I've followed his artwork for years as well and was overjoyed to finally receive the deck. I rounded the corners and have been using it exclusively as my deck for daily readings. Initially, I was surprised by the size and quality, but as I held it and meditated with it, I realized that the artist chose this, and I trust and respect his decision-making. He is a traveler and nomad and it feels like that. I've had incredibly deep readings with it, and it gave my friends beautiful readings last night for our Samhain circle. (Also, I think the prices is absolutely fair for the years of work that he put into this artwork and the hours that he must have spent compiling the deck).
Yes that's a good point. We're not just paying for the physical deck it's the years of creative process and artistry. I've no regrets of supporting the deck and I've had great reading with it, especially for my partner.
No. Not for that price. I've been thinking about how the decks that have cost me the most are actually not the best physical quality. But they are decks I use a lot so I guess I mustn't mind that much. I think the fact that other Creators can manage a high quality physical product just is a bit frustrating.
I knew absolutely nothing about this deck until now when I've seen people receiving them. I'm certainly the minority here but I have a few decks with the unrounded corners (like my Jean Noblet restoration) and I actually rather like them! I like the colours in this deck a lot -- I think it'd look fabulous in a bigger spread -- though I would definitely have to look up symbols too. ❤😊
I also splurged on this one and also followed him hahaha! So expensive and thanks for going through the production quality. From what I can tell in your video, it really looks like cardboard w/o any core :\ that's so disappointing but oh well. Thanks for showing this deck!! I'll probably do one once I get it - the delivery is delayed :\
I'll look forward to seeing your thoughts once you get it. I still think the deck is really special for the art abd interpretations but most decks are better quality card than this unfortunately.
A friend of mine did a little reading to me with this deck and was wonderful. The images and symbols are so updated that helped me to channel my intuition and actually encouraged me to make my own interpretations bacause was so easy to read.
These are amazing. I have also been following the progress of the deck on Instagram. I am little disappointed by the production quality-uneven sizes, square edges. I wonder if he will reprint or get it mass produced.
Yes the quality of the physical product is frustrating. If it came out as a mass market deck I'd get it for sure. But I would not pay that sort of money for an indie reprint again.
@@HazelJaneTarot thank you for saying that. The price for the quality seems out of proportion. It’s as if the artist designed it to be an art object rather than a workable deck. I’ve been pondering this deck but your comment convinced me to wait for a possible reprint instead. Still I hope you get much joy from the deck as it’s still rather special!
@@lyra2282 I think you've got the nail on the head. The artist perhaps has experience of printing art cards and sees it as a mini collection rather than a working deck 🤷🏻♀️ Well if that's the case, it is a wonderful collection at least.
@@HazelJaneTarot Absolutely! and it will likely to hold value quite strongly over time. I really love the art and the concepts behind many of the images!
Oh, I’m really drawn in by this deck! It’s so unique and quite powerful. The Strength card is from the very southern edge of my home state (Monument Valley, Utah), and really speaks to me-the red rock desert is my spirit-home. And that 5 of Swords-my eye didn’t make out what the shadow was for a few seconds…when it did, I teared up as well. What a gut punch. …I agree, this deck needs to be picked up mass market. But I might need to find a way to get a copy before then. This was a real treat-thank you so much. :)
Thanks so much! Yes a mass market version with good card stock and maybe bigger cards would be awesome. For the money the physical cards you get now are frustrating. I am afraid of bending them but in determined to use them cause the art and concepts are great.
Fabulous art but the production problems combined with such a high price would be a definite no from me, with much regret. If it was picked up mass market (and the swords were more different coloured than the cups) I'd buy it definitely. Very interesting, thanks
I’m getting ready to post my video of first impressions and after seeing yours I’m thinking maybe I don’t need to because much of what you’ve said is exactly what I’m thinking!!!!! The artwork is wonderful snd I love it but so disappointed by the production quality and lack of information about symbols in cards. The Mother of Cups is my favorite!!!!! 💙💙💙 loved hearing your first impressions!!!
Thanks so much for watching I'll definitely watch yours. There's not much on RU-vid about this deck yet. I do feel disappointed at how soft the cards are. But I'm determined to use them.
I have been following this for a while too and love the artwork, but was so disappointed by the quality, It’s like the cards you used to get in matchboxes
I want this so much~~~ And it isn't anymore in print... :( That 8 of pentacles is creating peace of mind with a balanced body. A lot of eastern martial arts are more about perfecting the mind state through discipline of the body and that's why they take years to master and ascend in level. The deck has such respectful cultural diversity that I'm amazed. The only thing I can spot as outright wrong is the four of wands, because pointing out with chopsticks is considered very rude in Japan. Tattooing in most most tribal practices (six of wands) is related to being accepted in the tribe as an adult. It's a sign of officially belonging somewhere and coming out of age. So it is always followed with some sort of celebration. The 10 of wands being a crow with their eggs and the murder in the back is probably talking about the responsibility of child-rearing and pretty sure the fact that crows have long term memory as a pack may play a role in the cards depiction. The four of swords relates with the rule for the samurai to put away their swords when they were in a tea ceremony to show respect and enjoy the tranquility. The man sitting in a seiza pose (sitting on your legs) highlights the fact that he isn't gonna be fighting or being alert, because this type of sitting makes your legs numb (on purpose). The son of swords is a reference to sword dancing (cue: the fingers). It's known for grace and speed but this wouldn't be able to be easy to be depicted with just one image.
What thoughtful observations. I really hope you can get a copy as you resonate with it so much. It would be great if it came out mass market on some nice card stock!
Why I fee like it's just an self printed deck but not the original from R.Black ??.. it looks very much handmade and rough on the same time. I am following his work from almost a year and waiting for it. But this outcome doesn't give me chills. The art work is stunning. Plz improve the cardstock.
