The R142 uses Alstom's Propulsion used on the R160 and R160A (running on the (C) (J) (Z) (F) (E) (L) (M) and (Q) lines) and the R142A uses Bombardier's Propulsion also used on the R143 (running on the (L) line today)

@MATTHEW HERNANDEZ Well idk, The R142As are Old, The R188s were newly Built, Some R142A that they didn't have the HVAC and CBTC, so 7211-7590 Cars Had to be Upgraded to the New R188 Unit, 7899-7936 Cars were Newly Built too to Expand the Converted R142As from 5 Car Sets to 6 Car Sets, R142s & R142As were Built to Replace the Redbird Train on all lines... geez, Why can't they just accept the rolling stock that they already got?

No, they all use standard gauge, and that's why numbered trains can run on lettered trains' tracks. It's just the train car's width that's different.

A division (IRT) can run on B division (BMT/IND) because they're narrower, but don't because of the gap between the train and the platform. B Div cannot run on A Div because they're too wide for A Div platforms and too long for A Div curves. But, both use standard gauge tracks st 56.5" wide.
