That second stage is like a whole leg too long. Just cut out the downward vertical part. ---- Thumbnail art by MadameBerry / madameberry / nakateleeli / nakate
These stages I still mostly wing it so I will just note my observations. For the submarine and clam stage I only beat it the one time for the unlocks so I do not have too much to say beyond wondering if bringing depth bombs would have helped me Meanwhile with Crystal Colonies detaching your force to use the vulcans will deal with the missile creatures quite nicely, while the urchins can be handled with a decent wave cannon. As for the boss ideally you will want to alpha strike as much of the swarm as possible making things much more simple so long as you keep the swarm from growing too much, be it from anti-area force lasers or well aimed charge shots. I find keeping the force on the back to handle behind while using the vulcans or charge shots to shoot ahead works best. Overhead I find it a pretty easy stage in comparison to what came before. Also Gallop Force hype!
I love the cerberus and its line. its such a good ship. this was the original choose your path level i remembered. The fish boss isnt so bad. I dont remember the angler boss but i do remember the submarine stage. I think i used one of the raydome ships with the camera charge beam to kill the clams regardless of angle. or something with a big explosive sphere shot
6:30 YEAH! Go R-11B! 7:23 Funnily enough when I first unlocked the R-11B I also went to stage 5.1 needless to say, as someone who is bad a shmups it was not a fun introduction to the R-11B (Didn't stop me from brute forcing my way through the level by switching to the Concertmaster half way through then back to the Peace Maker for the end) 8:39 The clams alone had the highest kill count for me when I played through this stage. I just couldn't deal with their shot patterns no matter what. 15:33 Can confirm that the R-11B is just not very powerful bosses take a good amount of time to die. Simply put the R-11B is mostly pure crowd control and probably supposed to be treated like a step on the way to the R-11S2 rather than a fully fledged ship I imagine.
On the topic of the R-11B, the red laser deals more damage the lower your speed and at speed 1 just melts whatever your shoot it at. That said, most of my experience is with the DX version rather than the default the Peacemaker has
It's kind of like a bomb. The more you destroy things with your force (not the beams or anything) it builds up, and gives you sort of a screen-clear once full. In score attack it always starts empty so it's really hard to get it full by the end of the stage, so I haven't really been trying to build it up.
