Loved watching this video. I worked on the computer systems when the mine was being built from 1982 thru to the end of 1984. The first coal shipment was December 1983, which was a bit of a scramble to meet the deadline. My memory of the mine was that it was flat up by the Eagles' Nest - very different from this video from the mid 90's. There was a huge Maintenance building and warehouse up the mountain maybe 100 metres lower than the Eagles' Nest - no sign of it in the video, must have been taken down? The Wabco Haulpak trucks were 170s when it first opened - I guess they got bigger as they were replaced. When I started they were trying to do all the excavating with the Demags - there was a big scramble to get the P&H shovels in in order to handle the load.

I worked there as a running repair electrician from 1990 to 1995... most interesting job I ever had. Thanks for the memories.

Pretty cool video, lived In TR from the mid 80’s until 1997, my dad Dave was a heavy duty mechanic at Quintette right up until the day the mine shut down. Think I’m gonna have to take the qaud up the old hill for a tour. Next time I make it back there.

My dad, David, was an operator until they shut down. EDIT: Sorry, maybe not until they shut down... I think we had to move...

I worked with your dad for a year or so. I was an HD Mechanic apprentice and worked alongside him a fair bit. Probably around 1991

When was this? My dad worked there in the 1980's. I would have been born in Tumbler Ridge, but with no hospital, my dad had to drive Mum all the way to Dawson Creek. And Doug sounds like AvE from RU-vid here.

I don't know the exact date, but it could have been late 80's early 90's

I saw an article on how they’re restarting the mine, or bringing it back, is this true?

Blizzards could come even in July at that elevation... minus 80 and 120mph winds in the winter sometimes.

I was hired at Tumbler in june, 1984. It closed in 2000. Sort of a dirty place to work.
