My only problem with the good Rabbi, is that if I apply the same logic to Judaism...... Im gonna end up with babylonian, Egyptian, Greek, Persian Canaanite influences. Whats original about Judaism? Even circumcision predates Israel. However i appreciate his ideas and scholarship.

During Solomons time people were worshipping all kinds of gods, which were later combined to be 1. Yet traditions and rituals of these old gods were re-used. And we find the same rituals in earlier Canaanite areas. Even the pottery style is the same, which you wouldn't suspect if the Jews came from Egypt. They were basically the same people, with the southern part adopting monotheism at some point. Which caused a civil war leading to demonizing and propaganda. At some point they even developed their own origins story to distance themselves even further from the north.

(Ancient Near Eastern cosmology) 2) Why does god support slavery, 3) Why does god have abortion in Numbers chapter 5 as the bitter water test? 4) why does god think rabbits chew the cud, when they actually don't chew the cud? 5) how can cutting stripes in sticks produce stripped baby goats? 6) How did Noah fit all those animals on that little boat and how did they breathe with just 1-18X18 inch window and where did he store all the food for 150 days? 7) how did god make the shadow go backwards up Ahaz's stair steps? did he stop the planet from spinning and rotate it backwards a few degrees? 8) how did god stop the sun in the sky so Joshua could get a victory, did god stop the planet from spinning to give Joshua noon time sun for an entire day? And in light of question 7 the Bible says this was a one time occurrence. 9) Why is Israel an inheritance given to Yahweh from El the most High? Isn't this polytheism? 10) Where does the Noahide concept come from, because it's not spelled out in Tanakh? It's nice to hear about Christianity in its context. But Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are all departures from what Celsus calls the Eternal Doctrine, meaning all of the native religions of the world's nations, i.e. Hinduism, Shinto, Romuva, Hellenism, Khemetism, etc. All Abrahamic traditions are impious departures of this kind.

The Amazing Atheist has expressed a belief in lucky numbers and seeing repeating numbers which he fully admits is irrational. My atheist boyfriend has had experiences he still believes may have been with spirits. So no, intelligence and education do not inoculate from irrational and even superstitious beliefs because everyone has them. It's evolutionary and part of what makes us human.

I agree with Rav Singer on pretty much everything and have for many years...with the exception of how he views the Adam and Eve story. I agree with him that Adam and Eve's "sin" doesn't or didn't plague their descendants...i.e. Original sin. I don't agree when he calls the Adam and Eve situation a "Sin". The reason I say this is simple: The Torah itself is the foremost authority on what a sin is and is not. Without the Torah, there's literally no such thing as sin because we would not be aware of such. With this said, the Torah doesn't call this situation a sin. The first sin the Torah mentions is Cain killing Abel. Secondly, Adam and Eve did not know the difference between Good or Evil. Therefore, they did not know it was "sin" to disobey G-D before eating the fruit.
Now if we only had someone from say Sumerian religion to refute Judaism. All religions have their internal traditions. Gnosticism proports that a nonspiritual god created the world almost analogous to Enlil. Their is a enlightened god that reaches out to men to save them, sort of like Enki in the flood myth. Ancestral worship was quite common around Jericho in an ancient world, Natufian provides some of the best examples of it, the whole idea of household gods is a form of ancestral worship. All these things existed in Israel up to about 500 BC. Sin belief goes all the way back to the religion of Ur. The law of Naram-Sin is probably synonymous with Noahide law, but I seriously doubt Canaanites of patriarchs were familiar with the words and talk that p!ssed off Enlil (The Sumerian god of the flood). If I was god, I would want man to reach a certain level and then know me, by knowing me they would fulfill their destiny, that’s it, by knowing me as I carry so do they. I agree with most of the other comments here in that Rabbi Tovia Singer does an excellent job of exposing the inconsistencies of Christianity, but he seems unable to use the same critical apparatus towards his own religion of Judaism - and I speak as a Jewess who converted to Judaism from Christianity in 2003, but I attempt to remain critical of Judaism as well, whereas Rabbi Tovia Singer seems to become rather dogmatic and even “preachy” when he strays from his critical analysis of Christianity and mentions in contrast Judaism. First, before I mention any criticism, let me emphasize that I think that his work as an anti-missionary is important, as I have mentioned worse where that a major stimulus for me converting from Christianity to Judaism involved my purchasing and reading The Real Messiah? A Jewish Response to Missionaries by Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan in 2000 when I visited the Holy Land, despite the protests of my fellow Evangelicals at the time. A couple of examples may prove insightful into his bias: First, while it is true that modern Jewish orthodoxy, of which branch of Judaism Rabbi Tovia Singer derives, teaches volition versus determinism, the issue is really philosophical not religious, and Judaism at the time of Paul involved the traditional three Greek schools: Pythagoreans being the determinists, Epicureans being the volitionists, and Stoics being the moderates. Furthermore, Josephus clearly identified the Essenes as the Jewish version of the Pythagoreans, the Sadducees as the Jewish version of the Epicureans, and the Pharisees as the Jewish version of the Stoics (e.g. Jewish Antiquities 15:10:4 and 18:1:2). The Pharisees, from whence Rabbinical Judaism later arose, were the moderates between strict determinism and strict agency (i.e. free will - e.g. Mishnah: Avoth 3:19), but they were also determinists who deeply opposed the Epicurean doctrine of agency as heresy, and therefore the Hebrew word for Epicurean in the Mishnah (e.g. Mishnah: Avoth 2:19), אפיקורוס, was later interpreted generally as “heretic” by the Babylonian Jews who spoke Aramaic not Hebrew. Regarding the issue, see Aphrodite and the Rabbis: How the Jews adapted Roman Culture to create Judaism as we know It by the critical Jewish rabbi scholar Dr. Burton L. Visotzky. Second, he attempts to minimize the influence of Judaism amongst the Nazarenes and the Ebionites, and even the Jewishness of Paul. There does appear to be a strong Hellenistic influence of Paul, especially in regard to the mystery cults such as Dionysus and Eleusis, et cetera, in regard to a Christ mysticism (i.e. the “in him” references made by Rabbi Tovia Singer), which probably arose from Paul’s own practice of Merkavah mysticism (e.g. 2 Corinthians 12:1-4 - see also Gershom Scholem: Jewish Gnosticism, Merkavah Mysticism, and Talmudic Tradition, pp. 16-17). Nonetheless, there is credible academic scholarship regarding the authentic Jewishness of Paul as well, such as the teachings of Dr. David Flusser at Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. Indeed, one of his former students Dr. Brad H. Young wrote an excellent treatise on the topic entitled Paul the Jewish Theologian: A Pharisee among Christians, Jews, and Gentiles, and although being a Christian apologist, his book has some credible insights.
I might also add, of course, the absurdity of presuming a literal Adam and Eve or if Noah in the Book of Genesis, but that is of course a given regarding critical academic scholarship, and it is understandable in this context why Derek Lambert didn’t press him on this issue, since it is not applicable to the topic. Yet, I would comment that Rabbi Tovia Singer’s comments upon Gehenna (i.e. Hell) are problematic, although they represent the opinion of most of Jewish orthodoxy, but not necessarily Jewish ultra-orthodoxy, and especially the Chasidim or the Kabbalists such as myself, since the Sepher Zohar often uses Hell as a warning (e.g. 1:238b). Furthermore, there is even difference of opinion amongst orthodox rabbis regarding Hell. For example, Rabbi Zvi Weiss, the orthodox rabbi who taught me Kabbalah when I was at the infamous KIDS drug rehab circa 1990-1995, was a Kabbalist himself, and therefore he held a rather strict but mystical opinion of Hell, adopting the hyper-literal hermeneutic of the Zohar, and therefore arriving at a rather mythological interpretation of it. Rabbi Tovia Singer was very clear that he believes in a literal Hell more similar than disimilar to the Christian version thereof, although he affirms that Judaism (meaning modern Jewish orthodoxy) doesn’t refer to it as a scare tactic for converts like Christianity, and he emphatically stated that Adolf Hitler is undoubtedly in Hell today. In comparison and contrast, my former rabbi, an orthodox rabbi of a conservative congregation in the greater Philadelphia, PA area, Rabbi David Novoseller, claimed that Adolf Hitler was in Hell, but that the punishment in Hell is temporary not eternal, since “the anger of HaShem is but a moment” (Psalm 39:5), and therefore he would often speculate that the more severe punishment of Adolf Hitler was maybe a few years or so, if the normal punishment of a righteous person is only for a moment!

No dramatic, end time conflict where dark powers array themselves against the forces of light,... where good prevails over evil ushering in the promise of a MESSIANIC era, in which things are 'set right' and peace and harmony is restored and God reigns supreme. There was no resurrection of the dead belief where the neshema (soul) is restored to its physical body and where the holy temple is also physically restored (along with the resumption of the sacrificial system). These new conceptions were all the pungent flavorings of Zoroastrianism grafted onto and mixed into the porridge of Jewish theological ideas. But wait! The religious recipe was far from being fully baked,... more ingredients were yet to be added to the cake mix. You see, the Greeks conquer Judea in 332 - 110 B.C.E. and then, the Romans conquer Judea after them (63 B.C. - 636 A.D.). Indeed, we find in Judaism, a veritable smorgasbord of supernatural ponderings that shaped, and guided and influenced Jewish ideas about their God and the world to come and through the lens of this historical context, I find myself becoming aware of an unsettling truth. God did not deliver fixed Jewish theological positions in the form of a singular clearly defined holy dispatch from, on high. Not at all. These ideas, evolved OVER TIME! They too were formed & shaped, not by God, but by MEN whose ideas were formed and shaped by all the theological ruminations Jewish thought leaders were exposed to in the great cauldron of speculative supernatural splendor that animates the human imagination. Those who think the secret recipe was provided complements of a singular God at a singular moment in history (on Mount Sinai) have hid their faces from historical reality. The religion evolved and religious ideas, rather resembled a highly malleable piece of clay, shaped, pressed, stretched and rolled under the powerful ideas God pondering editors encountered in all the different places they find themselves marinating in. The proof of this is found in all the different cupcakes on offer in the biblical bakery of belief. In Judaism, we find the Essenes, Kairites, Sadducees and Pharisees... early Christianity (Ebionites) were not some hermetically sealed theological entity separated from Judaism, -not at all, early Christianity IS JUDAISM. They (like their messiah) were Jews and, as Jews, they embraced their Jewish identities, observed their Jewish holidays and observed Jewish laws ... just with new, updated insights that encompassed their exposure to ideas that evolved to include a syncretism of the God ideas they found themselves swimming in. And, surprise, surprise, we find in this early Jewish sect, surrounding the person of Yeshuah, a range of different beliefs as they sought to define meanings and get a sense of who and what they were and what they stood for... different Jewish communities that followed Yeshuah embrace different testimonies -(as many a 40 or more) before the disparate ideas were distilled into a more consolidated view through the efforts of the Pagan Roman emperor, Constantine. These later iterations would dismantle much of its earlier, Jewish theological doctrine in favor of more palatable ingredients (found in the Roman theological pantries) provoking Rabbi Singer's sentiment that, "Rome didn't convert to Christianity, Christianity converted to Rome!" And, at this point, the point when the new Jewish sect had morphed into a religion where many ideas central to the Jewish faith (like the oneness of God) was removed, the Jewish people by and large removed themselves from it, rejecting, by and large, the new theology that became, theologically speaking, a bridge too far as the Church moved on to focus on a much larger target, gentile subscriptions. The reality of the, very mortal processing of religious ideas is lost to believers who embrace their stories at close range but for those who are not tethered by deep emotional restraints, who are free to pull back and view the subject at a revealing distance and altitude, from these vantage points, the full spectrum of historical context (with all their influences) is exposed; we can more easily 'see' and tease out all the threads, connections, and engagement with the 'outside' world, we can see more clearly all the ideas and influences that are added to the mix with a type of clinical objectivity fundamentalism, (including Rabbi Singer) is not permitted to acknowledge. As an atheist I enjoy listening to the rabbi, his explanations of the Jewish bible and his views of the New Testament are fascinating, but ultimately I feel he has an elevated view of the role of Judaism in bringing god to the rest of the world. Since Christianity claims to be axiomatic with Judaism in the sense that it claims the identical God with 'new material' and ideas that dovetails onto the former, it gives the former religion the right and opportunity to expose all the reasons why the new faith is false or inconsistent with the former; I have no problem with that. I don't believe in the faith claims of Judaism because, (like every other faith claim), they fall short in their burden of proof arguments, however, let's say I'm critiquing a work of fiction (Harry Potter, for example) and in Harry Potter certain mystical concepts and ideas are presented by the author as truthful in the fictional world she has created. [i.e., Character A made a magic purple cupcake all by himself without help from ANYONE.] If, many years later, a new author comes along who is attracted to the original story and writes "Harry Potter Part 2" making the claim that it's simply a continuation of the first, it makes itself vulnerable to valid criticism if and when the 'new' book presents concepts and ideas that expose serious conflicts with the original, especially if the new material, 'changes', 'distorts' or invents new material that he claims seamlessly fits into the original author's vision. [Remember when Character A made a magic purple cupcake, all by himself? Well, don't believe him, he relied on character B to help him out]. In this way, a conflict and contradiction has been exposed that is difficult to reconcile. Judaism is just as easy to disprove. They are really polytheists as the gods EL (Elohim) and YA (Yahweh) are different gods. The also believe in minor gods (angels) that had their own minor cults all over the Levant. Judaism went through the same process of mythification of its main characters (aka Moses) and forgery / rejigging of their sacred texts (check how the earlier prophets reinterpret failed prophecies from previous prophets). Christianity was basically the product of a Judaic sect that was trying to reinterpret a bunch of failed prophecies in view of the utter destruction brought upon Judea by the Roman Empire. Of course the smoking gun is that the main staples in the Torah are rip off versions of Sumerian, Akkadian and Egyptian stories.

The similarities are so strong that often the grammar is exactly the same, and the cognate words are maybe a consonant or two different, but recognizable. Most of the difference seems to often be in the vowels. If Biblical Hebrew were written in the Arabic script, I feel like I'd be able to read it with little difficulty. Such a fun language!

I have a huge problem with the way Christian theologians interpret the New Testament. What the Rabbi is talking about aligns more with my understanding of Christianity. Hello teacher's great lessons.i have a question.Jesus read from the scrolls ,at the end he quoted he came to give sight to the blind, witch is different from the Hebrew. Could it be different words but mean the same thing , For and example there's a verse ,I was blind but now I see ,I was in darkness but now I ve come into the marvelous light . So it could mean being ignorant and being thought now I know. Just my view. 🤔 Great Work.

When you say that there's nothing like "Christ in you" in Tanakh, I think you're being a little disingenuous. There's plenty of "The Spirit of the Lord" being in people or sort of "silently guiding" the narrative in Tanakh, which could definitely be seen as somewhat parallel to the "Christ in you." Don't get me wrong, I love watching Rabbi Singer tear the New Testament to shreds with ease, but I have caught him on a couple of occasions giving Judaism a bit more rope than he probably should. I know he just wants to highlight how radical Christianity is in comparison, but we're all seeking truth here. :)
I can't believe he goes on and on about the Scandinavian depiction of Jesus as if that has any basis for how it can't be true. Who gives a fuck, cultures do this sort of thing all the time. The Buddha is an example of this. If you go to India, he is depicted looking Indian. If you go to Japan the Buddha is depicted looking Japanese. If you go to Cambodia, he looks Cambodian, if you go to China, he looks Chinese. If you go to Tibet or Nepal, he looks Tibetan. Going back to Jesus for a minute, if you go to Ethiopia, they have a black Jesus painting, and believe Jesus was of African origin and not middle eastern at all. Cultures do this sort of thing, so what if you approach some black guy and make it into a joke that Jesus is portrayed as a long flowing hair with no split ends and a beard that makes even the most loyal hipster jealous and skin so pale, that if he were in the middle east would probably have died of skin cancer rather than being crucified. Such a dumb argument.

The idea of an afterlife, resurrection, the oral torah, eternal reward and punishment...all current Jewish beliefs that have virually no basis in the written Hebrew scriptures. Most of which emerge only after the Babylonian captivity. Why not question the rabbi on the validity of the Miracles in the Hebrew Bible? The Parting of the Red Sea the miraculous feeding with Manna From Heaven? People being raised from the dead ? There is so much you could have touched upon but instead this became nothing but a repudiation of Christianity while allowing Judaism a pass. Very strange indeed. Only mention of resurrection of the dead is a passage in Daniel(late judaism) where some will be raised, not all. For the rest there is no punishment or great reward in death. Just some shadow existence in the grave. And what bullshit argument. If there was a super reward or punishment after life then of course that would be told everywhere, its the most important thing of it all. What different does it make if there is no rain and all die when this life is just a tiny part of the total life that actually matters? This guy is talmudic reading in to things that it don't say. Wages of sin is death as it says. No where is Moses or the other early people warned about some afterlife punishment. Seems this rabbi is himself influenced of late jewish teachings where Babylonian and Hellenistic thinking was introduced.

Very true. I only left Christianity some time after I discovered all the flaws in Islam. After a while I asked myself the honest question: "If I were to view my own religion from an outsider's perspective, would it stand up or fail?" The answer became a resounding no. I don't think most people ask themselves this question, they just let the confirmation bias take them hook, line and sinker. There are just as many flaws in Christianity than there are in Islam. And Judaism, hinduism etc. It's all BS.

I like listening to Rabbi Tovia, he really exposes the dishonesty of the early church in terms of misquoting and messing up the format of the Hebrew Bible when it was integrated into the Christian Bible.

The claim that you can easily prove Christianity true is by citing it in the Tenach is ridiculous. The premises that the Tenach is from God and therefore correct or that if the OT is true therefore something that cites it is true are both unreasoned. While I think Singer is correct about the Greek (and thereby Hindu, Zoroastrian, Egyptian, and other cultural myths) highly flavoring Christianity, Judaism is just as flawed in the manner of proving its truth. Singer swallows the dangerous pill of believing his religion is correct without substantive evidence. Very flawed logic and reasoning.
The fact that the “Magi” showed up is clear Zoroastrianism had an influence on Christianity. If I say Cleric you know it’s Islam, Priest would be Christian, Magi is clearly Zoroastrian.
