Both the male and female matches in Quintet are way more exciting than the IBJJF and non-team event matches. So much more fun - this is the new horizon in the sport.
Sara McMann got robbed. Pressure against closed guard is not stalling. You can't really sub until you open the guard, maybe sit back for a leg. That top pressure vs an amazing guard player is what we're here for. The last match was sick, but again they gave position for a stall call against a closed guard. Great format but a few bugs to work out. Quintet has become my favorite event to watch.
If anything, shouldnt the stalling (if there is a stalling call) be on the one holding the guard closed? If you arent attacking from closed guard, thats basically all you're doing.
Hasn't anyone seen Pride? Everybody so surprised with the announcer. I'm not sure if the same woman but the crazy Pride lady was a special treat. Brings back memories.
Man it’s always awesome watching 10th planet and what Eddie can do coaching these hard workers I can guarantee you that Grace Gundrum will be the best at this sport by the time she is 20 she’s only 16 and killing it I can tell by how technical she is already and when she gets some weight added on she will be unstoppable mark my words!!!!!
I know, right? I mean, who's watching an all-women's Quintet anyways? I'm willing to guess like 90% grapplers. Nobody on here is asking for more stand-ups. Everyone is asking for less.
@@Mr.LightMode i was reading this like "who the fuck would the 10% non-grapplers even be?" then remembered that that technically i train "stand up martial arts" still. if theyre gonna reset them, they should be reset in the same position elsewhere on the mats, or start from a neutral position, not be handing out free rear naked chokes...
He was definitely jumping the gun on some occasions... Also didn't agree with some of the single penalties; letting someone start in that side position is nearly a free win.
They're trying to "popularize" BJJ to a television audience. It's hard to say if this is the right way to do so, but clearly the more traditional approaches to BJJ events didn't captivate much of an audience outside of the sport. It seems they feel Quintet will have a better chance of "blowing up" if they can figure out how to make it more exciting and/or captivating to outsiders. I might not agree with every new criteria they attempt but I definitely understand what they're trying to do and why.
if you guys are looking for your standard BJJ ruleset, you've got a myriad of promotions to choose from. Quintet is something different. Fast action is prioritized and stalling is penalized.
This is what I love about Japanese, they don't use home advantage to determine the winner unlike Australia and Brazil. Edit: watching this again made me realize they favored Rikako Yuasa heavily.
Liz tore that ankle to shreds at the last second !that Japanese girl was so tough nd my God grace is gonna be a killer world champion in a couple of years that girl was the 4 times world champion nd she more than held her own
A lot of people have mixed opinions about the refs being so quick to issue warnings and reset, but frankly I like it. Like the commentators said, this is a spectator sport, and watching a match grind to a slow halt because two gassed out people won't commit to a submission.
She tapped after the bell because she wanted her to stop with the toe hole since the match was over at that point. It wasnt close, it was her tapping an arm saying the round is over now so you can stop.
How Gundrum didn't win is a case for unsolved mysteries. She had the most viable submission threats, Aono basically did fuck all with top position for the duration.
Very impressive display of skills from all of these ladies. I don't know about that ref stopping matches twice and putting Yuasa in a dominate position. What's up with that? Yamamoto knew that was BS. Also, totally love Grace Gundrum! Held her own against an older 4 (or was it five) time champion. I imagine that the champ was saying in her mind, "I better beat her now before she gets any older."
