Rachel Zegler, who's playing Maria in Steven Spielberg's new West Side Story film (out December 2021), played the role a few years ago in Bergen Performing Arts Center's Performing Arts School production while she was in high school. She was 16 during this performance, in the summer between her sophomore and junior years.

This is so beautiful. The Tony isn't bad at all, especially for a School performance, but you can't help feeling sorry for him! Rachel's voice is incredible.

How beautiful and touching. Rachel Zegler's soprano is a jewel of a voice. What a treasure, this footage from the high school performance. No wonder she won the role in the film.

Tony struggles a little, a little flat and it's painful -just needs a little more training. But Rachel -wow! Go girl! got it all breath control, tone, etc.
