Gates Wildlife Control was called out to investigate animal noises inside a garage. Our customer was doing some work out in his garage and was frequently hearing crying sounds behind the drywall. Before contacting our company he attempted to cut a few holes to try to find what out what was causing the noise, with no success.
Upon our arrival we determined that a mother raccoon and her babies were living down the wall inside the garage.
Watch to see how we humanely evicted the mother raccoon and see what she does next!

Momma raccoon cc: Thank you for providing us a heated one bedroom apartment. Nice and comfy. A little tight but the rent is good. It’s hard taking care of five little bandits on a single raccoon mother’s income. 😁

What's refreshing about Mr Gates -- the absence of preening virtue signalling and lecturing. We can see by his actions that he's a compassionate and thoughtful professional. He doesn't spend camera time explaining his approach and telling us how to be better people. He gets the job done, well.

In Germany they use an electrical wire around the roof. The raccoons get shocked and leave. They never come back. They will remember the shock. Needs to be applied in Canada and the U..S.

I am watching this May 9, 2020. Different world. A year ago today, these people assumed today would be very similar, but raccoon free. Little did they know the plague was coming, and their US neighbors to the South would make it all so much worse. On behalf of all sane US citizens, I want to apologise. I want to apologise for all of the arrogant and/or ignorant people whom either let or made this happen. But, darn, I do love your company. Thank you for sharing.

Who cares how they are taken care of? there not pets buddy. WAKE UP! These animals will cause HUGE damage to peoples houses, garages, attics, they'll chew giant holes in roofs, they'll chew thru electrical wires potentially causing house fire and killing humans and possibly kids living in a home.....sorry but kids come first NOT wild animals....However, in todays day and age it seems like the animals come FIRST then the kids come last.....you know were living in the last days when evil is seen as good and good is seen as evil. AWH! You guys do such amazing work . I am a country girl , Having seen many of these Precious animals in their Natural habitat. It wasn't long ago that while sitting on my back porch, I heard a chattering noise. I was sitting with my cell phone watching a video when all of a sudden I felt a tugging on the blanket That was laying across my Lap. I turned my phone toward my legs and to my bewildered eyes I saw the largest raccoon I had ever seen in my life. Here was staring me Down as though I had taken over its home. I was unaware that there was an entrance underneath the porch that led underneath the mobile home. But why was this raccoon staring me down on top of the porch. Apparently the only Entrance was between the Top and 2nd steps. Which was a bout a foot from where I was sitting. With my bright Flashlight on my phone,I think she was blinded from seeing me. Come to find out she had been out with her babies and was on her way back in at about 4 o'clock in the morning which was the time of that I was sitting on the back porch. She had hid them in a lilac Bush at the corner of the house , and I was blocking The entrants for her in her babies to get back underneath the house safely. I will just say she was not very happy with me being where I was. She threw up her front claws and maliciously attacked the bottom of my blanket. All I could do to get her off of me was fling my feet out and she went flying into the yard. I felt so badd for her but my cell phone actually manage to fly into the yard with her. I did not know what to do, Except to go in the house and waited out until she got all of her babies Safely under the house. Needless to say I quit going out on the back porch for coffee in the morning when I wake up That early, lol. I think I would have been more terrified if I had not raised a baby raccoon when my children were small. The sweetest most friendly little creature I had ever met, UNTIL !!!!! The day that she took my son's baby bottle away from him. She had been raised on a baby bottle from time we had gotten her. Her mother had been killed on the highway and near our home. We knew that she had babies underneath the house and after she had not returned to care for them we knew that she was the one that had gotten hit. After she took the baby bottle from my son she curled up around his head and drank the bottle. I did not like the fact that she was beaming in his play pin, so I went to scoot her out , and she was not having it. She came up with front claws ready to go. I had never seen any aggression out of her at all until then. It was about that time she discovered how to open cabinet doors in the kitchen. She had Somehow figured out How to get out of her cage. She emptied a bag of flour a bag of sugar and a Box of corn starch all over the kitchen cabinets. Then tore into every Box of cereal I had. And I had 5 or 6 of them on top of my refrigerator that she totally obliterated.It got to the point she was uncontrollable. Even chasing me through the house one day out of anger because I made her get out of my closet.She chased me up on to the headboard of my waterbed as she stood in the middle of the mattress with her front legs up like she was going to attack me. This was 1991 And we did not have cell phones back then. The close phone to where I was located at that time was in the Kitchen. About 10' from where I was at at the time . While standing on the headboard of the bed, I reached over with my hand and opened the door that led from my bedroom back to the kitchen. I jumped down into the doorway and grab the door really fast and shut it therefore the raccoon could get out of the Room. Believe me I locked the door to that bedroom until my husband came home from work that day. Yeah hes the one they're brought in the baby raccoon to care for. Living in Arkansas there's not many places that will take I and wild animals that have been rescued. It's pretty much up to you to take care of them or let them die. I could never just let an animal die, but I was not gonna keep this raccoon in my house For one more day. Although we had many fun times with the baby Raccoon when it was little, When they are grown and get angry at you, They will attack you. Believe me by evening the raccoon was taken to a wildlife sanctuary because it was full grown at that time . Hopefully she found a beautiful tree to hide in and to make her home. Again thank you for the hard work that you do to make sure that these animals are rescued and place back with their mothers when at all possible. Take care and God-bless Deb

Hey Gates. First of all, I have to say you have a great calm nature towards the animals. You do that really well with the raccoons. But I have a question: Is not it stressful for a raccoon mom to relocate to the fast 6 babies. As you can see in the video, there are not really many places there. I am aware that the habitat for raccoons in cities is severely limited but find a new place? Best regards

Hi Joszie, I appreciate and understand your concern for the mother racoon. Raccoons are always looking for alternate den sites and have pre-established sites in mind in the case that a predator comes along and the need to move quickly. In this case, our heated box seemed like a quick and easy den site for her, which is probably why she was in no rush to move along. Thanks for the support!

Serious question.. I rented a house a year ago. The landlord fed raccoons daily. When we moved in we continued to feed them. They had a bunch of babies and 30+ come every night. We are moving and landlord selling house. My question.. will they be okay if no one is feeding them? I’m praying they will have instinct to find food elsewhere and stop coming. Afraid they will starve or new people coming in will have them killed.
@gateswildlife
@gateswildlife 5 лет назад
Robin Bender While animals can become dependent on a food supply they still have the instinct to forage if that food supply was to dry up. You may want to warn the new owners that feeding was a common practice and that they will move on once they realize the food is no longer being supplied. I don’t think you need to worry as raccoons are opportunistic and will adapt very quickly.

Test the waters first; I tried communicating with a new neighbor - when I went looking for additional kits (after their mother was killed). All that resulted in was calls to animal control, and them a-holing the rehab group I worked with. So be careful - there are more haters than kind compassionate people. I mean, these people even called because they could see a raccoon sleeping in a tree!! Like - where are they supposed to sleep?!

This was so kind and compassionate for you to allow the mama and babies to stay in your nest box, after the stress of just being evicted from their "home". I don't believe other companies or people would have been so kind-likely would've kicked her out immediately. Since she stayed in your box, it makes me worried that she didn't actually have a second nest site, or one that wasn't as good or protective as your nest box. It appears that the raccoons in your residential area don't have many places to go. Would it be possible to build nest boxes for raccoons like people do for bats? If you built nest boxes, and covered the box with camo contact sheets so its not an eye-sore, and put them in more natural areas such as trees or natural parks, could this help raccoons survive and raise their young? If the raccoons are given places were they can live, maybe they wouldn't be so desperate to break into homes. Maybe you could even make a business out of this, where you make these boxes and people could purchase them to help raccoons and other animals in their areas! These poor animals were forced out of their natural habitat by urbanization and now they are doing whatever they can to survive, it is only fair we help them survive with our urban jungles.
