I had not listened to this song in almost 30 years. There was a dive bar in North Seattle (Lion's Lair on Aurora Ave. N) that had it on their jukebox. In those days I used to practically live in the place. A great tune that I used to play again and again.
I know you I know you've seen her She's a sad tomato She's three miles of bad road Walking down the street Will I never meet her? She's a real woman-child Oh, my kiss breath turpentine I am smitten I'm the real thing (I'm the real thing) Have you seen her come around? My crush with eyeliner I'm in like I'm infatuated It's all too much, the pressure She's all that I can take What position should I wear? Cop an attitude? (you fake her) How can I convince her? (fake her) That I'm invented too, yeah I am smitten I'm the real thing (I'm the real thing) We all invent ourselves And, uh, you know me She's a sad tomato She's three miles of bad road She's her own invention (she's her own invention) That gets me in the throat What can I make myself be? ahh, Life is strange, yeah (life is strange) What can I make myself be? (fake her) To make her mine? I am smitten I'll do anything (I'll do anything) A kiss breath turpentine My crush with eyeliner I am smitten ahh, You know me (yeah, you know me) I could be your Frankenstein My crush with eyeliner I am smitten I'm the real thing (I'm the real thing) Won't you be my valentine? My crush with eyeliner
She's a sad tomato? Is that a saying somewhere in the World? I thought I misheard that line and I'm just as confused now that I know I heard it correctly.😅
May 26th 1995 11th Grade, Its FRIDAY! Woke up at 4 a.m. to eat some LSD, it is now just before 6am, peaking on LSD, the Sunrise :).... its the first warm day of the year in Portland.... this CD in my cd player... in my headsets.... volume very high.... wow I'm happy for the first time in awhile, hate the long cold winters and lame Portland in general.... but for a moment, its Friday and I'm tripping, and I know summer is a week away and I'm leaving! Trippy song 🐄🛸
I only know these two songs of REM "Whats the frequency kenneth" and "Losing my religion".I was a baby during this era so haven't heard much beyond these two songs, but I love REM 💕💕💕
I was lucky enough that my mom was a *huge* REM fan... so, when I 5 years old I was soaked in Automatic, then when I was 6 or 7 I was soaked in Monster...
Borrowed from songwriter Hoagy Carmichael, originally sung by Lauren Bacall in the movie " The Big Sleep" if memory serves? . . .from 1946. Song was called " Sob, Sob Sister".
@@joshuawilliams124 check the book "REM Inside out, the story behind every song", Peter Buck says he bought a wah wah pedal from a second hand shop for $5 and used it on the song

@@billybeetroot8595 apparently it was about her n the entire album happened around Kurts death so they built it around that n gave it a more grungy feel.. A kind of tribute from rem because it was a more darker indie album for them compared to the others they released previously.
