I was at Lowe's the other day in a baggy D&D-themed t-shirt and noise cancelling headphones, meandering around looking at clearance houseplants. A very, very tiny old lady creaked up and waved and waved and waved at me to get attention, and when I paused my audiobook and pulled my headphones down, she told me that she needed some kind of paint. I told her "I'm sorry, I don't work here." She just... stared. Like it didn't compute at all. I was gearing up for a really exciting story. Then she said, "Oh, but you look so competent." And turned around and tottered off. Well, okay, I'll take it! 😂
"How stupid you think am I?"... she open the door so large that I don't understand OP didn't take the opportunity : "Stupid enough to not understand that as a CONTRACTOR I can't operate the register!"
The one major thing I’ll never understand is how these assholes believe after berating and insulting random people/employees will magically force them to help.
They believe the employees are obligated to do so, regardless of how they act. Which, to be fair, they all too often are by callous managers who don’t value the mental and emotional health of their employees.
@@ShadowTaipan Technically speaking, everyone is their own main character and simultaneously they are an NPC to everyone else. A bit more literal in Ryan Reynolds' case.
Would take a photo of the leaves, and complain to management that your neighbour deliberately obstructed your door, and forced you to clean up the leaves, and you want to complain.
Last story - I was in a large chain grocery store and went to the men's room to..... well, you know... So I'm finishing up at the urinal and heading to the sinks to wash up, when one of the stall doors opens up and.... out walks a middle-aged woman. We stare at each other for a few seconds (felt like an eternity), and she says "What are you doing in the ladies room?". My shocked self didn't/couldn't speak so I just turned and pointed to the row of urinals... She looked, paused, looked back at me and said. "Well, it's a great place to meet men !", turned, and walked out the door. Best improvised line ever.
Story 2 - If i had seen that I would’ve been laughing my butt off while saying ‘Who are you calling stupid lady? You’re the one who mistook a contractor as a cashier and made him ‘ring up’ your crap!’
Story 1. Go to management and file a harassment complaint. Even if they do nothing about it immediately, there is a trail started that can be pointed to about Karen being a Karen.
In The Case of The Larcenous Little Sister, I suspect Little Sister was sent in to steal because Big Sister was already known to the cops, probably as a serial shoplifter. She knew if she went in there, there was a high probability of her getting caught, which is exactly what happened.
What I found funny was the teenager in story 3 repeatedly saying that she's going to sue the store for hurting her sister, but yet if she's not 18, then she can't sue anyone.
In Canada, you have to be 18 or have a litigation guardian in place if you are a minor. From what I have looked up for the UnitedStates, a minor can sue, but only if they have a representative. They have to be 18 if they want to file on their own and represent themselves. Just from what I have read.
Probably over 18, so knows she will be tried as an adult, and thus using a minor to do the theft instead. However she now not only has a charge of theft, but also a charge of racketeering as well, plus child endangerment, and likely a few priors as juvenile that will now be unsealed, and used to show a pattern of criminal behaviour, and thus will be used to show intent and premeditation, making her time so much more.
He should have also asked the manager, since the stores so busy that his customers have to harass him when he's doing his job, then why isn't the manager at a register?
Maybe he thought it would be better if they did not know how he looks and let them think he is "just an employee" so they would let his trolling slide, rather than getting upset that it was the actual contractor trolling them for their mistakes.
With the little sister being forced to steal, now their parents will get a visit from the police and CPS. This is going to be massively humiliating for them.
Unless they don't care! OP said it's a Bad section of town and it's possible that it has smeared through the whole family! I really hope not 😢!!! I hope that the little girl can tell her parents & be ok. I did live in a neighborhood where a family like that lived. Sad what poverty can do to family's
Story 1 - It is amazing to hear just how stupid some people are. You tell them you don’t work there and why you did what you did and they still believe that you’re a lowly employee being lazy.
The thing that puzzles me is: has there ever, anywhere, been an actual case of an employee pretending not to work in a store, when they in fact do? Ever, anywhere? Where do Karens get the idea that the world is full of skivers putting their employment at risk in such a silly way?
@@annalieff-saxby568To them everyone is just an employee who exists to do their bidding and the higher employees (the managers) are just there to keep them in line for the Karens, if they refuse to resist - so the Karen can threaten them with actual consequences and get their way - either by leveraging them back into taking the verbal abuse by threatening them or by actually hurting them with consequences, if the employee dares to keep resisting and insists on his human dignity. Note: off course we all know, that employees are not humans! What a silly thought that would be.
1st Story: I guess Pajamas is a new uniform for a cleaning crew if Karens are going to mistake normal people for them. 5th Story: Also, just because someone is helping someone in a store doesn't mean automatically they are a employee, sometimes they are just being nice.
I worked as a maintenance man for section 8 housing for about 3 months. One of the cleaning crew actually lived there and she “worked” in her PJs a lot
Instead of saying beep, beep, beep, while he was pretending to scan her items at the register. He should have pretended to scan her hand with the scan gun, then reply, "Ding, ding, ding, ding the lights are on but nobody's home."
That little sister's action was definitely a case of mistreatment-induced betrayal. She had enough of her big sister's crap and opted to let her sister face the consequences. As she should.
Story 5: I can't help but wonder if Karen actually did have a gun in her car. I know some people like to use intimidation and fear as a weapon to scare people into compliance. There's a chance she just never grew out of that schoolyard bully mindset and was bluffing. But there's also a chance that she wasn't, and that could have ended very badly if that threat wasn't taken seriously. NEVER call bluff on a gun threat.
I work in an emergency room. After some very bad experiences with family members, we no longer allow them into our rooms. Children are exempt from this rule, but we only allow them to be accompanied by a single person. It is always the relatives who cause the greatest terror, not the actual patients. The no relatives rule allows us to care more for the patient with less stress.
Regarding the leaves in front of the door, I actually had a similar situation. Main difference was that for me, it was the neighbor dumping their garbage/recycling/etc. in my bins. I moved what would fit into their own bins, asked them not to do it again, and got the door slammed in my face. A week later, same thing happened. I asked again for them to stop, and got stonewalled once more. Next week was yet another incident. I simply tipped my bins over and left all of their garbage in their driveway, surrounding their car. My bins have remained mine to this day.
I am amazed that anyone truly thinks that they can make a demand of someone being fired ..... when they are only a shopper in a store, not in any way a part of the management.
Third story: She clearly thought on it. "I'll send my sister to steal, she doesn't have a record, she won't be stopped and if she is and gets hurt I'll Karen up to get what I want". Douchebag.
First story - I’d get super petty ! I’d get all the leaves that she’d swept up to my door, add some glue all over her front door and stick the leaves to it possibly adding some glitter for effect ! Nothing like a bit of artistic licence ! 🤣😂🤪😂🤣😂🤣😂
Story 1. OP should have took a photo of the pile of crap outside his door and sent it to management and discuss this incident with them. He may be able to get this crazy person evicted. At least he can have management start a complaint file on her as ammo to eventually have her evicted. Story 5. It a crazy Karen demands you get a ladder, Tell her "you are right, mam I will run and get the ladder now." Then continue your shopping and forget about her. If she finds you again tell her "the ladder was gone, so someone else was using it. I'll go see if it is back now." Then leave again and head to checkout.
As a former rotating shift worker, I once accidentally walked into the woman's washroom after a very long shift. Came face to face with a cop. Luckily she knew that look on my face and pointed to the next washroom.
Story 1, I had weird neighborhood feud too. We used to live on a corner house and it started when someone didn't clean up their dogs poo. We had no animals the whole time we were there. Well, someone decided to bag up the mess, dropped the baggy and a note saying to clean up after our pets on our doorstep; the trash can was 20ft away btw. I took pictures. Then, I wrote, "WE DONT HAVE ANIMALS" at the top of the note, threw the baggy away, and stuck the note on the railing. Had trash dumped on the doorstep the next few days. Took pictures. Now the neighbor did have dogs. 1 being a puppy that could squeeze through the fence and had previously, all the neighbors came out to corral her playful self back home. So when a raw steak was left on my mat, I took pics, and called the non-emergency police line to send a cruiser. Again, we were a corner house, so I had them park right on the corner, where everyone could see. Told them I was worried someone was trying to poison pets. There had been other neighborhood complaints too about vandalism and trespassing. Turns out a couple rowdy teen brothers up the street were bored on spring break. Dont think they were the original note leaver, but the neighborhood was peaceful after the public display of investigation. Cop had me send them the photos for nuisance and harassment charges. Nothing came of it either except they stopped. But really, thats all I or anyone wanted.
Story 3: I remember when I saw this post, and it's bonkers that the thief of a sister really thought she could get away with all of this, honestly she's also pretty abusive towards the little girl. I just hope the little girl gets away from the teen, because that isn't a healthy sibling bond
Issue with story 2, him not being an employee of the store and going behind the counter can actually get him into a lot of trouble. I get he was trying to joke, but if the store wanted to, he could get arrested for doing that.
It's truly sad how many people can not seem to grasp the concept that just because a person works IN a Hospital, it doesn't mean they work FOR the Hospital... If Karen had tried that in my Cities Hospital, there would be a "Code White - [Coffee Shop]; Code White [Coffee Shop] announcement over the PA System and less than 45 seconds later, Security would have landed on Karen and removed her from the room...physically if necessary...they'd escort/drag her to a room next to the Main Security Room where she'd be told to sit down and wait for the Police to arrive... While my City is a fairly safe area, we do have the largest Hospital in the County/Region and tend to get a LOT of Violent Drug Pushers and their equally Violent Customers suffering the beginnings of the DT's because they're late for their next fix, as a result, there is always at least one Police Cruiser near the Hospital and Hospital Security have no sense of Humour about Code White (AKA DROP EVERYTHING AND GET THERE RIGHT FREAKING NOW!!!) calls...Code White is the Hospital equivalent of calling 911 and telling them you need a SWAT Team...
Re: the last story, I one time had an urgent bathroom need while shopping at Walmart, one of those with a wide door that splits into 2 halves, one side women's room, one side men's room. My urge was so great I apparently rushed right past multiple urinals, with who knows how many male customers using them, to a stall, where I locked myself into and used the toilet. As I exited, and was on my way to the sinks, I did finally notice my mistake, and quickly lowered my eyes and exited quickly, full of embarrassment. Luckily, no customer nor employee made a complaint about me using the wrong bathroom!
My hubby took our oldest daughter with him to the store when she was little. Under 5, probably closer to 3. They were shopping, and she said she needed to go potty. He took her in with him into the men's. After she finished and he was helping wash her hands. This guy walks in and sees hubby, but when he sees her, he gets confused. Says oh. I'm sorry. Hubby tells him loudly, so the guy hears him, dude, this is the men's. Why would i, a grown man. Take my little girl into the women's. I really don't like having women yell at me. Lol
Assault is verbal. Battery is physical. To remember it I think an asshole screaming threats is assault; getting a bat and beating someone with it is battery.
Not necessarily verbal, just causing someone to reasonably fear harm, whether by saying you're going to or, for instance, smashing a bottle and brandishing it. I like your mnemonic, though! And of course, that's legal terminology; it's still perfectly fine to use "assault" to mean "attack" in everyday language.
Story 5: Not just racist, but DANGEROUSLY racist. Like, straight up threatening gun violence racist. I have no idea how Karen thought she could get away with threatening people, but she did get arrested.
I just call The building super or landlord and tell him that there's somebody who's a vindictive tenant that doesn't understand how to have manners in decent etiquette towards other human beings AKA their cleaning stuff.
Lady really thought Dollar General has its cashiers not just doing the tiling, but doing the tiling during store hours… 🤦♀️ There’s just no hope for some people.
I love that last story! (Wrong bathroom.) Something similar happened to me a few years ago. I (a woman) was at a tourist stop on a road trip, minding my own business in the bathroom. While I'm in the stall, the door to the bathroom opens and closes. No big deal. But while I'm washing my hands, a gentleman in his 60s or 70s comes out of the other stall. The blush on his face told the whole story! I felt bad for him, so I just shrugged and didn't say anything.
Fluff's comment on story 5 reminded me of the news story where an officer in the German army, who bought into disinformation, claimed to have fallen ill due to the coronavaccine, but instead of seeking medical advice grabbed classified documents and mailed them to the Russian consulate, with a note stating he could procure more. But when there was no response he continued badgering the Russians using different means of communication, and he eventually ended up in court. (I believe, he went to the police to confess.) The judge remarked how they found it inexplicable that apparently the soldier had an easier time committing treason than visiting a doctor.
Story 4 : all I could think of was : she wasn't an authorized visitor and she thougt bullying someone lower on the power chain could get her passed security....
Fourth story: "A competent employee would have knows that I needed help." And a costumer with the slightest sign of manners would ask for help instead of expect it. Seriously, employees are working all the time and when someone asks for help they stop their actual work to help. Also, that woman had something worse than dr*gs in her if she made a terrorist threat in front of witnesses.
Contractor Story: OP was kinder than I'd have been... I would have walked behind the counter, picked up the scanner wand, pointed it at one of Karen's item's, pull the trigger and when nothing happened, look Karen dead in the eyes and say "Oh look, nothing happened because I DON'T HAVE THE ACCESS CODE FOR THE TILL BECAUSE I DON'T WORK FOR DOLLERAMA YOU STUPID TWIT!!!" then walk back to the broken Tile area and go back to work... If/when the Store Manager told me to not do that again or he'd have to call my Manager, I'd snort and say "Go ahead and call her, my Wife would love the Laugh..." 😄😁😆😅😂🤣
In the first story. Id sit ther buying some fireworks as well. Maybe firget the leaf blower cause why not have a group over doing that. Then when karen complains. "Hey, we're trying to have fun here, karen. Not be a wadda-call-it like you constantly knocking on my door demanding that i work here."
Story 5: 1) Even if OP was an employee, retail employees aren't necessarily required to ask people if they need help, we just have to make ourselves available to help to the best of our ability if a customer asks for it. Plenty of people browse around, if they need help, they'll ask. 2) I take it this happened somewhere down south, given Karen's heavily racist attitude, white persecution complex, and gun threat. I lived in Texas for 4 years, she likely _did_ have a gun in her car, and a threat like that is not something to try and call a bluff on. 3) I commend OP for sticking around for the sake of the actual staff rather than just sending that rabid psycho after them, even though I wouldn't have blamed him if he left.
@@DonDueed Oh especially in certain blue states(like Oregon my OG home state was originally founded for "white's only" type of reasons and even the town I was in as a kid's HS mascot was "The Dallas Dragons" OG not for the mystical beast but... well.. the "High Dragon" rank in a white supremacist group. x-x But the threat of guns is def as more red state flavor of racism.
Story 4: I think banning the karen from the hospital will actually help her father, rather than having that screaming banshee screaming at him all day and all night. Also, the nurses on the floor don't need an out of control karen screeching at them.
When I first had to visit someone in the hospital, I too made the mistake of going to the coffee shop to ask for directions. I was also told that this is a coffee shop and thus the barista can't help me. You know what I did next? I ordered a f-ing tuna sandwich cause I figured the person I went to visit might want some real food, and I went to ask more appropriate personnel for directions, because even being in some distress, I still wasn't deaf, right?
Story 5: Karen threatens a mass-shooting in a Walmart because a customer refused her demand. Karen is going to prison very soon. Karen will NOT do well in prison. Goodbye Karen.
That last story reminds me of something that happened many years ago. We were in Outback. Don't know about now because I haven't been in one for years. But they didn't have the men's and ladies rooms listed that way. Don't recall what the men's room was, but the ladies room had a sign that said Shelias. I had my back to them, but my daughter says, Mom, a guy just went in the ladies room! I didn't believe her, until a guy came to a table near us and asked his friends, what's a Shelia? 😂
Dollar General story: Well, that's one advantage of working for yourself. Too bad the store manager didn't know that, but you really can't blame him. He has to deal with customer complaints all day. Attempted shoplifting story: I see a call to CPS being made about the teenager abusing little sister. As well as a home check for parental neglect. Coffee shop story: They need a HUGE sign behind the counter that says coffee shop staff CANNOT help with any patient information. Walmart threat story: Yep, that's one of the things you just don't do to store employees anywhere, threaten them with any kind of violence. I will guarantee that while that announcement was going out over the PA system a phone call was being made to 911. Wrong restroom story: Oops, been there. A very long time ago I went to a chain store, but a different location than the one I normally frequented. The layout was EXACTLY the same... except for one little thing which took me a moment to notice. The restrooms were reversed from the store I was used to. Fortunately, no one else was in it. I backed out and went to the correct one.
I (male) walked into the women's rest room in a Cracker Barrel once because a pole blocked the 'Wo" from the "Womens" sign. As I walked in, a middle-aged black woman walked out of one of the stalls. I immediately said, "Is this the women's room"? to which she replied "yes". I apologized and left, leaving her standing there laughing her butt off. Not much of a story, but these things do happen.
Fun fact related to story 2 - the developers of the original Half Life video game had no way of adding computer "beep" sounds, so they had NPCs make the sounds in the same way OP did. If you look carefully at the faces of security guards around computer terminals you can see their mouths moving whenever the computers beep
23:03 " She needs to use the restroom, badly." No! Bad Grammer! Is she planning on spraying her urine everywhere and wiping the walls with her feces? How about, "She badly needs to use the restroom"? In the first example, the adverb 'Badly' is modifying the verb 'Use'. In the second example, the adverb 'Badly' is modifying the verb 'Need'. COMPLETELY different meaning!
So here's the thing with this sub that I don't understand: why, when they refuse to believe that you don't, do people bother sticking around to continue arguing. Just walk away. Let them waste their time following you. Worst case, they'll do something stupid and get arrested.
People find it hard to accept that someone could actually be *that* stupid and think that if they just explain it again the person will definitely use the barest amount of logic and reason.
Story 5: While working and shopping at Wal-Mart, I've observed too many entitled people who assume that if you assist anyone in the store, you must be an employee and have to help them.
Story 1: you can buy official-looking signs saying "WARNING ⚠️ My neighbor is a Karen". But that only works if there's no ambiguity as to which neighbor holds that title.
I went into a Men's restroom by accident once (I really had to go). I didn't realize until I was inside that there were urinals so I just walked past them to the stalls. No one else was in the restroom. When I finished, I washed my hands & as I turned to leave a young man came in, he gave me a strange look (I suppose wondering if I was trans), & watched me leave. I was so embarrassed.
I'm surprised I don't have one of these stories... yet. I'm an electrician, and proficient in many aspects of home improvement & maintenance. Consequently, I'll help out DIY'ers in hardware stores if they look lost & confused--especially in electrical--so they don't waste time & money, or to let them know they're in over their head on a given project and they need to call a pro. I guess I'm just rolling the dice by doing this, and encountering an entitled Karen is in my future
Does anyone else imagine these karens trying to complain about what happened that day to the ppl in thier life and the person being like, "so they told u they didnt work there and u still demanded they serve u?"
Story 1: Her banging on the door would've been enough to make me call the serious business patrol, just so her behaviour could go on record with them, then also file a complaint about her with the management, so they have a record, too. People who are like this right from the get-go will never learn and will, most likely, escalate in the future. Story 4: I don't care if she was stressed about her father, she has shown everyone precisely who she is, as a person.
First story: That Karen clearly wanted to boss someone around. First thinks OP is a worker, then when she got that OP doesn't work as clean staff she doubled down to order OP to clean, and for free. I would have sweeped the leaves, open her door and as fast as possible push everything towards her apartment. I can be that petty when pushes hard enough.
First story- crazy neighbours are such a fear of mine, I just nod hello/goodbye to my neighbours and keep everything very superficial and polite- I mean, they know where I live!!
I work in an emergency room, checking patients in. About two weeks ago, I was checking in on a patient when an old man walked up to my desk and yelled at me to do my job (I was doing my job). Security quickly and tried to calm him down. He wanted to see his wife in the main hospital area, not the ER. The old man yelled at security, the nursing staff, and his son. He kept saying if his wife died, it would be our fault for not letting him see her. 🙄 He was allowed to see her, but security told me the only reason he was allowed was his son calming him down; otherwise, he would have been kicked out of the hospital for his outburst.
I cant understand why it's hard for some people to understand that people can be employed under specific sections in places. Like someone working at a store at a mall doesnt make them a mall employee for example
Story 1: I wouldhave scooped the leaves into a bag and threw them out, and left a note for my neighbour thanking them for their service, and asking if they'll be cleaning the hallway again next week too.
I've known 2 women actually named Karen in my life. The second was a level headed straight shooter. Did her job with professionalism. The first was best termed a flake. You couldn't rely on her for anything. If you needed a piece of paper to save your life, you can bet she'd be 3 days late.
That daugjter at the hospital definitely went on to earn a rep with the nurses. No way she left that at the coffee shop because that is who she is, the stress just made it worse.
I've had this happened to me on last one BUT I was cleaning the men's restroom and a man walks in and whips it out while I'm wiping down the mirror. He looks up and smiles at me through the mirror. Didn't give me a chance to vacate the area...
The Tiler reminds me of something I did when I got harassed while shopping at V- Markt after Work. The moment she told me to do my job I hopped into the nearest forklift, drove up to her and asked what pallet she needs. When she asked why she would need a pallet I said "well, you told me to do my job, I'm a forklift operator, picking pallets out of racks is my job." She stomped off in a huff.
Opposite side of the fence, kind of. So I’m surveillance at a casino, and I have to wear a suit which makes me look a lot more important than I am, and I’m a pretty big dude. A guest was wearing a ‘security’ hoodie but wasn’t an employee, and was playing on a slot machine. It’s important to note that our security staff either wears suits if supervisor or basically a cop uniform with the casino logo on it if regular security. I was going out on my smoke break when I see this old lady start freaking out at the guy, screaming that it was so unprofessional for him to be gambling on the clock. Guy was trying to leave when I step in and ask if I can help where the lady banshee shrieks in my face that ‘my employee’ was gambling on the job. I essentially explain the difference between the uniforms and state that he doesn’t work here and told her that I would be forced to get security if she doesn’t stop bothering our guests. She then proceeds to try to grab my radio. I have very specific instructions for this, it’s an expensive piece of equipment that can access restricted channels so I told her to stop and would be forced to take her to the ground if she continued. She then grabbed my person (specifically, my suit collar) and screamed that she was a Ruby player (really not that impressive) and she’d have my job. Since it’s an old lady I don’t want to tackle her like I’m supposed to in this situation but I do push her back into a chair. She screams that she’s going to sue and whatever else, but security notices and escorts both of us to the main entrance (protocol whenever force is used, and I just so happen to know it happened right by a camera so I’m not worried). Long story short the casino ends up pressing charges, and one of her rings wound up damaging my suit coat so she’s in small claims with me now. We did also speak to the guests to perhaps it was a bit unwise about wearing their work materials at another place that also has security.
Story 2 - Why do customers think they can demand staff open checkouts for them? That is up to their supervisors. Even if they do open up another lane, why should that customer go to the front. The next customer(s) in the existing line(s) should go first and Karen should go to the back.
As someone who had my paternal grandmother named Karen tried to kidnap me, some people do live up to thier name. Though, I know a Karen that definitely wasn't a Karen, but as far as I know she's dead.
Wrong bathroom: I had a similar experience. I was at ASU, ~50k students, and I spent a lot of time in the math lab. The men’s room when coming from math lab was on the L. Well one day I was coming from the other direction and had to go bad so I just went in. Weird, there’s a comfy chair in here. Then as I close the stall door to pee I see there’s no urinals around the corner, weird. Then I hear a woman come in. Oh damn I was feeling like I’d really messed up. I waited for her to leave and then I bolted. I was so afraid I’d be treated like a perv or a freak of some kind. Never gone into a bathroom without checking several times that I’m heading to the correct one since then.
