ABOUT THE LONDON REVIEW BOOKSHOP
Located in the heart of Bloomsbury, just a Rosetta Stone’s throw from the British Museum, the London Review Bookshop has established itself as an essential part of the capital’s cultural life. Opened in 2003 by the London Review of Books, it’s a place for people who love books to meet, talk, drink excellent tea and coffee, consume delicious cake, and of course, browse.
Our selection of more than 20,000 titles ranges from the classics of world literature to the cutting edge of contemporary fiction and poetry, not forgetting a copious display of history, politics, philosophy, cookery, essays and children’s books. And our lovely shop, designed by Amanda Culpin of utility provides the perfect setting in which to explore them all.
THE CAKE SHOP
Surrounded by books and fragrant with tea, the London Review Cake Shop is the modern answer to London’s long-lost literary coffee-houses. Accessed through the Bookshop via a corridor in the history section, the Cake Shop offers a small but vibrant menu, a wide selection of fine teas and a superior espresso. Above all, it provides a haven for reading and reflection.

That faint lisp makes her voice that bit additionally attractive. Magnificent writer, of course. Of fiction and non-fiction. Of novels and essays. Essential reading. Stands out from amongst a group of emerging fiction writers - women writers all - apologies to the three Jonathan's - of this century.

Oh dear, poor CP seems so nervous and having difficulty doing anything but feeding rather pedestrian questions; kept waiting for the rather bored and clearly not enjoying it RC just to sigh and leave. I guess her taking no prisoner reputation goes before her. Great essays though.

She seems nervous - but really where did you see boredom? I am really curious...also, your comment implies an insider’s gossip-y knowledge - It is the kind of vitriol between-the-lines that leaves a nasty taste - one, that you can never be sure if it was meant or not - just enough to keep you in the clear and just enough to spoil the mood. It is unfair for both individuals. Personally, I find her whole demeanour reserved - to be expected - like an introvert who is awkward during exposure, and I think a little bit shy...you can guess the solid core but you can not reach it. The guy is decent and amicable and not a pompous a**, and he is doing a good job.
