Being a former bartender, I loved that last story! I have had to deal with so much stupidity from people. AND BEGGING FOR FREE DRINKS!!!! My way of handling beggars was telling them I was going to make them a special freebie. I'd get them distracted and empty the drip mat into a shot glass. A drip mat is where the drinks are mixed. Everything spills into them, beer, liquor and mixers. It's nasty. But that would be free! They would take the shot, look pained, and never ask for anything for free again!

Story 4. Even with bouncers present, it takes quite some balls to do what OP did. There's no guarantee the drunks would wait to be fully outside, or that they wouldn't just bash him in the back of the head while going outside. Still, clever ruse.

Most bouncers are all bluff. Mumble years ago, a friend of mine worked as a bouncer on Saturday evenings to supplement his other income. He was somewhere north of six foot seven, and wide in the shoulder to match. He told me that all he ever had to do was to stand close to someone, and they got the message. His great fear, he said, was that someone would call his bluff. "I've never actually been in a fight - I wouldn't know what to do."

I was at an outdoor show in San Diego. Lady was sitting in the middle of the last three open seats. I asked if she could move to one end or the other so my wife and I can sit together. Lady refused. Wife started getting worked up, and I said "Don't worry about it, Wife. She's probably just from New York or something." A minute or two later, the lady leaves. :-)

Back in high school, my best friend and I went to a movie, matinee but still a popular movie that ushers were used and counting entries to make sure they had enough seats and to find seats if need be. Same sitch, 3 seats but a nasty old hag in the middle who wanted her elbow-room. Usher *put* us there so the hag couldn't really say anything, she refused to slide over to let us sit together, so there we were, one on either side, having a great (and loud) conversation right across her as the movie hadn't started yet, even passing things back'n'forth right across her. The hag's breaking point was when he got a big tub of popcorn and kept handing it to me right across her so I could grab another and another handful. Finally she cracked and said "Fine! Take your f'ing seats together!", and got up to slide over. Perfect timing, as like 30sec later the lights dimmed for the movie to start. Best part is that neither of us ever got overpriced popcorn or anything from the concessions stand, and this was his first, no doubt *JUST* to piss her off. We still had a laff as to what a hag like that was doing there for an action/scifi/whatever flick (only movies we ever went to see).

Something like that sorta happened to me at a public library. This was years ago, when internet wasn't as widespread as it is now. If you wanted to use the net, you signed a list and you got 1/2 an hour. Sometimes the next person doesn't show up or is late and you get a little extra time. So I'm printing up some stuff when my time is up, I look around and see a guy standing a few feet away and I ask him if he's next up to use the PC, he doesn't answer. I ask again, figuring he didn't hear me, he still doesn't answer. I figure that I got some bonus time. About 5 minutes later, he taps me on the shoulder saying that I'm using up his time, I asked him why he didn't answer me as I got my stuff together. He says, "You must be from New York..." Mind you, we're in the main branch of the NYPL. I reply, "Yeah, that's how I learned how to answer simple yes or no questions." I left before he could say anything.

Story 3 - absolutely, here in the UK it is very naughty to deduct without proper cause - I can see how the bosses would have a leg to stand on, as the team did leave before close of business, assuming their regular Friday early finishes were verbal and not in their contracts. However to deduct them an hour's pay is illegal as they only left 10 minutes early! And 15 years ago there's no way £6-ish would be 10 minutes of a dev team's salary, not even today unless it's the head-head-honcho!

Lol the "let's take this outside" trick is a known gem for bouncers to calmly get people out of premises without incident. I did the same, however in my case I just said "it's too loud in here I can't hear what you are saying (I could of course) let's pop out the back door so I can hear you better." Then slammed the door and radioed to the doormen at the front describing the guy they had to stop if he tried to come back in. The confusion on their face is priceless.

Our warehouse got broken into late night and the thieves made out with a bunch of tools. It doesn't seem like much but we make a living with them and many weren't cheap. The owner told everyone to make a list of what was taken and he replaced them all. Some of us cried. Our boss kicks himself if forgets a deal or promise made. The "ruined their business for $9" story reminds me of some drama between employees of mine. No, I did not dock their pay. We have a tip jar. Because the employee counting up the jar sucked at math, they made an error on the tip distribution. Because she didn't follow the posted instructions, she couldn't retrace her steps and find the error. The employee who had been shorted told her go ahead, leave the error, it was only four bucks he lost. Good man, right? Not so much. What he _actually_ thought was four dollars was a perfectly good reason to hate someone so viciously and relentlessly that it was a big contributor to him being fired a short time later. It's not hard to find a place like mine to work at, so the dude didn't ruin his career or anything like that. But he was willing to spend all day, every day stewing in rage, gossiping to anyone who would listen what a stupid bitch that other person was, he couldn't believe how she screwed him over, she didn't even try to find the mistake, the owners don't even care that a supervisor was stealing tips, and on and on and on, rendering himself and his workplace toxic for weeks -- over _four dollars._ People do not operate on reason. That's just a comforting lie we tell ourselves. EDIT: I hit Post and RU-vid came back with some warning that my comment might be "disrespectful" or "harmful." So it's not outright censorship, YET, but they're sniffing around its doorstep. Anyone else seeing these?

You're at a football game - you're *supposed* to jump up and down, scream and yell when your team scores! The mom actually said she usually keeps her kids from doing that? Spoil sport!

My son-in-law has always bragged about liking spicy food and having a high tolerance for it. I prefer just enough spice to taste, but not to burn the taste buds. Well, I got tired of it and finally got the opportunity to shut him up. When I was buying plants for my garden I found some ghost pepper plants. I bought them and grew the peppers, then my wife made a salsa with them. He decided he had lost a but of his tolerance for hot and spicy. I won!

Small businesses becoming worse to work at as they get bigger seems to be an all too common issue. Worse still when a small studios get sold to a bigger company that's more demanding and the whole work environment changes or the staff are thinned out or occasionally they just get shut down entirely (Rest in Peace, Rooster Teeth).

Damn a tablespoon of carolina reaper ??? Ouch that is hot. Yup, I love spicy too, but for my californian reaper sauce I use a pipette to make sure I have a stomach left after eating my food. (For those who don't know, it is in the upper section of the Scsoville scale, the only scale that measure heat (spicyness) of peppers. It scores no less as 2.2 million SHU. For comparison, Japeno scores no higher as 8.000 SHU and Cayenne maxes out at 50.000 SHU.).)
