21:06 I got as far as the interview process with an MLM. It was supposed to be a group interview. There were several people waiting with me, and the interviewer was running late due to a weekly meeting going over. The office was open air cubicle style, so we all could hear it. Some of the employees and the branch manager were attending via phone, and suddenly one of the other phone attendees’s kids went screeching through the room they were in. Branch manager lost his shit. It’s understandable to mention that home offices should be closed, professional spaces and ask not to have that happen again. If we had heard the branch manager give that response and then move on with the meeting, I imagine things would have gone a lot differently. I think the branch manager may have actually invented some new swears, the invective coming out of him was insane. Most of the people there for the interview left within 30 seconds of it the volley of garbage spewing out of that person’s mouth. I stayed, it’s only because I wanted to ask if this was a normal occurrence at this place of business. The interviewer admitted that it did happen on a fairly regular basis, and that the branch manager was just ‘very passionate.’ O.o I told the interviewer that nobody should have to be subjected to that kind of abuse for a paycheck, including them, thank them for the opportunity and walked out.

I think OP had every right to go off on that “older” man. He admitted to taking the case but lied about paying for it. The shouting only started when OP called him on it which means, he very well knew what he was doing. He was cognizant enough to know OP was talking to the cashier in a more than professional fashion. There was nothing wrong with this man except that he was a thief.

I had both an uncle and an old teacher try to get me to sell Amway. I had no desire to do so. Years later, I did try to sell Tupperware. But, while I was good at doing the parties, I wasn't pushy about getting people to sign up for them. So, I eventually ran out of parties to do. I did lose money, but not a lot and still have some Tupperware around. I couldn't tell you the last time I was invited to any type of party. The big ones were Tupperware, Home Interiors, the Pampered Chef and one that sold crystal. They seem to have been replaced by essential oils.

Last story: I had the same situation when I was 20. I got offer for "marketing" position (first job offer after school) only to find out we were going around the city and selling business some cr*p like "a special dinner at high end restaurant voucher" which when you checked the menu was as expensive as what we sold. I just stayed with two people going around with me the morning and when we sat at lunch they looked at me and said "Guess it's not what you want to do?" - clearly I was annoyed but let them do their job without storming out. The company was sh*t but at least those people I walked with for 4 hours were nice and paid for my lunch that day.

Cue in the gym one. I was on the stairmaster and getting a really good workout when this woman walks up to me and says " you're only allowed on this machine for 30 minutes". There were other machines available and when I said that, she exclaimed " I want the one by the window and you're on it!!! " I had seen her in ladies locker room previously and noticed the key around her neck. So, I got off, not wanting to make a scene and left to lift some free weights. The gym got busier in the time I went to lift the free weights, and all the strairmasters were taken, and a woman walked up to her and said the same line she gave me. She was on it for more than thirty minutes. She told the woman to EFF OFF.. The woman left shocked. Anyway, I left my workout, went into the ladies locker room and for some reason, the crazy glue I had purchased at home hardware, suddenly fell out of my gym bag and magically squirted into the woman's lock where she would have needed to put her key in. I decided to continue my workout for whatever reasons, and was shocked when I stopped at the same time the horrible woman did and she couldnt fit her key into the locker where all her stuff was. She was raging. She looked at me and asked for help, well, demanded I help her. I said "Sorry, I can't. I have to be home in 30 minutes"

I was part of Cutco for a few weeks. They pitch you a minimum wage for time worked plus commission with an upline bonus system. I worked my ass off for three weeks, having multiple meetings per day (with no car) to sell knives and shit, and my first paycheck came out to $41.89. Because “the majority of your meetings were unqualified, so you will not be compensated for them.” Got a job at a golf course a week later and made that much daily in tips.

I used to work at a McDonalds that had a break room. Employees had a choice to either take their breaks in there or in the lobby. Also worked over a decade at assorted Whataburger locations. There was no break room in the ones I worked at, so we took breaks in the lobby. Fortunately we never had to deal with and Karen types regarding breaks… though I did get one to quickly shut up when I threatened to hire them so they could show us how it was supposedly done.

Story 3. I don't know where you get that 50 is an old man. It may be old to you but that is middle aged and nowhere near old and I'm sure that if confronted with a fist fight, the "old" man would have held his own. But all that aside, the older guy was wrong to talk to the younger guy like that and deserved his dressing down. I'm glad OP took him down to be honest. Most of these stories, the OPs don't give back as good as they get and it's good that he stood up for himself.

Now, I suggest you go eff off before I ring the police for both the boy's and my benefit." Third story: No, the OP wasn't overly aggressive. I’d just like to amend what you said at the end of the fourth story. Employees are replaceable, but some are not. There’s a few people at the place I work - me included - that cannot be easily replaced as we know everything about the place and know how to do 90% of the things there (even more than the managers in some cases). Losing anyone in our little group is devastating because it means the average “skill” of the place goes down, as training is very lax (despite our group’s efforts)

Why is it everyone in this generation is always trying to be polite. Like in story 3 he says oh he could have handled it better thats why she didnt give you her number. The way you handle the old man is to tell him "I'm sorry sir, you've obviously mistaken me for someone that won't slap the shit out of a decrepit old geezer. You might want to reconsider." Some dinosaurs think they can do and say anything they want just because they've roamed the earth longer than everyone else. It never hurts to remind them that their best days are behind them and all they have to look forward to is slowly wasting away until the end. ***This advice is only for the old roosters that still think they rule the roost.***

I had an experience with an MLM that rhymed with "today". At first they're approaching me by setting up a meeting in a random coffee shop with "an opportunity". Skipping all the details, I decided to attend their weekly seminar with some caution, as I didn't even know it's AW (they keep it ambiguous throughout the meeting and talking about their child company or something). But once I know I nope'd the f out the very next day with "not interested anymore". There're some more weird signs too but just knowing it's MLM is enough for me.

My ex-husband got me into Amway over 30 years ago. I was never completely sold on the idea. I remember one of the higher-ups telling us that it didn’t matter if we believed in the product or not, use it anyway. I completely disagree with that, and will not use products that I didn’t like. My ex got me into this but pretty soon managed to foist the paperwork off on me, and this was pre-computer time. We were in a year or two, we never bought any of the books or tapes that they wanted us to buy that would supposedly help our business grow. We were never allowed to make decisions about our own “company”. Years later, I was watching a video about MLM’s and heard the phrase, “toxic positivity“. Never has a phrase been so accurate.

I once interviewed for a job in insurance, which was advertised as salary plus commission, but when I got there I found it was commission only. I told him I was expecting a salary, as it was advertised and he got angry and called me a loser and to get out. Some months later I was working as office manager for a computer company and one day he called, trying to sell insurance to the company. Another time, a prior classmate contacted me all buddy-buddy like. After meeting and hearing him promoting yet another pyramid scheme, I just left. He kept nagging me about why I wasn't interested but after telling him I know, this is a pyramid scheme, he fortunately stopped his efforts. After their pitch, I gave them my most "annoying teacher" persona and explained, in GREAT detail, which of their products have known carcinogens and cancer causing stuff, and told them about MY product line of hand made REAL soap (not detergent like their "soap" actually is). After about half hour of lecturing them at my impromptu ted talk, they never bothered me again. Side note, they actually told me "it's not about the product, it's about the downline". I laughed in their face at that and said "you mean PYRAMID"? they hate that term
