Quintessence Saxophone Quintet plays the 1st part of Vivaldi's Summer from the Four Seasons. We play the whole Four Seasons and our own 5th season. Hope you enjoy it. This DVD can be requested directly from our website (only for promotional use).

I have never heard a saxophone quintet before. This kind of blew my mind. It was great! Two years ago, I started to learn soprano saxophone at age 61. This has given me inspiration. Thanks!

@mattwins34 Yes. You can actually see when he goes for that kind of playing that his lips and jaw jerk forward a tad. It adds a bit of flair to the way you play your notes and you will notice in Jazz, Alto players will constantly go to that kind of movement for that extra spark to their solos.

Hi I'm a bari sax player in a quintet at my school. I was wondering what tips you guys had for us. We play Bill Holcombe's works for sax quintet. It's fairly easy, but we have a hard time with some of the songs because of our experience level. Thanks!

@mattwins34 it's more airway & airflow control than it is in your mouth. Once you get really good, most stuff should be done from the throat, not that jaw, Only scoops and a few other tricks are in the jaw.

To the composer or arranger of this ensemble... Are the alto sax player's solos in the jazz section improvised or written? And would there be a way to get this sheet music, by purchase I imagine?

Hi! All the arrangements we play are arranged by Uli, the Soprano player. You can purchase the pieces over our website- at the moment you can place a request and I will get back to you. The pieces will all eventually be in the shop. The solo parts are all improvised... but that gives you a good opportunity to do some transcribing:-) Thanks for your interest, Anatole

yes, there is a solo soprano and a sax quartet consisting of sop., alt., ten., bari. Both members play Yanagisawa bent sopranos.

You're rigth, I think it comes from one of the two sopranos (or both of them). This instrument is easily out of tune

Ya, those curved sopranos are killer on intonation. Straight sopranos are less pitchy.

Joe Schmo sure blame the guy for a sound engineer mistake. its an allegro not a lullaby, I think they did a superb job on the interpretation and the arrangement especially.
