@@jamarjohnson6077depend of your point of view....for me is the best one..... not many shotter games existed in 1989...maybe someones but not even close to R-type...
Happy to see such an awesome game is continuing the R-type series. But as a golden oldie lover myself, I don’t anything can compare with that original Giger-inspired end boss.I’m general I’m loving the sound more than the visuals. The intentionally placed designs of the original speak to me more than these polygons. There is something soft and organic about drawn graphics.
thank you so much, r-type was my favorite game by far. It was on an amstrad 6128, in the last century. thank you for reminds me all this good memories!
I played R-Type as a kid in arcades when it first came out, and still love them, but I really suck to play them far now. I'm glad for the video to see it through, glad they still keep it a beautiful game with a great soundtrack as well.
Back in 1989; R-Type was next level, watching this brings me back to that nostalgia with yet another experience of seeing just how far forward in time that this game has actually survived and continues to remain entertaining.
Some pretty dark history behind pretty much everything about the ships before they started using the whole pilot inside the ship..... Yes you read that correctly.
Even though the graphics in the original game was of lower resolution, it was much more "organic" and realistic. Although the graphics seems to be more refined due to Unreal Engine 5, it looks stiff, and as someone else commented, "boring". It could have been much better. Still, at least it's still going after all these years.
Holy smoke. I was an avid Super R-Type guy 30+ years ago and haven't really been involved with video gaming much since then. This is so true to the original series! They did a fantastic job on this!
I think this game looks easier. The last time I played Super R-Type was probably in 1995 or 1996, when I got my Playstation and mostly abdonned the SNES. If I remember correctly stage 3 was already insane ^ ^
@@asnierkishcowboy Just fyi they have a hack for Super R type now that removes the slowdown. What made that game so good was the music. This new one looks great, they nailed the weird creepy alien feel, but the music is totally off. They needed to keep the chiptune sound, and instead of sounding like anime music, it needed that weird experimental slap bass vibe Super R type had. .
A big problem with R-Type is that the background scrolls too slowly. The fast backgrounds of Thunderforce IV always added such a phenomenal 'cool factor' to the game, something that R-Type just cannot induce with these abysmally slow scrolling backgrounds.
@@longplaystudio3132 That would be amazing but these days everything has to be done with the least effort to try to get the most profit. The art of gaming has been lost.
@crtgamer2355 - I actually like the art style + the music and lighting are phenomenal! I do think many of the bosses are poorly-designed and should be improved. Also, have you played R-Type EX? It's a cool take on R-Type 1 & 2 👍
Agreed, the music is pretty boring and the parallax/speed is pretty slow, that destroys important features from the original game. Don't know if choosing the hard level that might change. 🤔
Makes it visible how perfect it already was so so many years ago. Having a PC I didn't get to play this much and instead played the more chaotic raptor, but r-type was in my cerebral tissue after a few sessions leaving an urge to play again for many years to come. Such great balancing and tempo! Ie insanely twisted shadow planet had the looks but even with the water it didn't have the same flow. (Pun intended)
I feel like there could be a show about this game. Like really, based on descriptions, each fighter model has so much personality, you instantly know the type of character that would be piloting it, and how far they'd get, how they'd meet their ends, whether they'd be allied, go crazy, sacrifice themselves, or betray the team etc. And we all know MC dies/disappears at the end and his love interest will cry because the former always happens in these games LOL.
Alright, how about completing the R-type Final 3 update for PC, the original version of this game? It's embarassing that Playstation now has the most complete version of R-type Final 2 when it wasnt even originally on the system.
Hm... So the pilots here still have their bodies in the Ship? First game was their brain pilots the ship. Like the actual brain inside the ship. The 2nd of 3rd game they only heavy a torso. One of the games after had an adult woman having her consciousness inside the body of a 14 year old girl to pilot the ship. R Type has some really dark lore. One pilot returned, only to have people point their weapons at him in fear. Because he does not know that he's already gone. He became a Bydo. Bydo were human....
This game is much worse than the original R-Type, which still remains the best ever side scrolling shootemup. With all the available technology, they managed to create a totally boring an uninspiring game...
For a "Final" game, R-Type certainly has a trilogy... But I'm glad to see the game is still going strong, despite repeating a few things. Then again, why fix what ain't broken?
Dont really like how this game makes you more control the ball and the main ship just sits there most of the time shooting missiles... and sadly the first NES sound and music can never be beaten...
Super R-Type on the SNES will always be my fave its just cone to SNES online but kts broken because it lags something awful I also love G-Darius as well have it on Switch

@@longplaystudio3132 , et al, how about you all quit being a whiners, you all build on the ashes of what was left by the end of this franchise, and you all build better franchises instead of mourning the alleged loss of a video game franchise? Duh, doing that is a good idea, am I right? Do you all really think that people quit making platform/adventure/action games after Pitfall II released? The answer to that question is an obvious no, because if people had thought as you all do now, then we would not have gotten things like Pac-Land, Super Mario Brothers, Sonic the Hedgehog, Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Land, Kirby, Tomba, Klonoa, Rayman, Castlevania/Akumajou Drakula, Metroid, and, to lesser extents, The Great Giana Sisters and Squish 'Em Sam, among many, many imitators, and then that all led to the whole Metroidvania sub-genre of video games, as well as to open world games. My point is this...a. video game franchises are not dead if we allow them to live, b. we build on the foundations of the good video game franchises, c. we learn to build better than the video games, as well as their franchises that came before the new video games, as well as their franchises, d. we learn to not forget the past, e. we also ensure that the past has a part in the present, and f. we ensure that what is built in the past, as well as the present, also stays alive in the future. Nothing is ever dead so as long as it is not forgotten, and so as long as people ensure that it remains alive.
@@paxhumana2015 OK. Point made. Still you fail to understand that its hard to see things go and that people have their past lives and childhood memories anchored to what once was. I can also add that what once was, is great. Some change is good, but some change isn't, nor is it necessary. Many feel this way and Im sure you do too, under some other context. Moving forward is necessary, but we still go back and its for damn good reason. You have those ( in this day and age ) who sit around running their mouths calling people " nostalgia pukes ". While they go around emulating the style of 80s greatness In just about everything they do, to hair, clothing, gaming, music and movies. Basically saying, its Ok when we build off of your generations greatness, but we dont want to hear you talk about it. My opinion of that perspective is real nasty. Who the fuck are they, or you ( for that matter ) to tell us to " stop whinnying " ? About a time that pioneered and laid down the foundation of everything that you know today? The current Generation reeks of Jealously and envy. A generation that has produced nothing but, shit posting, aggravation, resentment and disrespect. Its no wonder we older gamers hold fast to our great games and other things ( back then ) that made us happy. " How about you all quit being whiners " How about you shutindafukup?
"Wow, my new video game, such a powerfull performance. Its a ps5! The game: - sry guys, I use to love sonic wings back at the day, but confess this is funny 😂
Least it doesn't have those stupid codes like the last one that you put in if you were an influencer or some crap like that for special items you couldn't get normally. So I'm glad they ditched that crap
