Great presentation, great work! Without detracting in the slightest from their fantastic work to get any form of realism in the councils, one of the most important items is addressed in the 3rd minute: asking to define “climate emergency” and again(!) the observation they cannot. That is what is in a sense terrifying, since politicians, activists and climate scaremongers have commonly no idea what they are talking about, cannot define what they are talking about and consequently have no clue how their changes/measures/rules/laws could, would or might address said unknown and in what time frame. Ask simple questions like “can you explain to me what climate is?” or “can you explain to me what climate change is?” or although more challenging “can you explain to me how do you know that the increase in CO2 from 280 ppm to 420 ppm is (merely) caused by human activities and, by the way, what are human activities?”

This is all great advice but sadly in Scotland councils very rarely allow members of the public to address the council on any subject. And all big council decisions are made in advance (behind closed doors) by parties / councillors and then the vote is just the formal endorsement, and opportunity for grandstanding and press releases.

Except the West uses catalytic converters and has reduced pollution coming from cars (and technology in coal fired power stations has reduced their pollutions too); other parts of the world could be helped to use or develop such technology. Anyway, if you look up the Environmental problems associated with producing EV batteries, it's debatable they're any better at all in any situation; and from what EV owners I know personally tell me, they don't work well

Catalytic converters on cars have drastically cleaned-up the air in cities. London, for example, has clean air, according to the road-side monitor machines. Rachel, your CO2 beliefs are accurate. There are two facts that all parties agree on over CO2. Fact #1 - CO2 is 0.04% of the planets atmosphere. Fact #2 - Humans contribute 3% towards that 0.04%. Now a bit of maths. 3% of 0.04% = 0.0012%. So that if all humans disappeared tomorrow meaning that all transport, industry, and power, including all our exhalation of CO2 went away, then the atmospheric percentage would be 0.04% - 0.0012% = 0.0388%. The planet has always changed it's climate over time and will continue to do that whether we are living here or not. I think that the climate alarmists and modellers are spotting a rise in CO2 at the same time as spotting a small rise in global temperature, caused by a natural climate change event, and leaping to conclude that the CO2 rise is causal rather than just a correlation. Surely a rational mind would have to question how such a tiny human % addition in CO2 in the atmosphere would even be noticed by the planet.
@sirrathersplendid4825
@sirrathersplendid4825 Месяц назад
You’re right on the first fact, but not on the second. That 3% of CO2 is manmade is highly disputed. I think the figure goes back to isotope studies. With so many interconnected factors and variables it’s well nigh impossible to make such an accurate estimate.
@Hitstirrer

@sirrathersplendid4825
@sirrathersplendid4825 Месяц назад

@Hitstirrer
@Hitstirrer Месяц назад
@@sirrathersplendid4825 You misunderstand then. The 3% figure is an estimation of our contribution to the present concentration of 0.04% CO2 of the total atmosphere. Not an observed increase over an unstipulated period of time. If you are claiming 55% of such a nebulous observed increase then what is the figure of that observed increase from levels before industrialisation to enable that 55% to be calculated? You appear to be measuring apples against oranges with such a claim.
@sirrathersplendid4825
@sirrathersplendid4825 Месяц назад
@@Hitstirrer - I’m just reporting what others claim. Nothing more. If pre-industrial levels were 280ppm (as claimed by NOAA), then that’s an increase of about 140ppm to current levels. 55% of that would equate to 77ppm. That means 18% of existing CO2 would somehow be “tainted” in that it was created by burning of fossil fuels once locked in the earth’s crust.

Aside from the risk of fire inside your home while charging, I do think in relatively dense population - like in all towns in the UK - electric push bikes is a quite good and healthy way of getting around. That size of battery, unlike the car battery, is not going to ruin the environment. A typical bike battery is 100-200 times smaller than car battery. Buses are also better with batteries, because they stop local pollution and noise, while being more comfortable to ride. Also, they really use the batteries a lot, making better use of the materials used to make them. For cars, it appears even a small hybrid battery can save quite a lot of fuel, which is good almost however you look at it.
@paulmcgreevy3011
@paulmcgreevy3011 Месяц назад
A hybrid battery is legacy manufacturers con trick to get you to keep buying combustion engines so you’ll keep coming back for servicing and engine/transmission spares and exhaust systems and to keep you buying fuel and the car is more expensive to buy in the first place. Most people don’t plug them in often and they’re carrying around a lot of weight which creates a fuel efficiency deficit that is barely overcome by the energy in the battery. An EV requires no fuel, just requires electricity and requires very little maintenance due to the lack of moving parts. It will therefore last much longer, reducing cost again.
@lat1419
@lat1419 Месяц назад
An EVangelist! Praise be!
@thomaspaaruppedersen6781
@thomaspaaruppedersen6781 Месяц назад
@@paulmcgreevy3011 Look, it is true that a lot of 1st gen PHEV have a rather lousy setup. This was also my reason to buy an EV. I have put my faith in reliability of battery and motor, and I nurse both for the same reason. My current high-quality EV has the same monthly total cost of ownership as the 10-year diesel I had before. However, there are much more suitable configurations, which 'require' engine types not previously explored greatly by car manufacturers. A setup with a 100% serial configuration with a sufficiently large battery to absorb all transients and most city driving + a fixed speed and load point ICE generating electricity. Nissan has such a concept, and they claim efficiency of up to 50%, which is much, much higher than average for gasoline engines, while saving a lot of tech slapped on the engines to make them more 'engaging and drivable'. It is also considerably easier to make a fixed-rpm engine clean. In my post I was, however, mainly referring to non-plugin hybrids, such as the ones Toyota employ in most of their fleet now - the 'Prius setup'.

There’s no special radiative physics and thermodynamics for the atmosphere only. If CO2 can add planet changing heat from ppm differences, then it would do that in any radiating watts system. Sure could be valuable. Apparently 50 years of science hasn’t figured it out yet ?

And just as importantly, do you REALLY believe implementing any net zero policy [whether or not the people have been consulted and have consented] is going to have the slightest effect on changing the climate? You know it won't, we know it won't - it's an absurd fantasy to think so. So, realism please. CO2 is not the enemy, it is 'the gas of life', and fossil fuels, which are responsible for our comfortable existence and advanced understanding and knowledge must not suddenly become the great demon. Their phasing out must be carefully planned ensuring a continuous reliable source of energy is always available and without defacing the very landscape, we are told, is under threat.

Richard I also currently live in Wealden District Council and have noticed an uptick in Green Party promotion. Do you have any information regarding net zero tax increase in Wealden?

Just reminding y'all aboout the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. The colder atmosphere CANNOT warm the hotter Earth surface. It is physically impossible! The laws of physics is not a belief system, it's hard core science.

Uranium is not 'radioactive waste'. Sure, for lithium it is waste and it is ever so slightly radioactive, but to invoke the term 'radioactive waste' is wrong in my opinion. It doesn't pose any threat to act as pollution. Bananas, humans and granite tabletops are also radioactive, but we seem to live fine with them. All separation processes are potentially polluting but can also be made clean and safe, and we should insist they are. Polluting industry is a failure of local government, not a fundamental technical flaw. I like the message, but don't throw the baby out with the bathwater or risk spreading misinformation in the name of 'making our side win'.

After the nonsense of Covid,you would think the people in ‘power’ (Councillors) would have a little more self reflection,I’d even go as far as ‘self doubt’,yet they just carry on with this rubbish.

We are currently passing through the S1 dark Matter stream which we entered in the early 1990’s. It is going the opposite direction around the galaxy was described as a dark matter hurricane. Dark matter phase transitions could be a primary climate driver. If the solar system passes through an area of higher liquid dark matter content the planets cores would all receive more heat due to increased phase transitions thus heating the earth from the inside out. This could be controlled comparatively cheaply. Heating of the planet from the inside out would result in : Increased ground temperatures Increased sea temperatures Increased nighttime temperatures Increased seismic activity Increased earthquakes June-July 2020 Earth Mercury Venus Mars Jupiter Saturn conjunctions July 2020 Siberian heatwave and Antarctica temperature spike Jan 9 2022 Venus Earth conjunction March 18 2022 Concordia Station spiked 39 C degrees due to unusual air patterns near Australia North Pole regions hit 30C above normal March 26 2024 the Parker Solar Probe began its lap around the sun on April 4 it came out on the other side of the sun to start back towards Venus. In between it was actually inside of the Alfven Limit which is where I believe the surface of the dark matter sphere that surrounds the sun lies. This would be the equivalent of a speed boat sending a wake towards the earth. April 11 mercury and earth are in an inferior conjunction which would also send a bit of extra dark matter in earths direction. Mid June 2024 multiple heat waves. Venus atmospheric temperatures from 2009-2017 also were higher after conjunctions and the atmospheric wind speeds have increased by 33% probably due to the increase in incoming dark matter. NASA issued a climate change warning for Mars after Mariner 9 Neptune has been heating up since 2018 When the sun and moon are aligned it rains 1% more often than six hours before or after the alignment. The part of the sky where a full moon rises and its path across the sky will often be the first areas of the sky to form clouds for the next few days.

Just a quick point worth reiterating; Electric vehicles are justified on a basic lie (or if you wanted to give benefit of doubt let's call it a distortion of the truth). Specifically that one glorious day they will be emissions free, when all our electricity comes from renewables. This emissions free electricity is impossible in practise - I say this as an engineer who actually understands these things. So not only are EVs extremely polluting during manufacture, they will never be anything more than a marginal improvement re the emissions. And on a side note, the ridiculously inefficient way I see a great many EVs being driven, will reduce the marginal benefit in relation to co2 to no benefit at all.

Don't have to be emission free. Need just to be better than fossil fuels. They are automatically better than any finite fuel source. It is inevitable.

@@nicholaspostlethwaite9554 restating the lie doesn't make it any less of a lie. They are running on fossil fuels, gas is used to generate the electricity they use. This is what I was talking about. And one fine day we will not achieve 100% renewable electricity, it's not possible due to physics, engineering and the annoying practicalities of the electricity grid. However if you wish to 'believe' otherwise that's ok, you're entitled to your beliefs, I'll stick with reality.
@nicholaspostlethwaite9554

@@dutchtim8206 That is disingenuous. There will be a period of chicken and egg. If there were no EVs until all Electricity were all renewably generated it would elongate the hand over time. Do not let expecting the perfect, keep out the vastly improving and improved. Like many, my relatives have both solar panels and an EV. It is very largely run from their panels. An old dirty ICE car would be not at all run on renewables. Gas let alone oil will run out. Though there is a company that has set up a plant that makes 'natural gas' using solar power! Sucks out CO2 from the air and cracks water for the H2, so also a neutral cycle. They say solar is so cheap now and getting ever more so, that there are many other similar processes that become viable when the energy is so much cheaper it is not the restriction. In order to manufacture other industrial chemicals. So, though I suspect it will be limited to special needs or as a form of battery, the reverse situation where electricity makes gas is here already. Do not let the past hold back the future. Or you would still be horse drawn and powered. EVs, electricity not from digging up fossils is the future, it is inevitable. May take time to be perfect, ok, not a problem. You wont stop it. Yes the grid needs updating. Just a task to do. They are trying hard to import solar from Morocco I think it is, they want to lay a cable. This stuff is all possible already. ( I think it is daft to be dependant on a foreign source, much of the point of renewables, but money will decide sadly)

I'm probably one of the people who should hate you; I drive an electric car and have solar panels and all the paraphernalia. However, I agree with you on so much. (incidentally, my "green" stuff is all about saving me money, not the planet, because it doesn't). I'm also old enough to remember when "green" meant naive or stupid. Some things haven't changed.
