R142As Running in 6 Line Service (2007-2013) 

The R142as will be back on the Pelham line real soon when the brand new R262s comes for Cbtcs however every time when I ride the R62as on the Pelham line I think about the Redbirds and the R142s from the Jerome line 4 line and the main R142as from the Pelham line

Ah so that’s why I wondered I never heard the “STAND CLEAR THE CLOSING DOORS PLS” line anymore from the 6 when I was a kid, the train got replaced

And now the 6 trains are filled with the R62as however the 4/5/6/S trains are definitely gonna have brand new R262s and CBTCS one day they will eventually get there just like the 7/L/E/F/R lines Those lines now have CBTCS HOOKED up

I miss riding the R142as 6 trains to its not the same without the R142as on the Pelham line don't get me wrong i do respect the R62as back on the Pelham line which is 100% true and the Flushing line having CBTCS we all like the mix epipments on the Pelham line R142as and R62as on the Pelham line bring the fun back we know that the mosholu Jerome avenue 4 line do not have no CBTCS HOOKED up nowhere in the Bronx or Brooklyn

Those were the good old days who knows meaby there come back bigger and better than ever

Especially on the red ones (Redbirds R29-36ml & 36wf) too & they were the very best as well

We all respect the R142/as on the Pelham line and the R62as back on the Pelham line I truly love both equipments on the Pelham line now the Redbirds are gone now I have no other choice to love the R62as R142as on the Pelham line However the 4/5/6 trains does not have no CBTCS HOOKED up in sight yet

To be honest they definitely need to bring the fun back on the Pelham line again just have one or two sets of the R142as on the Pelham line until the brand new R262s comes real soon for Cbtcs

Bring back the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated line so this way they could definitely use the R62AS on the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated line when they start delivering the R262/As open and close ways.

@@solo6058 No. The fleet assignments should stay as they are now, but with 15 R142As reassigned for the 42nd Street Shuttle, while the R62As can add to the existing 6 line fleet of 435 R62As for service increases. Also, the Flushing Line has CBTC now. Aside from work trains, R62As can’t run on Flushing anymore.

@@soraforpresident5209 It was just a rumor over on the forums. 24 R262s are already allocated to the renovated 42nd Street Shuttle. They will be in 6-car sets, so 1 6-car train for both tracks with 2 spare units in the yard.

@Anthony Z nah that would be bad for the 4 train, they did that with the NQW and R trains by swapping the r46s and r160s which ruins the NQW lines but benefited the R line which sucked, but this time both the 4 and 6 aren't much better and in need so it wouldn't do them much help. Maybe they could give the 6 train back it's r142as in return for the r62s, but I think it's best to wait for the r262s

The R142as is on the Flushing line for Cbtcs And the rest of the R142as were sent to the Jerome avenue 4 line That's the reason why we see all the R62as back on the Pelham line for now

The Pelham line wasn't ready for Cbtcs Only the Flushing line was ready for Cbtcs That's the reason why we see all the R62as back on their main line nothing doesn't last forever We just got to deal with the R62as on the Pelham line until the brand new R262s arrives i don't see nothing wrong with the R62as on the Pelham line it is very reliable just like the old Redbirds

Or we can just keep the assignments as they are now, but give 15 R142As from the 4 line not to the 6, but to the 42nd Street Shuttle for 6-car sets until the R262 cars arrive. It’s sure as hell better than letting the 6 keep the R142As.

Basically back then when lexington was 100% R142 & R142A. The (4)(6) would swap R142As like no tomorrow.

The only new car thats coming to IRT (A division) is the R262, thats going to replace R62(a).

You know the R62AS was supposed to be on the 4 Jerome Ave 4 and the R142/As from the 4 Jerome Ave 4 was supposed be stayed on the Pelham 6 line.

@Elijah broomes Nope they belong to the 6, though one R142A can run on the 6 line if it carried no riders. Also, the 2 and 5 do not need R62As, except for any weekend changes, as the two routes share the Flatbush Avenue station during weekdays. As such, NTT trains will need to be on the 2 and 5 to allow for the signs to be switched rapidly at the often congested terminal. However, there could be R62 or R62As on the 2 if the 5 line simply stopped serving the Nostrand Avenue line altogether. Rather, 5 train service would be rerouted via Eastern Pkwy Express to Utica Avenue. This would ensure the 2 route would be the sole service to Flatbush Avenue. However, this may not result in R62As on the 2, but rather an extra 20 or so R142s to the 2 to accommodate increased service to Flatbush Avenue (15 trains per hour instead of 9-10 per hour as is today). There’s also a possibility that some R142 cars could go to the 6 line when the R262s arrive. Car 7021 already has the R62A-esque LED indicators for local and express service.

This is why Westchester yard should of kept the R142As that they had left over, in 2018 on the last few days 7600-7610 was on the (6) that set was clean. Now it looks so dirty on the (4).

They just moved to the 7 to put CBTC on the Flushing Line.

@Elijah broomes It’s not the most stupidest thing ever. Plus it made more sense to put them back on the 6 (the LED indicators on the R62As foreshadowed this move). As a compromise, they should temporarily take 15 R142As and reassign them not to the 6, but to the 42nd Street Shuttle. Reconfigure them into 6-car units and have them run there until the R262s arrive.
