@@tomw0815 I always laugh when I hear that nonsense. Most professional roadies have way better bike handling skills than the average mountain bike enthusiast. 😂
@keirfarnum6811
@keirfarnum6811 3 месяца назад
@@MD-uu5nt I disagree. There’s a reason Peter Sagan was so damn good; he was a mountain biker first. When I raced XC in Alaska, there was somewhat of a rivalry between the Fairbanks and Anchorage racers and the Fairbanks guys were stronger cyclists with a lot of skill and a really high cadence riding style because they spent a lot of the early season on road bikes (trails open up later up there). Whereas the guys from Anchorage had a lot more varied experience with other sports; in particular the best bike handlers on technical stuff were myself and another guy and we were both street skaters and ski racers before getting into mountain biking. Every year the state championship switched between Fairbanks and Anchorage and when it was in Fairbanks, they would always make really technical difficult course that they thought gave them the advantage; but we continually spanked them specifically because we had a lot of experience with other sports that required superior balance. In my own case it helped that I road off road on traditional road cleats and shoes with double straps before clipless MTB shoes were developed, and it forced me to become a really good bike handler because I couldn’t get out of my pedals without reaching down to swipe the straps (and walking off road in hard plastic road shoes with a big plastic cleat sucked). The Fairbanks guys would have been better off making courses on open fire roads if they wanted to beat us. Somehow they never cottoned on to that obvious fact. 😂 But the reality is that good road riders today spend enough time off road in cyclocross and MTB that they develop all the skills they need along with being really good bike handlers in general. It might have been true 30 years ago that roadies would have been at a decided disadvantage, but there’s so much crossover between disciplines that those differences in bike handling style have gone away.

Pidcock is an outstanding all around bike racer, that’s a reality!! But UCI should implement some regulation where you must participate in all the XCO/XCC races unless you are sick or injured, so in this way is fair for all racers. I am sure unless he makes a mistake, we would win all stages (considering that Nino, the best ever, is 38 yo), but should be mandatory to participate in all stages, so you have the same risks ( crashes, falls) than everyone, and not only participate once in a while and basically steal the chance for winning for the ones that normally win!!
@Naah732
@Naah732 3 месяца назад
That's nonsense. No one should be forced to race every world cup . Not having enough time on the bike actually results in higher risk of injury

Pidcock is a tiny man with a huge ego. he is NOT an MTBer. at all. he pops in for a few races here and there but....i do not consider him a MountainBike racer.
@-op9fm
@-op9fm 3 месяца назад
He's not stealing anything from anyone. He's competing to win against the best mountain bike racers in the world and succeeding. The argument about not taking the same risks as the pure XC guys doesn't add up to me. He's been racing on the road, which is probably more dangerous and has probably accumulated more race days than most of the XC guys in 2024. I don't understand why people don't want to see the biggest talents racing in their disciplines, it should raise the bar for the other riders.

In 2015 Pauline Ferrand-Prevot was the first cyclist to ever be the world champion at MTB, CX, and road, all in the same year. Under your rules, that could never happen. Also, which one did she 'steal' from other people? I remember when I was merely a decent swimmer, a decent runner, but a very good mountain biker. Entered an XTerra race (off-road triathlon) and overtook everyone in the MTB leg. I didn't "steal" my trophy from the XTerra racers who were doing the entire series.
