A little bit about racehorse tack and equipment.. The audio isn't very good and I tried to make this as concise as possible so it wasn't too long.

Its good to see a video like this as many people are to quick to judge racing. You will always get a few bad apples in all industries. Cool video.... I ride work in Australia and we do things quite differently on our racehorses... we mostly use a breastplate and surcingle and our track pads look different too they are more forward cut than yours... I also rode racehorses in the uk and that was different again! But similar in that they adjusted their irons and girth once up in the saddle and they also started with bridle first and tacked up in the box... i love seeing how things are done all over the world....

Do you use defenders at all harness horses use them a lot as they hit a wall of sound going past the grandstand and because of the distance of most harness races they are nearly twice as long as gallops so they go past twice and spooking while pulling a sullied is more dangerous than on a galloping horse as the shafts don’t move withe horse

Hi Shelby! Where did you learn to exercise RaceHorses professionally? And do yards seem to prefer those who've had more growing up experience with horses? This is my absolute dream job to achieve here in Ireland, but, not having much experience with riding, not coming from a horse interested family, having to learn to take care of TB's myself, I can hardly ride, let alone riding Racehorses, is there any advice you can give to get into the industry? I don´t really like the racehorse scene but what you show is more than okay for me. You handle them pretty well and and theres no abuse at all... but some of the companions are really to extrem... but thats no hate to you :D youre doing awesome

Racing is harsh to the horses muscles and bones

Emily Equestrian Any type of riding puts more strain on the horse than would being a pasture pet, so the hypocrisy in the fact that you’re evidently a rider is a bit silly. The Jockey Club has easy to access stats that will confirm how low the breakdown rates are for you if you’re confused.

Luna.wolfsister Are you against people saying they house break their puppies, too or...? It’s literally just another term for saying starting. The two are interchangeable.
@l.wolfbrother1734
@l.wolfbrother1734 6 лет назад
Shelby Dennis no I'm not, it's possible I just get it wrong, in my language it means you abuse the horse or break the spirit. again, I meant no hate, it is possible you say break and it is a good thing lol
@Milestone-Equestrian
@Milestone-Equestrian 6 лет назад
Luna.wolfsister Well, like people using the term “house break” for potty training animals, breaking means the same thing. Just to train them.

Is it me or is she riding way too long and in the totally wrong position
@Milestone-Equestrian
@Milestone-Equestrian 6 лет назад
Holly Flynn It’s just you because if we’re not breezing them there’s absolutely no reason to shorten your base of support on such a spooky track. Stirrup length is a preference, not something that is dictated. No one here rides anywhere near as short as they would in town. Have you ever galloped before? Not sure how this is at all “the wrong position” since I’m up off their back, just not folded over in a breezing position. Please elaborate.

Shelby Dennis yes I have galloped ,I work on a racing yard and we always wear our stirrups at a length just shorter than we are normally used to then we get used to it and in the position I would want to be a bit lower down and a bit more in control
@Milestone-Equestrian
@Milestone-Equestrian 6 лет назад
Holly Flynn This length is shorter than a regular riding length. I find it very strange that if you’ve galloped before, you’d fold over and recommend getting lower when you’re not working them. I am completely in control. No one, including the #1 jockey in my province who helped to train me, gets in a lower position like you’re recommending unless they’re asking the horse to move out. That is how you’d lose control. Who do you gallop for? I find it very strange that you’d recommend a low position “for more control” on relaxed horses who are not working.

Holly Flynn stirrup length is all about preference you can ride as long or short as you want as long as you want. I prefer short but people at my yard ride long too.

Ship 758 It’s actually not at all and more regulated than the vast majority of equine industries. Our horses are all quite happy to be bridled and go out but thanks for your input. Just think if you put this effort into helping horses who actually need it, then you’d be doing something.
