Remember that the whole plan (from the moment they discovered the ship was inbound) was to place a tracker on it and allow it to escape with Leah. That way, they could track it to the Rebel hideout and destroy the rebellion. They had to make a good show for the occupants (and a better one for the audience), but Vader didn't want to catch the crew outright.

What I meant was just referring to him as "Darth", one name only. It almost sounds like he's referring to him by his first name. Or, by calling him Darth, recognizing his title. Might sound better if just called him "Vader". In episode II, Obi Wan referred to count Dooku simply as "Dooku".

george wanted a more cerebral type of sounding vader in ESB; not as much emotion so that his tone in conjunction with his mask make it more difficult for someone to pick up his state at the time.. and also to be more "mysterious" although from an audio standpoint, the dubbing sounds muffled compared to ANH and RoTJ

He sounds to me like he’s finally letting his true feelings out. He knows that the Emperor is bad, but he’s been beat down for over 20 years. He only joined Palpatine to save his wife and failed.
