“Kaisi hai holi machai aaj” (कैसी है होली मचाई आज) is based on Raag Kafi, thaat Kafi. Raag Kafi is the principal raag of its thaat. The hymn is in ‘Deepchandi / Dipchandi Taal’.
Type of raag Kafi is Sampurna-Sampurna. In the Aroha/Ascent and Avaroha /Descent all notes are shuddha except the note ‘E’ and ‘B’.
So the Aroha and Avaroha is as follows:
C D Eb(D#)- F- G- A- Bb(A#)- C* : C*-Bb- A- G F -Eb D - C
Pakad: Sa-Sa, Re-Re, Ga- Ga, Ma-Ma, Pa
(C-C, D-D, D#-D#, F-F, G)
Note: The ‘Pakad’ is different in different books but the basic is the same. The notes are same.
Vadi note is G and Samvadi note is C.
