I am familiar with most of these pieces in their original form, but I've often lamented how the Russian lyrics make them lose their appeal to a modern audience. I love the freedom Wild has taken in making the songs pianistic; in this quasi-impressionist form these miniatures seem to me to be more approachable. I could see university students attempting these at a recital.
@@milesgilbertpiano What do you mean "originally"? I have never seen any vocal opus by Rachmaninoff called "songs", they are called romances originally and generally, btw it's usual for all Russian composers, (besides some exceptions), it goes to music history slowly)
