Great to see another epispde in this series! As someone who appreciates unintentional heritage units, I actually like the nice deliberate touches of predecessor railroads on recently repainted engines, namely UP 3994 and BN 161.

I'm surprised how I've actually modeled several of these over the years. CP was a goldmine for weird, 'whatever, it'll be fine' paint jobs back in the '90s.

When the locomotive with the CP logo handrawn on the middle of the long hood, i was surprised the NS ex HLCX SD40-2s before the repaint into the NS livery weren't included. Specifically the one at 3:24

445 was one of a few CSX AC44s sold to CP for parts. By the time the picture of it with CP engine was on it, it was being moved dead in tow. It has since been scrapped as it was only used for parts

That snoot nose UP SD40-2 was apparently painted in an early test scheme for the Mopac merger. Several units were painted in random variants of the "Armor Yellow" scheme as a nod to how the SP and SCL painted locomotives owned by subsidiary railroads into variants of their existing schemes to avoid confusion between one another. Many early post-Mopac merger units were painted into the "Canary" variant of the UP scheme with "Missouri Pacific" on the sides of the long-hood as seen on the C36-7s, SD50s, and GP50s ordered by the Mopac post-merger.

Reminds me of the early 2000s when railroads here in Brazil recieved hundreds of second hand GEs, while a lot of them got repainted some of them barely got patched (patched units only got the OG reporting marks painted over and the nose patched with the BF logo) so of them are still patched to this day 20 years later. More than one ex-BN C30-7 still has its OG number in 2023, one I remember is BN 5099. There was also a Yellow bonnet ATSF unit which I don't remember the number.

If you do a part 3, OHCR 3185 is worth a mention. Ohio central bought the unit from CSX and had the CSX painted out several years ago, but the paint has faded out and the CSX is showing back through. I also believe this unit has been or will be scrapped soon due to the EPA regulations saying the B-23-7S locomotives put out too much pollutants.

I’d imagine if UP 7088 is in a part 3 of this. I saw it in person back on May 30th, 2023. 7088 has a unique font on its number boards, and the nose was repainted with UP’s shield logo.

If there’s one thing I have learned from my mentor is that railroads especially short lines do not care to paint freight cars and some times even locomotives.

I assume 445 was bought by CP, as it's an AC4400CW and they like rebuilding those, and they have multiple other frankenlocos. Union Pacific 3391 was a prototype paintjob for cheap livery testing for the recent acquirement of ex-MoPac units.

little story on UP 3994, apparently a former SP employee was disgruntled at a supervisor so in turn he ended his career with UP by finding an ex SP locomotive and giving it the nose job.

The last locomotive has been through BN, BNSF, and NS, and has had 2 renumberings, While in BNSF it was renumbered to 8106, then on NS, renumbered to 6813.

CSX 940 is a heritage unit

That CP m630 that had the misplaced multimark wasn't CP's fault, it was the Montreal Locomotive works that is at fault for it
