Just got the radio and discovered that the Power cord connection is the same as my old Yaesu cord. But the manual, leaves a lot to be desired. Thanks for the video, it explained a lot.
Using Menu #0 you really can monitor 4 channels at the same time. It's an issue when you are in a QSO & someone keys up on one of the other frequencies just so you know it will change you over to that channel as it being the Last Heard signal. It's great for just monitoring but not once you are having a QSO.
@@mandytuning I returned mine shortly after I made my comment because the final on UHF FAILED.It did not last very long at all.👎🏻 I replaced it with an ICOM 2730a.👍🎙
When you will receive quad band on all of 4 VFOs, you must setup TMR on 0 to A+B+C+D, and setup menu in 52 TMR-MR OFF.. Than it would be receive on all of VOFs on display, but when you start transmit, it would be TMR automatically OFF.. You must reset the device with power supply, and then it would be next new operational.. Sorry for my english, i am from slovakia.. :D
The DTMF on transmit can be used to access repeater functions if your local repeaters have features like auto patch that require a DTMF string to access
The TMR-MR setting refers to the number of seconds the radio stays on an active channel that is not the primary channel. In your case, it's set to 10. So after 10 seconds the radio will revert to your primary channel (but still listen to the others in the background).
Thanks for the in-depth look at the menu. I wonder if some of the pretty obscure names/functions are to do with their use in the commercial field? (thinking about the Baofeng gear and the menu system functions to do with security use etc.?) but was also surprised at how many are pretty intuitive :-) It didn't seem like there was an option to change the delay for the menu option, but my own experience with that is that sometimes you wish for the delay to be longer and then other times, you are want the delay shorter so that you can get to the previous display. Looking forward to hearing your views on the performance of the radio.... it certainly looks a tasty little unit. Thankyou
I was thinking the same to be honest mate. The menu thing is a bit annoying but not the end of the world. Stay tuned for more on this one Sam, cheers :)
I got mine used at a recent rally. It isn't a bad radio at all for the price. I would not have wished to set it up using the internal menus. Far easier to use the Chirp software. The VFO encoder on the right hand side is of poor quality. Often skips channels. Using the microphone buttons bypasses that issue. Good reports of sound quality. Noticeable delay between keying up and signal actually coming out of the radio. The extension speaker socket doesn't work. According to the manual, you need to use a four way 3.5mm plug - I did, and that didn't work. The received audio isn't that bad though. Bottom line, I'm perfectly happy with the quirks given the price.
Just bought this for a small camper van I have just bought, not taken it out of the box yet. Great simple explanation and offers a much better understanding of the user manual. Many thanks...... have you done a update yet ? Cheers.
Lewis thanks for the walk through....looking forward to more on air tests with the little 8900 if you can get a fee simplex contacts that would be great..Nice to see you doing a CB review great little radios those.
What I'm trying to figure out is if there's a difference between this one and the Btech 25x2. Or if theirs is just a re-stamped QYT being re-sold as a Btech radio. Btech is basically an American reseller that makes it easier for us to do warranty related things. Anyone have info on that? Because the QYT is like $40 cheaper.
I would love to see video on the programming software which QYT provides. I can read and write to/from radio just fine but I am unable to delete a single or multiple row of frequencies. The only thing I can find available in the software for deleting is the "Clear" button which unfortunately clears every row leaving you with a fresh table to start all over. I guess for now I will have to rely on Chirp and hope it doesn't mess anything up. BTW anyone having trouble connecting the radio to a W11 desktop should be aware that the device driver in Device Manager needs to be backdated to Driver Version 3.2.0.0 Driver Date 07/31/2007. This seems to be a common problem.
Love this radio, but one feature is driving me mad and I can't find a solution online. I am monitoring four frequencies at the same time, even when I am on let us say on 145.500 for PTT purposes, if one of the other 3 frequencies becomes active it moves the active channel for PTT purposes to that other frequency away from where I want to be. If I manually return to 145.500 and the other repeater is still active it moves it again there. I want to monitor four frequencies ideally, but I don't want the radio to move the PTT from my chosen frequency. The M+A+B+C+D setting appears to be the one, but I can't figure out what is the correct setting, putting it to OFF just leaves me with a single frequency and no others monitored. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
Any method of adjust the frequency range on VHF/UHF bands?? I has a same model and I can't program these frequencies out of range, so by default it have 144-146 MHz and 430-440 MHz, I want to adjust 134-174 MHz and 400-470 MHz. Can adjust this ranges? Thank you very much for help.
Had two computers with Windows 7 that could not see the programming cable that came with it.Another computer with Windows 8 did see it so we used Chirp to program it.I wasted the better part of Two days trying to figure out why the cable could not be found with my computer & my friends but now that it's programmed it appears to work OK.I am using it as my VHF/UHF Base radio just for FM since I have Two VHF/UHF all mode base radios that I don't use on FM because one is for Satellite Communications & the other is for VHF/UHF SSB only.I paid $90 shipped with a Tree year extended warranty so I will see if it lasts that long. 73 & God Bless.
I had the same issue originally, with Windows 10. It had something to do with the "Prolific" driver in Windows 10. There is a chip in the usb end of the cable. I had come across a post about it. Had to use an older driver. I think it was a Prolific 3.2.0.0 driver for the PL2303.
For the purpose of programming repeaters: I have seen that some repeaters give "DMR" or "DSTR" as their tone. Can you expand on that a bit please? Thanks and 73.
I've had a couple of these for a while, the manual memory programming process is rather cumbersome, otherwise a great little radio. One thing I haven't figured out, is how to see what frequencies are actually programmed into a saved channel.
One Review claims this radio (the 'D' Model) also does 220mhz. Correct? Or just 2m and 440 ? Also, why is the microphone connection crooked, or does it actually plug in on an angle ? Thanks.
I have got one kt-8900D for a week now, the FM radio does not work properly over 104mhz. Volume and on off control feels cheap made. Still testing the radio...
TMR appears to be which of the 4 VFO/MEM 'lines' do you want to be active for main TX-RX and then a combination of the remaining 3 to act like sub bands for RX. What TMR actually stands for... transmit memory? Just a guess. You gotta love the Chinese for their menu abbreviations 🤓 Can't get over the size of it for a dual-bander and price. 80quid on eBay UK. Would suit a compact 'go box' with a smallish 12V battery nicely.
Hello. I bought this radio to use it in my taxi. It works well but I have a question that you might answer. So, as I daid I am a taxi driver. The radio of each taxi cab is set to send a code when speaking(the code is the number of each car, mine is 134). The dispatch can see that code and she can identify each car. Can you tell me what function of the optinons in the menu is? I think it is the PTT-ID but I am not sure....
Hello? Maybe you have tried tx only icon on the signal... If you have how to fix it... All frequency on my radio are all tx only no rx... Maybe you can help...
Lewis could you do a test for me concerning this radio section 51 I think called rpt-m can you see if you can turn on carrier on one frequency I.e 70 cms channel/frequency and see if it will cross band and transmit on 2 metres and visa versa
Mine did too, for a few minutes! Now it just listens on the channel I'm on again. Does this still work for you? I can't imagine what I've done wrong. I tried turning TMR off and back on (M+A+B+C+D) but still only listens on a single channel!
With this radio can you load up chirp and restrict its upper and lower frequency limit so it can only TX on HAM bands even if you type something higher in on the keypad?
Ringway Manchester thanks mate. Reason I asked is I have the QYT KT-8900 and I can’t change the band limits on that so I’m looking for something I can lock to just the HAM band. Thanks mate.
It does get a bit swamped gary, a bit of background noise comes through on vhf in the house but not so much in the car. Further testing to be done mate. Cheers
Very clear explanation. Thank you so much. I have a question about the QYT 7900D. Does anyone know if there is a limit to how many frequencies can be eliminated from the scan function? I have several to eliminate but it seems to only eliminate one from the scan function. So I’m curious if it’s just me or would that be a limit of the 7900D? Thank you so much for this review and May God Bless.
TMR is where you can set the radio to monitor up to 4 frequencies simultaneously. Scroll through the options to set the VFOs you want on multiple standby. Those VFOs will have an antenna symbol and the radio will automatically switch over to any one of them when they receive a signal.
Hallo, cay you tell me please, how I can open a Repeater? I set the 1750 Hz tone, the shift -0,6 MHz on 2 m . I try to start it via Call, but I can't open the Repeater. tnx de Frank DM5KK
Hi Frank, you have to set the input freq to a memory channel, then the output to the same channel afterwards, that way you'll get the split properly. It's a bit of a software bug I think. Have you tried programming software?
I just purchased this radio in Nov. 2021. This video really helps. So...I am using the free, Chirp Software, to program the radio. But, it will not allow access to the settings menu / tab. Which allows access to the Startup & shut down screen Messages, & more! (The QYT software does allow changes via a settings tab, but will not save the file, for some reason?) I am just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with Chirp, or am I doing something wrong?
Did you ever figure out how to expand the range of frequencies. I know this thing can TX on 462 channels. I just can't find the password to put in to expand it. I don't want to have to send this thing back. I want GMRS/ham combo regardless of legality it's about having in case of emergency.
@@strtkempoI just saw that QYT has a youtube channel. It appears that they have a video, with the Password you are searching for, and how to enter it!
I just just bought it online. I read there is a passwordword to make setting. Is the a password already on there is a stick on the readio or what. Also I sen on the manel there is a data port. Where can I find the pin out
Just got my rig, have put a few MEM-CH's in, surprised that when in M(emory) mode, the repeater shift doesn't work but switch to V(FO) mode and the repeater shift does work. Any ideas? G1OFL
I have programmed the output (Rx), the shift (menu 46), the CTCSS, saved to M-02. When in Memory mode the repeater shift doesn't work, when in VFO mode the repeater does work.....
Nobody said that you are an expert. They wouldn't. It's just too obvious that you're not! YOU obviously think you are, setting yourself up to advise people on something about which you frequently concede that "I'm not sure!" If you're not sure, get your act together and make sure that you ARE SURE before launching off into a deception that you know what you are supposed to be talking about! Your childish retort is unworthy of a primary school play ground. I could almost see you sticking out your tongue! La La Lee La La! Yuckhh! Do you really think that I would go and find another of yours, on which to waste my time? After that one? You are just another self-appointed internet Guru. And worse, you don't even stand out amongst those idiots. And believe you me, Baby! I AM sure about that! I won't be coming back here so your anticipated, indignant venom will slip into well-deserved obscurity.
With all due respect, I didn't get the "self proclaimed expert" vibe from him. Instead he took a budget radio with minimal coverage and tried to make sense of it on camera. Many people have had issues with understanding how to make these radios work even with basic function. Instead you came here, made a snarky comment, got a fairly reasonable response from the poster and then went off on a tangent about the response you got and then called him childish as you go off and continue to act childish yourself. I hope whatever has you so aggravated works out and I hope you find a better way to spend your time.
