I’m an Arab Muslim, but when I took a DNA test, it shown that I have distant Yemenite Jewish roots, shalom to my Jewish brothers and sisters, may we learn to live together peacefully!
Amen! And here is the great true! A voice like that have a life and it's important life! Hine Ma Tov! Stay together in love ❤ forever. Love between - it's important. Listen the voice and go where the our voice is speaking.
Harry Belafonte was of direct Dutch Sephardic descent and was fiercely proud of his heritage. He strove to include the Jewish community in his activism throughout his lifetime.
Hinneh mah Tov umah naʿiym sheveth aḥiym gam yaḥadh. The first verse of Psalm 133, which reads, "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!"
Beautiful!! I have no idea of what the lyrics are saying, but it brings up a feeling of deep reverence and dignity, some eleveted felling that is a noble part of the human soul! It's uplifting!❤❤❤
Grew up with this song back in Switzerland We learned it at music school As a Jew of color ( that s how I m called here in USA ) couldn’t be any prouder Toda Harry
@ cyndyb - I say the same as cyndyb! And I heard it first time in year 1967 and I sing this song with its beautifull lyrics till today! My opinion is, that this version (Belafonte) is the BEST ! We all are BROTHERS ! Many greetings and SHALOM from . K A R O L !
My mother taught me this song when I was three years old, and I couldn’t t stop singing it. Although I did not understand the words, I felt the meaning asi wanted all of my friends to sing along with me
Funny you say that floortje, because when I was young, probably over 50 years ago living in Los Gatos CA, a neighbor girl taught me the song... And I too had no idea what it meant. I didn't even know it was a Jewish song.
Lyrics in Transliteration of Hebrew: Hineh ma tov uma na'im Shevet achim gam yachad. Hineh ma tov uma na'im Shevet achim gam yachad. Chorus Hineh ma tov Shevet achim gam yachad. In English: How good and pleasant it is For brothers & sisters to sit together. How good and pleasant it is For brothers & sisters to sit together. Chorus How good it is For brothers & sisters to sit together. It's taken from Psalm 133
The Psalm. It's not everything about the true but here is a voice of the God. The good sweet voice. It's trying to kiss your Soul. If You accept, let's go! Hine Ma Tov! 🇮🇱❤🇮🇱✡🇮🇱🌍🇮🇱
My parents had the album on which he sang this and, as a little girl, I heard it often. Even today, when I hear hinei ma tov, I always, always think of Harry Belafonte first.
"How delightful it is for brethren to share together" -- how delightful it is to hear a great singer/actor/entertainer, a great humanitarian activist, a great soul, share this song with all of us. Thank you, Harry Belafonte, for everything you have offered the world.
Alas, I knew of Harry Belafonte's humanitarianism when he was mentored by Paul Robeson, but I recently found out that late in life he became anti-Israel. I will continue to admire him for everything he offered the world, but I am offended by his animosity to Israel.
This song became permanently etched into the Jewish psyche after the miraculous rescue operation on July 4, 1976 in Entebbe Uganda, upon learning of the only Israeli soldier's death (the mission commander Yoni Netenyahu, brother of Israel's current PM) his men sang this song over and over. This song codifies what Israel is and what it stands for. All Jews are brothers and sisters, we are one nation, one family. and it is wonderful when we as a nation work together
Thank you so much for the explanation. I was watching a video with Danny Kaye and Harry Belafonte and RU-vid brought me here. When I heard the song, I had a strong reaction but I didn't understand why until I read what you wrote. Then I remembered, when I was a small girl the movie about Entebbe came out and even at a young age I was moved by this song. I haven't heard it since and I'm delighted to find it now!
Wow, magnificent! I first learned this hymn, taken from the 1st verse of Psalm 133, when I was 5, but I just heard Belafonte sing it today! Brought tears to my eyes
When I was young in the 60's my father built a real to reel stereo system. Harry Belefonte and this song was one of the tapes he played over and over. So glad I found it again after hearing it sung by Paul Wilbur. I knew it sounded familiar.

Chorus How good it is For brothers & sisters to sit together. It's taken from Psalm 133
In our eyes Jewish history is full of tragedy but in eye of HaShem is not like that. It's a history about Glory of The HaShem! 2000 years! And the Land come back! What it is? It is the Glory of the HaShem. He is showing simple all. 😊
How beautiful, warmhearted and touching, thank you!...my son sang and played on flute this song in the 3rd year of his waldorf school when they were talking about Old Testament.
.הִנֵּה מַה טוֹב = Hine mah tov Behold how good וּמַה נָּעִים = uMah Na-im and how pleasing שֶׁבֶת אָחִים גַּם יַחַד = shevet achim gam yachad if brothers (people) could sit together in unity
This is just so beautiful to hear and meditate upon. I was inspired by this music from the movie 'Raid on Entebbe'. I love Isreal, a very inspirational people and nation, that organised a perfect rescue mission; i would love to learn the Jewish language too. Let me keep myself inspired by the music.
There will never be another. He was beautiful inside and out. He embraced civil rights with as much passion as he sang. I love him so much. RIP Mr. Belafonte 💔❤️💔
I remembered singing along with his greatest hits album on a slow play 1960s huge record stereo with built-in speakers, way back in the late 1980s. Too bad this song was not on it, maybe I would have Stood Up sooner .
