I'm 57, was raised Christian, but hadn't heard this phrase "Kyrie Eleison" growing up, - but loved the song when it came, too - only to fully realize the depth of it some years later. Mr Mister was among my top 3 favorite bands of the 80s, & I was lucky enough to see them 3 times in concert - twice right at the stage! The lead singer's cousin, John Lang, wrote the lyrics & Richard Page (lead singer) was a bit apprehensive about recording it fearing it'd be too "religious-sounding" ... but John convinced him to put it out there anyway & see what would happen ... I think the song speaks for itself, as you said, as an effective piece of music whether or not one is aware of its underlying message. It's SO positive, SO jubilant, SO celebratory, it glorifies God no matter what! I just love it & still play it at least 1-3 times a week!
Love to see that love for God in you! It made me subscribe! If it wasnt for Jesus in my life i dont think i would be here now! Keep doing your thing and i will be here to watch!
I grew up with this song (born 1981) and without knowing what it really meant as a small child I always knew it was about God, because the feelings it stirs inside my soul is just on another level. Loved your reaction💗 It was my godfathers favorite and he was a devout Christian and loving man. I miss him so much...RIP uncle David🙏
This is my favorite song of all time. I remember hearing it when I was a kid and always wanted to hear it. The chorus is so powerful you can't help but to feel something. It just moves you . On the way to work or just going for a drive I have to listen to it at some point and when I do everyone else listen to it too lol. Window down and blast it so everyone can hear it too. Thank you for sharing your passion with us. You couldn't have picked a better song dude. Love this song
Latin - Kyrie - Lord - Eleison - Have Mercy Lord Have Mercy on the road I must travel! Ruach is Hebrew for Wind, so he mentions: The wind blows hard against this mountainside Across the sea into my soul It reaches into where I cannot hide Setting my feet upon the road So he is being filled with the Holy Spirit. The group got our generation into studying Latin, NT Greek, & Hebrew to understand this song! This was released in 1985 in my Senior Year of High School, and I felt like the future was unfolding with this song, as I would graduate in 1986, and my feet would hit the road for college, and I KNEW Yahweh/God would be with me. Song is as great today as it was 38 years ago! The entire "Welcome To The Real World" album is a treat to listen to!
I love the spiritual quality of this song. Even without assigning an explicit deity, the cry in the night of the traveler in this world... "Help me on my road... help me with this journey..." amazing and important reminders of a humility we can embody to remember our small but important place in the grander Good plan, whatever that be. I also love the idea of this having been a secret Christian song, almost like one of the Christian or other ancient mysteries.
yeah, i love this song. sad a lotta people aren't aware of it and what the title means. but.... that channel intro alone deserves a like and a subs. gave me that 80s sitcom vibe, if that was what you were goin for. brilliant!
I had gone to Catholic school and had the Latin mass for the first half and then English. So the minute I heard this,I knew exactly what it was. I was thrilled that a prayer set to music was so popular. We sang it also. Ty scratches his head like that when he loves something and it gives him chills from his head to his toes. Thanks for your reaction Subscribing.
God is still reaching out to EVERY ONE even today thru you in this video. God Bless you for sharing !!! God's HOPE is still alive and is always a gift !!! Bless YOU !!!
This song always seems to find me when I need it most. I loved it when I first heard it in the 80's, and I love it still. (I'm Jewish but it still speaks to me.) Thank you for posting this, and for sharing your soul. ❤️
The lighting rig and stage (they were a new band) they used for the Vid belonged to Heart which they toured for, and when I saw them both together in '84
I used to listen to Casey Kasem's American Top 40 on radio every week starting sometime in the 80's and he'd mention interesting facts about each song. Also watching MTV, viewers would also see interviews with artists and learn a lot about them and what songs meant. So, I learned the meaning of the song while it was on top of charts. It's a shame that kids don't have that anymore that I know of. But then again, most modern popular songs generally don't have that level of meaning anymore.
I was ADDICTED to American Top 40 and Mr. Kasem's storytelling ("Long Distance Dedication"). I miss that sort of simple life. Thanks for your comment and for watching.
Richard Page actually worked with the queen of Christian pop, Amy Grant on her Unguarded album back in 1984/1985. He ran in those CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) circles when it was just becoming a thing, as a session musician I believe. Also, like U2, I believe they were trying to be "covert" instead overtly spiritual here because it was not a cool thing to do. Amy pretty much shattered that when she crossed over to the pop charts in 1985 with the song Find A Way from Unguarded. She was a trail blazer and took much flack for leaving her CCM box and just became a pop princess in the 90's who happened to be a Christian. She doesn't like being put in boxes, and is a very open and loving soul. She was just honored at the Kennedy Center in DC this weekend along with U2 and Gladys Knight and Tiana Leon. The taping was Sunday night and the airing on CBS is December 28th 8pm!! Can't wait!! :)
Kylie elesion is used in the Catholic Church. I feel you dude!! The 80s were a brief blessed snapshot in time as to how good life could be and was color blind
Hey man I turn 50 in a cpl of weeks. I'm Gaz from Sydney.. luv this song prob heard it 30 yrs ago & a hundred times since! lol.. I just found out now from you brother that it's a church rock song! I never knew! 😅.. But your absolutely right.. we don't need to know that to enjoy the song! Ironically I'm not even the slightest religious.. Now.. does it change anything for me now I know the songs meanings??... Of course not! Because number 1 if a particular songs touches your soul in a certain way then that's what it does. Period!.. And number 2 I'm not anti religious bro. And I definitely don't judge people for whatever they do do or believe in even if I don't. Anyway brother Ive learnt something today is the bottom line. Cheers!! 👍🏽
I have a feeling that your top favorite by this band is the same as mine, Is It Love? Good luck finding a reaction to it. BTW, my husband is moved to tears watching YOU react to others. We love your emotion. You remind me of me. In fact, my husband said he likes watching my reaction to you reacting to reactions! 😂. Now THAT’S a new concept. R5? I hope you’ll soon react to Howard Jones, Go West and/or Thomas Dolby. ✌️
I am in Europe. in those times in France and Mr mister wasn't a Big thing here. For what i Heard i didn't like their sound so i never took time to really listen to It. My english was very poor i used to hace a dictionnary with me to understand all the songs i loved in my ears. great "souvenirs" (btw did someone reacted to Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark?)
You watched MRM react to Diana Ross' Lovechild. He didn't seem to understand the term and therefore the meaning of the song, but that's probably because he's young enough that the weird Lovechild had made a full transition to bastard. By the way, what's the funniest thing on the internet? Your 'reactors' face when you swoop in and steal the glory.
The greek prayer predates the 80s by at least a millennium. How, in the self-proclaimed most christian country on Earth, does one not know kyrie eleison? Have these people never been to church?
I have seen this guy a lot. Hes pretty intelligent as a reviewer. He does other kinds of videos besides songs. Politics etc. So hes good. Not a fan of this song when it came out. Lyrics might meam something strong and personal but the music is too poppy and cheesy. Sounds like Asia. This song was played way too much. Definitely a 1 hit wonder. good reviewer though.
Ah your right. Forgot about the other 2 songs. 1 album wonder. Its interesting how much success they had ro really fall off the earth. Their sound was definitely stuck in the 1980s pop way. For the good and bad of that
I use to follow this guy but sadly had to unfollow when he started going on Trumpist rants. As an atheist I could get past the religious overtones, but when he pulled out the Trumpisim I had to unfollow for my own sanity. It's unfortunate because I liked the guy otherwise.
