A frame drum tutorial introducing six variations of the 7-beat Bulgarian dance rhythm, Račenica (Ratchenitsa), presented by Canadian percussionist, Ken Shorley. #framedrum #drumlesson #kenshorley #bulgarianrhythm #handdrumming
You are the first Westerner I see on RU-vid who actually got it. The fluidity in Bulgarian music leads to great freedom for improvisation. It's what adds up to the playfulness between the musicians and the dancers. On a side note, I have noticed that people get it easier when they see the dancing on the rhythms, especially non-choreographed dancing. It's like Baroque music, you can learn but it's mainly when you see it danced that you get it. Great video, top notch 👌
Thank you for this comment. It means a lot! It's true about the dance. I learned to dance a basic račenica at the same time that I learned the rhythm on the tupan!
Really appreciate and enjoy these videos. Racenica is a beautiful dance; learning the 7/8 rhythm on the frame drum is a lot of fun. It really surprises me in a pleasant way to see foreigners that study Bulgarian dance rhythms and music. I would love to see you making a tutorial for the Bulgarian Bucimis rhythm 15/16. That would be a blast. God bless you and keep creating great content. Cheers! 👏
Wonderful video! This inspired me to order a Remo (14”) - yes, I’m broke - to begin learning. The information in your videos is invaluable. Best wishes and stay safe!
