What a spectacular day sailing the DF-65s at Eagleby!
This location, a sanctuary with a flock of eagles nesting in a gum tree above the sailing venue, offers a perfect backdrop. The eagles observed with interest the sailors who ventured into the lake to compete in the DF65 Fun Sprint Series, which is held weekly at Eagleby.
Today, 15 people turned up, including the fourth-ranked world champion, Mr. Andrew Gibbs, sailing boat number 514. He provided a spectacular lesson on settings and shared how he achieved such splendid results in the recent world titles held in Sweden. We captured a video of his informative session, which will be included on the RU-vid channel at a later stage.
The conditions were perfect: 21 degrees, blue skies, and a 10-kilometre south-westerly breeze, making for some very close racing. Thank you to all the participants for the joyful and jovial behaviour that is characteristic of Eagleby's great culture and friendliness. We welcome all new members and aim to increase our numbers regularly.
The day was interesting as beginners were given a 60 second handicap head start, making it a challenge for experienced sailors to catch up over the course. Two new starters, Andrew's sons Gatsby and Boston, sailed superbly despite it being only their fourth or fifth time sailing the DF-65s. We look forward to seeing the boys sail regularly.
The day ended with some great results from various skippers. The feather duster went to Andrew Gibbs, who sailed superbly throughout the day.
