The R36S is a nice starter handheld. It has a nice display screen and great performance in that it would play a good amount of N64, PSP, and Dreamcast games. Ark OS is simple to use. But it has its challenges, the loud trigger buttons, false diagonals on D-pad. But again for a $30 device this is a good starter device.
I got mine for like 42 a few months ago, absolutely love it. Have not had one issue. Performance has also greatly increased with software updates. The only two things I dislike are the back buttons and battery meter

I have this, and yes for the price its amazing. I first got the Odin 2 Pro and then the R36S and now the RG405V. Think I have all my bases cover, Odin for home, RG405V for a change from horizontal for home, and R36S when I go out to like appt. Cheers!
Oh hey! I got the same color R36S as yours😃 I got the R36S and I'm gaming happily on it. Sure I mostly play Gameboy and game gear games on it, but from tine to time, I play games from different systems on it. Oh yeah. And calling it Gaming Console is just so generic and vague, so I just call it R36S, cos that's what I can google search for details or guide😆
I have both the r36s and the rg35xxh and a good OS is so important for me that I end up spending more time on the r36s just because of arkos especially compared to the options we have for the rg35xx h
@@VladNerd I do use batocera on it but it still feels unpolished and un intuitive for some reason especially because how differently batocera and arkos handle retroarch and its settings
You should do the button upgrade/snip and update the firmware bro. It makes it much better!!!! It has been the budget king for the last year. Porting games on it is awesome. The lack of bt or wifi is its downfall but the screen and power is actually awesome for what it is
@@VladNerd r36s scene is big and has almost no good coverage of it, i think you can do well to enjoy the momentum its been having with all the ali and tiktok sales of it now. people are desperate for good info about it, especially over time as updates go on
there are a lot of little mods to fix these issues like adding a vibration motor, hall effect joysticks, separating the face buttons, adjusting the dpad's pressure, adding a bt or wifi dongle internally and replacing the buttons, switches and speaker. For people that like to tinker with electronics, it's heaven on earth! A friend of mine did all of those on his and it looks and feels fantastic
Here, the difference between the r36s and rg35xx h is a little less than 7 USD so it comes down to what one wants (design & hardware) ended up with another rg35xx h to prep as a gift to a friend. I still think the hardware is better on the rg35xx h and overall worth the small difference in price.
@@hssinashowz9933 I'm in the Philippines right now, there's an online store called Shopee and the rg35xx h is around 50 USD while the r36s is around 43 USD. TikTok shopping here has generally the same price difference but sometimes if you're lucky you could get a discount voucher to lower the price as much as 20 USD less, only my landlord got that, I'm not too lucky, told her to get her kid the rg35xx h too.
Dear Lord Nerd, I had two R36s and a RG35XX-H in my hands to try and both R36s had a much brighter and overall better screen, did you notice such difference? I prefer RG35XX-H ergonomics though overall and it's even better with a cheap grip.
Yup, the screen on the R36s is pretty fine, especially considering how dirt cheap it is. The H won for me though, especially because it's a horizontal boi. ❤️
That's literally the best part of unboxing something! Kudos to the Steam Deck in this respect. Valve did some flipping sorcery to make the "new electronics" smell persist for quite a long time with their units. 😆
