Brilliance and modesty are a wonderful combination . To hear this level of profundity is rare, to hear it delivered so humorously and modestly is remarkable.

A moment in time, the Blessing of the day of the Sabbath and keeping it Holy. A wonderful and a very spiritual and uplifting speech.

So beautiful to hear him speak. He wrote with such warmth and eloquence, and he transmits those same qualities when he talks--and if you'll notice, he insists on treating the event more like a conversation with the audience than a lecture. Thank you for the upload!

"The solution of mankind's most vexing problem will not be found in renouncing technical civilization, but in attaining some degree of independence of it. In regard to external gifts, to outward possessions, there is only one proper attitude--to have them and to be able to do without them. On the Sabbath we live, as it were, independent of technical civilization: we abstain from any activity that aims at remaking or reshaping the things of space. Man's royal privilege to conquer nature is suspended on the seventh day." We need the Sabbath to calm the earth and our relentless pursuit of wealth and profligate use of natural resources....

Ariel Goldberg that was a really great upload; I think Herschel's speech on time is life changing! Jewdiasm teaches being, 'A religion of time' that "Every moment is a gate opportunity; Not all moments are alike". We must not only use our time wisely, yet we must make the relevance of the time holy! That was the message of the breaking of the tablets Moses brought down. That was the relevance of Herschel marching next to Martin Luther King to inspire him. It is that moment made holy, and that particular time changed the world. Herschel said, "Judaism is a religion of time, it tells you what you are to do at the moment." If Herschel coached Martin Luther King, what is he inspiring the rest of us to do with this speech? Which one of us now, after hearing this, will step forward to take the time in this moment and do something holy with before we get any older? I think Herschel's intent, speaking in a synogogue is deep. We get older and we can lose the sharp edge of opportunity that is relevant in the holiness of this particular time that G-d has given us to accomplish what we are supposed to do with this space to make the moment holy, significant, and relevant. G-d created the Shabbos in the beginning because of it's relavance that certain times must make life holy and are relavant to mankind. This man is deep. I listened to some of his other speeches. He is not giving us a little 'fluff' rather he is relaying something deep. He is a heavy philosopher. Thank you Ariel so much for taking your time to share this. It is incredible that you took your time which is a commodity, and spent that time to inspire and uplift us. I got a lot out of Herschel's speech. Thank you! I hope that the one that can really change things in our generation hears this speech and is motivated. May those of us that can bring the small footsteps of Moshiac do what we can like those that marched along the side of MLK.. May the world be merited to the coming of Moshiac. May Hashem with an outstretched arm redeem all of us in the world with His magestic love, peace, and beauty. And where is the last 10 minutes of this, Ariel? LOL. The last ten minutes are not there!

Heschel is an inspiration. As a Christian, I've never been the same since I came in contact with his ideas.
