This video is to share my story about why I quit Big Law. It's the most vulnerable video I've ever posted, and I've been reluctant to post this for an entire year, but wanted to finally share with you the REAL reason why money matters.

Although, sometimes we buy things to save hours, too. I got a new mower and it's far more efficient than the one I got for free. The higher end paint and the 15 dollar Wooster cutting brushes help speed things up for me, too. Higher quality tools get jobs done faster.

We read news in the media that doom and gloom is coming and we just accept it, doom and gloom doesn’t always have to be coming, I’ve read numerous success stories of people that are pulling off tremendous gains of up to $250K within weeks in this crazy market and I just want to learn how to achieve such figures.

Since the crash, I've been in the red. I’m playing the long term game, so I'm not too worried but Jim Cramer mentioned there are still a lot of great opportunities, though stocks has been down a lot. I also heard news of a guy that made $250k from about $110k since the crash and I would really look to know how to go about this.

I worked for 2 Big 5 accountancy companies 20+ years ago as a tax lawyer. In short: horrible experience! 3 out of 5 of my room mates were burned out or were on medical leave and I remember saying goodbye to someone leaving the company almost on a weekly basis. Toxic, horrible work environment. But when you are young (20's/ 30's) you think that you have to "sell" yourself to get ahead, which is not true at all. Currently, I have my own small law firm. I help people, and I am appreciated. And I make enough money to buy my first home.

You said it perfectly :as a lawyer who has been lucky enough to work laterally from the profession I can so appreciate this lady's sentiments. Lawyers tragically are slaves not to money but to status. Just tell any fellow lawyer 'if I had a chance to work for double the. Money as a bin man I would happily do so and watch their face'. I deploy this statement and instantly discover so much. The longer one stays in lawyer the more disappointed and regretful kindred spirits one meets.

.when I decided to go to college I decided to stay local for my grandparents (they raised me). I passed on Berkeley because it was too far from me. I was a low income student and my grandparents didn’t speak english. On my second year of college grandma had a heart attack and we managed to help her. She had a slip next year and broke her hip and I was able to help her there as well. I took a job as a teacher for stability and soon after my grandpa had a stroke. I was able to help him as well. I will never regret staying close to them because it bought me more time with them. At the end of the day, no matter how much I was able to help them, it pales in comparison to the life they gave me. I went to medical school in my 30's, didn't come from a well off background, and worked extremely hard to become a doctor because I wanted to help people. I graduated during the pandemic, and believe it or not I found myself feeling morally drained and that clear vision of helping people in the way I envisioned became so much murkier. Not really you shouldn't fear anything since you should act so you don't leave regrets and failure is just a process to success no one can achieve success without failures along the way but no one talks about the failures usually only the achievements and success. That is why having your own job is the best, since working for someone means they own you for that amount of time to do a certain task. In reality we haven't changed from the slave system, it is a system with make up so people can't tell they are just slaves to it.

This description of Biglaw is absolutely uncanny. It is not only the norm that you will sacrifice your own health and relationships in order to clock as many billables as possible, it is the expectation. There is no such thing as a family emergency, a holiday, a vacation, or a weekend. There are certainly outliers who are willing to make those sacrifices or manage to end up on a unicorn team, but I have yet to meet a lawyer who regretted quitting their Biglaw job. Best night of sleep I ever got was right after I put in my two weeks' notice. Great work, Erika!

Originally came across this video earlier in the year when I (Em) was thinking about when I should quit my Big Law job. I found it extremely reassuring to hear you talk about issues like complacency and the pressure of doing what society wants you to do, all of which had been weighing on my mind. But what resonated with me the most was hearing you talk about fearing regret more than fearing failure - when you said that, I think that was the first time I consciously realized that I also felt that way. It helped give me the courage to finally quit my Big Law job to pursue something I'm more passionate about, and now that I'm out, I had to come back and comment to say thank you for sharing your story!!

These are very valuable info for anybody who wants to get rich. Unfortunately, most people who will watch this video will not really be able to apply the principles. We may not want to admit, but as Warren Buffett once said, investing is like any other profession-- it requires a certain level of expertise. No surprise that some people are losing a lot of money in the bear market, while others are making hundreds of thousands in profit. I just don't know how they do it. I have about $109k now to put in the market.

Understanding personal finances and investing will most likely lead to greater financial independence. By being knowledgeable about money and investing, individuals can make informed decisions about how to save, spend, and invest their money. I know someone who made over $350k in this recession influenced market, but to the best of my knowledge, it was through a financial advisor.
@tradekings5433
@tradekings5433 11 месяцев назад
Yeah, financial advisors could make a lot of difference, particularly in a market such as this. Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over 250k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are a lot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look. I have been using an FA since 2019, and I return at least $121k ROI, and this does not include capital gain.

Thanks so much for sharing your story. It reminds me of my experience in law firm life. I, too, came out of law school making six figures at 26 and it was a big accomplishment considering that my parents, who were not college educated, immigrated to this country with three young children and several thousand dollars in their pockets. My moment came in year 4 when a partner came into my office, slammed the door, and proceeded to yell at me, dropping f-bombs because of a mistake I made. I wished I was brave enough to tell him that they didn't pay me enough for him to talk to me that way. But shortly thereafter, I decided firm life was no longer for me and I gave notice without another job lined up. A few days before I was supposed to leave, that partner asked me where I was going and when I said "nowhere," he asked if I would stay longer because it was very busy. I wish I could have captured the look on his face when I said "no."

They keyword is "sometimes". There are no guarantees that simply going for it will lead to success. Afterall, there are many unsuccessful businesses. However, if you think you can fly, then there is a possibility that you can, so you owe it to yourself to at least try. If you fail, pat yourself on the back and acknowledge the fact that you got further than most people, because most people aren't willing to try due to the fear of failure.

Loved the video. Glad you took a stand and have good priorities. My experience is in healthcare and I would say time is not the most valuable resource. Being in “good health” is our most valuable resource. Many people are living with chronic illnesses like obesity and diabetes and still live “relatively” long lives but are miserable. I love watching RU-vid videos with people who lose a lot of unhealthy weight and say things like, “I didn’t know life could feel this good” and “I’m not out of breath after climbing a flight of stairs”. Those videos help reinforce the concept of (quality of life years). Sadly, too many people don’t understand or were next taught this and are now a slave in their own bodies. Glad you got out of that rest race and are focusing on truly helping others in a more personal level.

This is an important offering. You traded an impressive paycheck for a life of purpose and meaning. I think that your grandfather would be proud that you have the courage to live your values. Thanks for your inspiring message.

Hi Erica, you really defined so well what regret is. I also feel that I am in same situation and currently building the strength to just walk out and spend time with my kid and family. You have been amazing and inspiring. Big thanks to you. ❤️
