Rachmaninoff. Moments Musicaux, Op. 16 No. 4 - Presto. This was was composed by the then 23-year-old, during a period in which he decided he would not compose. He was waiting for the premiere of his first symphony, and didn’t want to write anything until it was performed. His decision changed, however, when he was robbed on a train, and lost ‘a substantial sum of money.’ Hence, he wrote this composition to recoup his losses. The work comprises a set of movements that together summarize his knowledge of piano composition up to that point. Each movement references an existing style. This movement was written in the format of the virtuoso Etude, pioneered by Chopin, specifically referencing his Revolutionary Etude. It does so with rippling, never-ending left hand figures and a minimal right hand melody. Soon after composing this set, Rachmaninoff had his disastrous premiere of his first symphony, after which the composer fell into a deep depression. After three years of composing very little or not at all, Rachmaninoff re-emerged with his triumphant second symphony - perhaps the only composition that is dedicated to a psychologist - as Rachmaninoff dedicated it to the physician that helped him recover and find joy in both music and life again. I hope you enjoy this performance by Tae-Seung Park, and I hope you get some rest on these last few days before Christmas ♥
wonderful performance Rousseau ❤️ also none of your classical music can no longer be downloaded anymore could I know why because I depend on these downloads a lot thanks Rousseau ❤️
Whenever i listen to other Rachmaninoff compositions i seem to understand why he started to hate his prelude in c sharp minor cuz he had composed so many other beautiful and fabulous pieces and majority only wanted to hear that one piece! What a beautiful piece and so nicely performed
You start to hate a piece when people ask you to play it over and over again too often, regardless of the composition. I came through it myself when people asked me to play one piece constantly for 1 week and now it disgusts me to even play it
What is your favorite short Rachmaninoff piece? I'm torn between this one and his Etude Tableau Op. 39 No. 6 - which was the very first upload on this channel :D
When i was 5 years old I heard this live performed by a good friend and it was the moment I knew I wanted to play piano. This piece literally changed my life. So powerful.
@@Anonymous-wj6bu this joke is about 100 years old. The first time I heard it was in the mid-80s and the punchline was something like "no problem Buffalo Cum"
omegagon yeah but a prelude is meant and built to sound like a beginning. This has a dramatic feel to it like something is going to happen, like it’s a theme or something, rather than having the feeling that some other music should follow it. It’s hard to explain. 😂
@@bazzfromthebackground3696 feels like knowing youre gonna have to go to war, or getting robbed on a train, which is exactly what happened to rachmaninoff
Rousseau: "His decision changed, however, when he was robbed on a train, and lost ‘a substantial sum of money.’ Hence, he wrote this composition to recoup his losses." *no wonder it is harder than Beethoven's "Rage over a lost penny"*
Rousseau is literally the only one capable of properly performing this song. Most pianist make it sound so noisy and messy. I have the utmost respect for this man
@@jonathanlebon9705 I beg to differ. Midir took me longer to take down than learning this (I play on mkb and the piano I started when I was 3, I'm 21 now)
I love the different interpretations. I listened to Kassia's which is faster and probably more closer to the intended tempo, but for some reason I just find this version more rich. This one I can here more of the notes individually and can soak it all in. All and all it's fun to see different unique playstyles.
0:43 I like this part it makes me feel like I’m running from the past present and future but nothing’s changing and as the composure goes on I plummet more and more into depression and insanity from regret and pain
Listen to Lugansky's cover. A much better picture will be painted in your mind. In my opinion, this cover was underwhelming. To people who have not listened to it before, they will think otherwise, but once they listen to Lugansky's cover, they'll understand what I mean.
Have you listened to many of his compositions? I genuinly recomend to listen to ALL of them. Search all his works. it will take a while but you will not regret. I have found some really nice ones hidden
Splendid performance of this essential piece by Rachmaninoff. I never get tired of it, even after years (unlike my left hand !). Thanks for creating and sharing these videos.
When I was choosing the comosition for my working year ( we did it with my teacher), she offered me one of Rachmaninov. I loved his pieces, so I agreed with her, we started to watch the notes. So when my teacher looked through one book with them, she noticed this piece, went to the piano and started to play. During her playing, she was crying, but didn't stop. It was very emotional. She finished and told the story to me. Her father was a soldier, so in her family was a strict discipline, but she with her sister (she was a musician too) and brother loved him anyway. He always did all for their family. Girls grew up, studied at the conservatory and became music teachers. His father loved the music. Girls played for him every evening. And when affliction has come, he died, they had a depression. On the funeral my teacher played this masterprice.....her sister and other relatives thought that she lost her mind and prayed her to stop, but she has known, that the best thing she could do at this moment was a playing for him....This piece is the memory for her father. So now my teacher is 75 and she is very strong and powerful woman. Her sister and daughter left the country many years ago, bit she stayed at her homeland, in Russia. She has a heart of gold, but had a really hard luck
@@fattit7598 Do you like piano no mori? I really like that anime and when I watch a video about this anime I almost always see you in the comments (Sorry if my English is bad)
Holy shit I would’ve never thought Rousseau would’ve uploaded that, it’s actually my favorite piece yet not as popular as it should be in my opinion. It’s nice more people will discover it thanks to Rousseau. Great performance, as always Rousseau shows us that he is far above the average pianist! Even though I think the absolute best interpretation of this piece belongs and is beautifully owned by Lugansky.
Did you know, that within each of Rachmaninoff’s pieces, he would include a sequence of 4 notes that was meant to represent the syllables in his name. _Now you cant unhear it, you’re welcome_
@@mynameisopulence ohhh u were referring to the G G E E. I've always known that that voicing should be emphasized however many pianist dont do that. But what I didnt know is that voicing represented his name xD
I haven’t been able to sleep, then I remember in high school I used to listen to classical music and watched the way they were played and tried to predict how it would sound like to try and obtain an ear. I was semi successful, but… Music is so beautiful. Lol, it’s so soothing, so relaxing, so thought out, so heartfelt. It’s such a culmination of a persons thoughts and feelings. It’s so beautiful.
1,000 SUBS WITH 3 VIDS CHALLENGE First of all, that sentence is grammatically incorrect. Since you're talking about fingers that is plural, the word "is" should be replaced with "are". Plus how do you know that Rousseau is a male?? What if he is a female. Therefore this is assuming genders. Dont steal comments for likes
This is my favorite song from 2019 on Spotify. I've listened this song for over 3000 minutes. It still amazes me. Great playing. I just prefer a little bit faster version but still, you are great!
In case you want to use the correct French for your title: If you play several pieces, it's "Moments Musicaux" If you play onle one piece, it's "Moment Musical"
Amazing! Sadly, Lugansky set the bar so high I cant help but compare all renditions to his own. Like I said though. Amazing performance! I've been looking forward to this one.
This interpretation sounds so reserved, yet that seems contradictory to the nature of this piece. This is a piece of sheer and utter emotion. It seems like a weird choice to play it in this manner.
Well, I think that you can put more entisiasm to the peace becouse it sound to robotic and it is easy to see many errors that you have in most of the parts, but you do it good
i heard this while i was listening to the whole rouseau clasical playlist and i was thinking it sounded off and i remmebered i always would listen to the kassia version
