Harmonist and can't use it without the pedal sounding muddy.

In this video I am going straight into the front of the amp, not through an FX loop. So, it should be possible.

alright fuck it you have me sold. i want to play a general 70s to modern harder rock, a wide range yes but my band is forming out sound and i fucking love the sound of this for solos, even some chords at times

I play tuned too 430 not 440. With this pedal will it track at 430 or will it bounce the wet effect around to try and find the note? Thanks to anyone that can clarify this for me!

I have never tried that. In fact, I have never attempted to tune my guitar to 430Hz (or 432Hz?) so I would need to do that first. Do you need a specific type of guitar tuner for that? Once I've figured out that bit then I will happily try the pedal and see what happens.

@@Dethonatortv really!? You'd do that!? Thanks man. I have a Paterson Strobe Tuner that you can adjust to 430. I have a snark head stock Tuner that can do it too. My old boss tu3 wasn't able to though. Metal doesn't sound as abrasive to my ears at least at that Tuning. And I also write stuff like AMERICAN FOOTBALL but I can't sing to pitch so I have to drop it to 430 to sound right. I know, everyone is gonna say get better or take lessons but I've grown fond of the pitch. Thank you so much if you get a chance to try that out for me brotha!

Hi Andrew, yes it does. This will depend on where you put it in the chain, but I've never had any issues. Especially if you run it in an effects loop. If running in a chain in front of the amp then I would put it before the delay and reverb.

it is perfect for this use, just turn the actual effect lower in the mix and it wont feel so unnatural, but less is more

When i play it woth gain, there are a lot of artifacts happening. Like, the difference frequency of the original note and the harmony note is very prominent and makes it unplayable with any gain engaged. How does it work for you, since you obviously don't have the problem?

Hi Hannes. Sorry to hear you're having difficulty, and I'm sorry for my late reply. I think this must be something to do with where you place it in the chain. Ideally, it needs to go through an FX Loop. Is this an option for your?
