चारुकेशी जैसी एक तो अत्यधिक् कर्णप्रिय राग - दूसरे बड़े आकर्षक धीरज और स्थिर-चित्त से सितार पर उसकी ऐसी प्रस्तुति, वाह उस्ताद शुजात खान , अलाप और जोड़ - दोनों ही अंग संतुलित और मधुर हो कर उभरे हैं...जापान में इस हिन्दुस्तानी वाद्य प्रस्तुति के लिए अपनी वादन शैली को आलाप अंग में अधिक पूर्वोचित. विनम्र और संवेदनापूर्ण बनाने की पहल इनके एक अच्छे परफौर्मर होने का प्रमाण भी है...वहीं झाला में इनका बजाया अंश, वाद्य की 'तंत्र' संभावना और कलाकार की तैयारी दोनों को दर्शाता है- द्रुत में तकनीक के प्रदर्शन के मोह में कहीं कहीं रागदारी बहुत लाउड हुई है - जो इस राग का मूल स्वभाव तो शायद नहीं ही है- पर तन्त्रकारी अंग की बनावट और वाद्य-वादन पर नियंत्रण की कला भी तो दिखानी होती है न, 26.20 के बाद युवा तबला संगतकार अकरम खान की उपस्थिति को महसूस करना भी अच्छा अनुभव रहा...... पर उस्ताद जी को बजाने के साथ साथ गाने की जो अदम्य ललक है- उससे निकट भविष्य में श्रोता को छुटकारा मिलना मुमकिन नहीं जान पड़ रहा....शायद यही उन जैसे कई वादकों का का शगल है.....तबला संगत भी बहुत अच्छी रही है - यथावसर उन्होंने सीखी हुई विद्या भी दिखलाई है - जापान के लिए ये दूसरे पूरब की भेंट कही जा सकती है !

Divine inspiration! This whole concert was so inspired! The final part he sings Bhavani Dhayani, a goddess Durga or Bhairavi in the Bhairavi raag and it also sounds and feels as divine as divine can be! He is one of the central lighthouses of hindustani music for sure! This Charukeshi is a very difficult to control kind of raag, it makes you want to rock it all, but khan saheb has it under his command, he does the rasa of the raag a pure treatment and takes one step or note at its time. His concerts are almost always a big lesson in music. He honors his ancestors so much! This is so beautiful!

THAT WAS THE "BEST" ALAP JOD JHALA IN CHARUKESHI THAT I HAVE EVER HEARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .....................................Please forgive me if I am wrong because its my personal opinion that if Ustad Shujaatji could have given us performances of his sitar play only,without his vocal , I am sure he would have been "the best" and foremost Sitar player of modern times. ....No doubt he sings fascinatingly,but for that he should have given a separate performance of his vocal show only. This ultimately becomes neither a vocal performance nor a sitar recital,yes in totality a great heavenly performance that is indeed awesome to listen.
This Alap is outstanding, indeed. I never thought a Sitar performance (i.e. Alap) of Charukeshi can come close to the eternal Charukeshi of late Nikhil Banerjee.
He plays in the vocal style, you can't ask him not to do what he does! Don't get me wrong, but I guess it's all in the package. I get what you mean, though.
