Bazm e khas presents Raag Hamsadhwani and its Bandish by Adnan Khan on sitar and Zia Khan on tabla
Raag Hamsadhvani (हम्सध्वनि) also known as Raag Hansadhwani (हंसध्वनि), is a raga in Carnatic music. It is an audava rāgam, means the pentatonic scale since it uses only five notes and not all seven notes. It belongs to Bilawal Thaat. Borrowed from the Carnatic Music, Hamsadhvani is also extensively used in Hindustani Classical music. This Raag is believed to be invented by Ramaswamy Dikshithar, father of Muthuswamy(Mudduswamy) Dikshitar and later proposed to Hindustani music by Ustad Aman Ali Khan of the Bhendibazaar Gharana.
Raag Hamsadhwani fills the soul with positive energy and a sense of well-being. It is sung in the evening hours, after sunset and lends itself beautifully to a moderate to buoyant and cheerful tempo.
There are many kritis in praise of Lord Ganesha in this Raag. It is also known as Vighneshwara raag. Raag Hamsadhwani is considered as an evening Raag.
This baithak was held at the initiative of Ved Gupta as a part of bazm e Khas foundation live concerts.
The idea behind this upload is to preserve this collection of great music for all music lovers and students of Hindustani music.
