@dingus644No, there's legitimate problem being caused by government mismanagement. The US such as inflation. And ridiculously high tax rates for people who barely can't afford to straight by. Along with lack of regulation on Predatory practices for crediting. Guess what? And sometimes life doesn't just revolve around your bad choices. But being born in the wrong place at the wrong time, with limited opportunity to make choices..

@@allpraisewebb1142 Yeah but it's not really like that... All those batteries, those solar panels, the plumbing, the wiring, the appliances - ALL that stuff will need to be repaired, need to be replaced. It's a constant conveyor belt of sh*t that you need to spend money on. Is it cheaper than paying for the city (or county) to deliver water to your house and maintain the lines, etc.? Maybe? But honestly it's not cut-and-dry at all. And definitely not "no bills". Depends if you're willing to wear the equivalent of a shirt with 50x patched holes / sewing interventions every single day or if you prefer to have a few shirts and you replace them after they get ripped more than a couple times. And then if you choose the shirt with 50x patched holes in it, you're choosing to devote a huge amount of your time and energy towards fixing and jerry rigging everything. If you think it's bad in the US check out the UK, you don't even fully own a property even if you buy it outright or build it yourself, you need planning permission from a council of people that decide if you are allowed to build something or not in your own property with your own money and they also charge you for asking them for permission, it's greed
That's basically what this post is saying...seems everywhere there are restrictions and homeowners associations telling people what they can and can't do with something they outright own. And you are correct have to pay them fees and ask permission to paint your white house white...it's ridiculous how much power government organizations have over all of us. Whoever pays the taxes on the property should be the one making the decisions.
Planning and zoning varies by the county and whether you are within the limits of a town. Where I live, outside of town the main thing the county regulates is a building permit (you need to submit plans and a map, fee is based on square footage), sewage disposal, and property taxes. This guy has cut way back on his bills, but he'll still have property taxes, insurance, and maintenance for his real estate. And food, clothing, transportation, health care, insurance, entertainment, etc for himself. But cutting out mortgage and utilities is a wonderful savings.

It sounds nice to not have bills. But he has to drink and shower with rain water from his dirty roof, and what if there's a drought? I doubt he has enough electricity to run everything you would in a normal average house. Especially if there's a cloudy day. No internet/wifi or cell service. Not sure if he has the power for AC or heat, let alone any form of entertainment like a game console or TV for longer than short periods of time (and what else is there to do for fun out there). He lives alone in the middle of nowhere with no car so he's stuck there (If he does have a car, that's at least a bill for car insurance if his car's paid off). He has to hand wash and air dry his clothes. There are so many drawbacks, but we just hear "no bills" and automatically think he's living the dream life. I imagine he's bored and lonely all the time, but who knows, maybe he likes it. The average person from a developed country would likely not.

I think a lot of people grew up in the McMansion era of the 1980s and 1990s and have realized that a lot of the space and rooms in these homes went unused, and many have come to realize that a smaller house works just fine and is cheaper on taxes, utilities, and upkeep.

It feels tempting because people do like the idea of not being TIED DOWN TO THE GOVERNMENT in every single way imaginable. We all understand that stuff and facilities cost money to operate, but for a lot of people, the daily struggle of going to work only to be able to afford the basics to survive with a few extras and NOT OWNING anything for real, gets really tiresome. To some, it almost feels like slavery.
So there's no legal way to live outside of the system, as even if you're completely self sufficient, there's still property taxes. No way to escape modern feudalism/serfdom!

$8000 for a livable set up, owing nothing to anyone. Imagine how much we could do with a billion dollars. Or 20 billion dollars. Or 200 Billion. Or a trillion. You can grow food, you know that right? You can also shit in the woods and wash with water. Who needs a vehicle when you don't have to go anywhere? Why would someone who doesn't need a vehicle need car insurance? Why would you pay to talk to people who are looking to mooch off of you?
@jamesbrincefield9879 I mean that's only the case because of the "by myself" part. But living off the grid doesn't require living by oneself so that point is irrelevant.

I'm a 100% service connected permanent and total disabled Iraq/Gulf vet, where I live my property taxes are exempt. In 2013 I bought 13 acres of woodland, built my shop using the trees I cleared, my house from shipping containers, its quite comfy. Paid off my land mortgage and the building loan in February 2021. If I want to, I can make the IRS pay me, because I make fuel ethanol for my vehicles from cattails. There is a tax credit for every gallon produced, but since I don't pay income tax, I don't bother with it. Started doing the fuel project because I am not allowed to earn more than congress says we vets are worth. Needed to save money when gasoline was $5 a gallon in 2007. Making fuel produces more food, not less. Rather than throwing everything away that is left over, you use it. This year I am rebuilding my system so I can produce over 1000 gallons a year. I think the tax credit is 45 cents a gallon, and around here road/gas tax is only on fuel SOLD, not produced or used. I am not selling it, I am using it.. so no taxes. It costs me less than 40 cents to make a gallon of fuel from cattails. I have grid electricity and DSL internet, other than that I am off grid. I'm about to be 40 and just bought my very first home 2 years ago. Fortunately I got in right before the interest rates skyrocketed so my interest is only 2.9% and I got super super lucky. I would have never done it either but my daughter's godmother is a real estate agent and made me realize that I would just be throwing the same amount of money away paying rent when I could just save up for a small down payment and get my own place. My down payment was only $12,000, with the loan I got my credit score only had to be like 620, sort of like a first time home buyers loan but not exactly what it is, and my total payments with mortgage, property taxes, and homeowners insurance is only $2,000 a month. It's a duplex on almost a full acre of land so I have a massive backyard. There's also a very nicely built shed and a cedar sauna in the yard. Also, since it's a duplex, I rent the bottom unit out for 1600 dollars a month so that pays for almost my entire mortgage. I still work two jobs but that's mainly because I like to have extra money and this way I can also afford to give my tenants free utilities. We are on well water so the only bills I have are a small electric bill, natural gas, and the trash bill. I never ever thought I would be able to afford a home in my lifetime but it can be done. All I had to do was work my butt off for 2 years and save save save save save and get my credit up just enough to get that loan. I actually qualified for the bigger loan as well because it's a duplex so they were anticipating me getting the rental income. If I would have just purchased a regular single family home, my loan would have been almost $100,000 less.

Actually it's beacuse it can significantly reduce the amount of groundwater replenishment and the volume of water flowing downstream in nearby rivers, thereby causing water shortages somewhere else. Usually it's the city downstream that preassures the cities upstream to collect less water. It doesn't usually make the news but regional governments, farmers, energy companies etc are beefing with eachother all the time about water usage, and if every city could collect and use as much water as they wanted there would be many cities and agricultural communities downstream that would completely collapse.
@@Regarded69 lol bull SHIT! Do you have any idea the volume of water that falls? You have no sense of scale. Collecting a couple 55gal drums worth every time it rains is not going to dry up the f-ing rivers FFS. You people, I swear.
@Kuningaz_Kvltist 😆 well that's not a fact but an excuse. So actually I don't agree. Rain falls everywhere, and a person collecting some for personal use is not causing shortages to anything. Especially when compared to water & beverage corporations that pump fresh water out of fresh water lakes or underground aquifers just to sell it back to us in plastic bottles.
@Kuningaz_Kvltist not trying to be rude, but if people living off the grid want to collect what GOD provides for themselves, it doesn't create water shortages. In densely populated areas covered in roads etcetera, it flows into drainage systems that contaminate rain water by mixing it with trash of all sorts and then opening up into the water. Because at the end of the day, Big corporations are to blame for many of the world's problems. They're the ones who create them, and also the ones who police us and buy their way out of them. So they don't do much to solve the world's problems, but they damn sure do a lot to create them. Just in 2022, how many explosive toxic train derailments into the water and atmosphere happened? How about forrest fires? Supposed fire storms like in Maui? This is way bigger than people think. That's why some want to just live off the grind. But corporations are ruining our environment and then selling us back the purified versions of it.

Have a huge garden and possibly hobby farm a bit to make some extra cash, donating the leftovers to food banks or other charities. Just living free off the land and being at peace with the mountains and rivers here. I could have accomplished this goal 20years ago very easily, but I was too young then. Now that I’m in my mid 30’s I’m still hopeful that something will come along that I can slowly build upon… but it’s not looking great. Hard to believe that a $30/hr job with tons of overtime still makes you live paycheck to paycheck these days. 😢 God speed to you! I’m so glad you were able to jump on that land opportunity after high school when you did. I hope to find an opportunity similar to that someday and do the same. Thank you for sharing your story
@@AL4N. In America the average income is 45 50 grand per year. He seems like he’s happy with what he has. Having stuff isn’t what life is all about. When you die it’s just left for your family to fight over anyways. It’s meaningless.
@@AL4N.Not sure what your logic is there.... maybe he only has that because that's all he wants, and he spent hundreds of thousands traveling the world, or didn't have to work his life away and never see his family. You just got tricked into thinking success means material things... keep working your life away, your boss will thank you for his 3rd Mercedes and vacation home. 😂😂
Toronto is planning on putting in a rain tax where you have to pay x amount per square foot of land that isn't grass on your property every time it rains. Governments will stop at nothing and come up with the most ridiculous laws just to fk people over.
Freedom is one of the greatest feelings that exists. Up there w love, joy, bliss. Ultimately, we each define what that word means to us. To me total independence, like this is freedom.
@@env0xThat’s wild. But if it’s a must for work, there’s Starlink, T-Mobile and Verizon 5G, Viasat and by the end of 2024, Kuiper by Amazon. So it’s not an issue.
I live in a 16x32 lofted barn. I insulated it and put 1x6 pine boards on the walls. The ceiling is corrugated tin. I've got a wood burning heater. Love mine. Proud for you Sir.
We bought a large metal building on eBay for $8000 - 30 ft x 75 ft and 24 feet tall. It is now our home. 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, large kitchen and grand living groom. All the windows and doors we bought 2nd hand. You can go small or large and spend as little or as much as you decide. Buy land.
I've been meticulously planning something very similar to this myself for the past 4-6 years, not because it takes that long to plan it, but because I turn 18 this year, I have detailed plans of all the electricity needed, how much it would cost to have the solar panels installed, how much the land I'm going to buy would cost, how much it would cost to get all the materials for the house, and how much time it would take for me to build it myself vs hiring a company to build it for me etc etc, I'm genuinely so excited cause this video has showed me that it was actually as realistic as I thought and not completely outlandish like my siblings and parents have been claiming. Thank you man, I really appreciate it.
I suggest no longer talking to them about it. The moment something negative comes out from someone about your plans you are sharing with them is the moment to stop sharing with them. Dream killers. Dont fall for it. That excitement you feel about doing something is a rare thing that not everyone gets to experience so dont take it lightly and dont let go of it and dont let it die out. That feeling is the literal magic that will make it work no matter what. Keep fanning that flame. Then follow that fire, always follow that fire. The people who tell you not to do it and that you will fail and ask you questions like “okay so what are you going to do about xyz or when abc happens?” Ignore! They don’t have that excited feeling about it so they have no idea what they are talking about since what you are doing is not FOR THEM. Its for you. Thats why you feel that way. Anyways sorry for the rant and I hope you hit the ground running the day you turn 18.
That's a great attitude well done I wish you all the very best , doing this will set you up for life , 1 thing to remember never get into debt , ruins lives . Take care bud
Don't let people crush your dreams. If people don't get excited for you you are talking to the wrong people about your dreams. Set your goals and let the haters be part of your motivation and not part of your doubt.
Resisting the masculine urge to run off into the woods on a lunch break and see how long I would survive with just my bare hands and the clothes off my back 🤪
You are not the only one. FOMO over medications one may need, or even a dentist is the only think that keeps many healthy White men from doing just as you say.
