R4: Ridge Racer Type 4[a] (Ridge Racer Type 4 in Europe) is a racing video game developed and published by Namco for the PlayStation. It is the fourth title in the Ridge Racer series and the last to be released for the PlayStation. It was later re-released on the PlayStation Network in 2011 and pre-loaded on the PlayStation Classic which was released on December 3, 2018.[1] It is the first Ridge Racer series game on the PlayStation to use Gouraud shading on polygons.

This game was a revolution on ps1, it was already smooth, new emulators help it a lot, looks like a 1999-2000 pc game, the other ps1 racing was like 1997 for lighting.

Emulators that upscale the resolution of games from those era for PS1/N64/Dreamcast make them look fantastic. Ridge Racer 64 on Project64 and Ridge Racer 1 on Bleemcast! also look fantastic. One thing that sucks though is the crazy pop-in can't be fixed via emulation without having access to the original source code. If Namco wanted to they could fix the pop-in and change the framerate to 60fps for a remastered port.

A.I is getting close to where it will be able to render games in a variation of styles. Just give it a prompt: Ridge Racer Type 4 with the graphics of Unreal engine 5 and enjoy.

このカセット未だに持ってる。ステージ5の短いコースからは1位でないと次のステージに進めないからめちゃくちゃ苦戦した。最終ステージのBGMは最高の走りをしようと自然と鼓舞される曲で最高でした

Yes great (love Ridge racer too), the key settings are the internal resolution up to 8 or 9x, and widescreen hack, and perspective correction (while the original ps1 doesn't have). and others are up to your preference.

Yeah, but the difference between you and him, is that when he's done with Ridge Racer he can play a modern AAA game at high - ultra settings at high framerates, your 10 year old laptop can't do that.
