I think the "county out" post was actually an intentional reference to a video on the Lion King remake, where it's pointed out that Zazu legitimately sounds like he's saying "county out" instead of "count me out" in one of his lines in _I Just Can't Wait To Be King_

Wait hang on, the "County Out" one is intentionally. The Lion King Garbage remake has a line where Zazu says "if this is where the monarchy is headed COUNTY out" because the va scuffed the line. The Lion King prequel trailer was bad so the commenter was making a joke about it.

Bone Apple Tea is a beautiful subreddit that could have been twice or three times the length of this video and is the main reason I even have a Reddit.

It's funny, because here in the south of England you would hear a lot of people, including myself, not pronounce the "t" in right of way, instead of the "f". So it becomes "righ' uf way" - not even properly pronouncing the "o".

There is actually a real term in linguistics for this, called eggcorns (after a common misinterpretation of acorn).

Most often it's just: "remember, English spelling does not make sense even for natives, so just learn spelling of each word on it's own without any rules". Basically people are just told that there are no sensible rules and to just memorise the spelling of each individual word. In other words, don't worry Jack - only natives are tortured with this

5:40 ffs, the English language is no more convoluted or difficult than any of the other myriad of languages out there. It gets shit on the most because it's one of the most prevalent, but Japan has three (3!) different alphabets, Chinese mandarin knocks English out of the park, FRENCH is a language with fucked up extra letters and a weird counting system. And that's not counting the many lesser-known languages, like the Algonquian, Cherokee, and other Native American languages that are so difficult to learn and interpret, they were used as cyphers and coded languages in WWII. Tired of all this boo-hooing about a language that is not any more difficult to learn than any of the other doozies of a language.

English isn't my first language, so this subreddit is always a good opportunity to test my abilities. About 95% of the time, I know what the wrong term is and about 50% of the time, I'm able to figure out what the right term would be.
