She could've also been charged with a religious hate crime if this was taken even further. It was obvious she was there looking for trouble if she felt that strongly about the decorations. Her kids even said since their mom said that the decorations were 'satanic', they took it upon themselves to destroy it. It's one thing to dislike a holiday because of your religious beliefs, but it's another thing when these people feel entitled to project those beliefs on others because of their own prejudice. Exactly. And I may be a Christian but I'm not stupid enough to ignore the pagan origins of Hallowe'en. Back in the middle ages, the Church at the time wanted to bring in as many non-Christians as they could, and the easiest way to do that was to "convert" the pagan holidays into something they could keep with them in the church. Thus the druidic Samhain became Hallowe'en, as it was the evening before "all saints day" Nov 1. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. There are many more. And OP is going too far calling store security? Hell, with the willful destruction of property by the kids (and I hope OP recorded it), the Karen is lucky OP didn't call the cops. Hell; I would have. It's vandalism, pure and simple. And then I would have taken my security tapes and sued her ass off in small claims court for damages.

@@misterinadequate3518 No, you had it right the first time, Satan, as a being didn't come around until the new testament, before Christianity there was no Satan, before Christianity, in Judaism, there was Ha satan "The opposer" or "The accuser" and it was not a single entity, it was a title granted to whatever angel was supposed to be guarding the entrance to heaven. Only Christianity and Islam (which is an offshoot of Christianity) have a Satan figure, no other religion has an exact counterpart to Satan, the closest I can think of is lord Hades, but even then it isn't exact, it's somewhat close, ruler of the underworld, punisher of wicked souls and all that, but Hades himself wasn't evil, he was just doing his job, and the realm of Hade is where everyone went after death, not just for the wicked people.

I worked at a men's store and we had these tables that the ties would go on. They had doors under them for the overstock ties. These were all silk ties between $15 and $35 each. One day it was raining pretty bad and this couple came in with 2 kids in tow. The parents went to the back of the store to look at suits and left the kids in the front to "look around for dad". The kids took the time their parents were looking at the suits to play hide and seek in the sportswear section, leaving muddy footprints all over the place! I found them under tables, in the dressing rooms, and hiding in the hanging clothing. The parents came out with their salesman and he asked me to match some shirts and ties for him, so I went to work on that. Next thing I know the parents are looking for the kids and yelling about why I hadn't been watching them. I ignored them and kept doing my job. I was over at the $35 tie table and found the kids .. under the table inside the cabinet with their muddy feet all over brand new ties. I almost hit the roof. I went in search of the manager, found him and explained what had happened. He came out but asked me to take care of it. I rolled my eyes and went over to them. I told the parents that their children had been found, then told them where and said that they would be charged for the ties ruined. The man seemed resigned to this but the mother .. oh boy! Her little darlings couldn't have done anything so horrible. So I took her over, my boss following, and showed her the ruined ties (about $1000 dollars worth). She screeched that it's not possible that it was her kids. So I showed her their shoes, then took her around the store showing her their muddy footprints. (The manager explained later why he wanted me to handle it. I'll get to that in a moment.). Luckily, no other merchandise was ruined. The parents paid for their suit and ruined ties and left. The manager later told me he was putting me up for a promotion and he was anted to see how I handled the stressful situation. BTW this was in 1986. I ended up with an assistant manager position at the store.

2:00 Imma bout to give y'all people a EXTREMELY long lecture about Halloween's origin Halloween's origin can be found in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced saw-en, meaning 'end of summer'). For the Celts who celebrated their new year on November 1st, the day marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter, the end of light and the beginning of darkness, the end of life and the beginning of death. The Celtic priests, called Druids, made large bonfires on hilltops around which the people gathered and offered sacrifices of crops and animals to the Celtic gods, as a thanksgiving offering for that years' crops and as an appeal for favor in the new coming year. Some have speculated that there were also human sacrifices at these bonfires, but modern scholars believe this not to be the case. This was viewed as a very spiritual time and divination was practiced especially in the form of fortune-telling. It was widely believed that on this night young women especially can find whether they might marry in the coming year and even the identity of their future spouse. It is also believed that on the eve of Samhain the line between the living and the dead became thin and the spirits of the Otherworld were allowed to roam the earth during this day, both spirits of departed loved ones during the previous year as well as evil spirits of ghouls and fairies looking to cause mischief and damage. The Celts, hoping for a visit from their departed loved ones, would set a place at the table for them and prepare a feast. They also set treats outside their house for the wandering spirits. To ward off evil spirits from their households, the Celts were known to set carved pumpkins (or turnips) in front of their doors. If they went out at night they wore costumes so that if they encountered an evil spirit they would be mistaken for an evil spirit themselves and thus be protected from evil and trouble. By A.D. 43 the Romans had successfully conquered most of the Celtic lands. During the next 400 years, Samhain was merged with two Roman holidays: Feralia, a day when Romans commemorated their dead, typically at the end of October, and secondly Pomona, a day of honoring the Roman goddess of fruit and trees. In 609 A.D. Pope Bonafice IV established the Catholic feast of All Martyrs' Day in honor of the early Roman martyrs, and this feast was later expanded by Pope Gregory III to include all saints and is still practiced today on November 1st as All Saints' Day (known also as Hallowtide or All Hallows). November 2nd is also celebrated as All Souls' Day mainly to honor the saints and pray for the lives of the recently departed who have not reached heaven yet. Some of the Halloween traditions can be seen in the festival surrounding All Saints' Day. There were traditions of ringing bells for the souls in purgatory; poor people, mostly children, would go from house to house "souling"-they would get 'soul cakes' in exchange for prayers for departed loved ones; people even wore costumes in order to protect themselves from wandering souls of the dead.

Hm. The right to private property is, as far as I understand, a fairly basic "American right". Your property is yours, not owned communally, and unless it's something illegal like a prohibited drug nobody else has any right to touch it without your permission, much less destroy it. That Karen sounds like a hypocrite of the worst kind. But then that seems to be one of the most basic attributes of that character type. They might latch to some sort of ideology, or not and just use what is opportunistic at the moment, but if they have decided that they are something, like a holier than thou Christian, it never changes their behavior (I'm old, I have met a few examples). They will use it to elevate themselves and lord over others every chance they get. No hint of what, as far as I know, are supposed to be the main Christian virtues (I'm a pagan, but I read a lot): temperance, justice, prudence, fortitude, faith, hope, and charity. Hm. I seem to recall something about loving others too... if there is any sort of afterlife and any justice there, that lady is probably going to have bit of a surprise. "But I was a CHRISTIAN! As a former cashier at a gas station, I feel that story from Kmart so very much. I had a group of teens (that I had just denied a beer sale to) stand right outside the glass door and hand money to an older guy who then came in and grabbed the exact same 12-pk I'd denied to the teens. He just shrugged when I declined the sale. The kids were so mad, but they didn't come back in or do anything at least. But probably the most common trick I saw kids do to try to buy tobacco underage was use military IDs. Most of them will have it in a wallet and just flash it at the cashier, only thing is - the birthdate is on the back. And ofc kids can sign up for the military with their parents permission (which is what my brother did despite the fact that neither of my parents actually wanted him to join the military- to this day, I don't know why they gave him permission). The look of shock and discomfort on the kids' faces when I asked them to take it out of the wallet was always so amusing to me. They were almost always underage. I did have one lady give me shit for IDing her for beer when she was in uniform once (she was old enough, just upset at having to pull out her ID). She was extremely upset that I would imply anyone would try to do anything illegal *in uniform.* Jokes on you, lady. It happens all the time. You can always tell when it's an actual sting, BTW. The kid will hand you their ID without any fuss and they'll just accept it when you tell them no.

Preferential hiring of military family members is NOT uncommon in many areas. Even across the country lots of large companies do the same. It's actually one of the perks of being military or a military family member. Moving from home to home is stressful. No the spouse isn't IN the military but they do suffer plenty of hardships because of it. I have been both active military and a spouse. Bad behavior of a spouse can be terrible for the military member which is ridiculous. (People are responsible for themselves when they are adult.) Not sure why people don't understand Personal responsibility! This though is nowhere near BAD behavior.

@@Kayenne54 Divorce in the military is extremely high. For many many reasons. One is people get married just because it's the only way to bring their significant others with them. Another is that it's a high stress lifestyle. Lots of things that should be aren't in your own control.

She claimed my behavior was harassment and demanded the number of someone above me. I told her I would get her a sheet of a paper to write a complaint and (since I felt I had done nothing wrong) would be happy to forward it to management. I had tangled with her previously when I refused to take a personal check that she had mentioned was her mom's. This woman had to be in her 50s.
