The Rachmaninoff Etude Tableau Op. 39 No. 5 is a really tragic etude, possibly the most tragic of the set. It combines an harmonically very dense texture with very lyrical, sometimes Scriabin-esque melodies. Sultanov playing is here, and as always, beyond amazing, with intensity, passion, and hidden melodies of pieces he shows.
