This just might be the three most beautiful minutes of music ever written. I don't know what universe Sergei Rachmaninoff came from, but I want to spend eternity there. I've seen the original orchestral version of this piece live. Half the audience was in tears, including myself. The Loveridge piano transcription is the gold standard, and this is the best performance of that transcription I've ever heard. Just fantastic on every level. I aspire to learn it, but I fear it's above my skill level.
Michael don't give up. Start practicing this in the key of C and you'll progress to original someday if you choose. Every time I play this for a gig people are moved like us with the beauty of emotions that was intended to touch our souls. Sergei was given this piece like Mozart etc from the heavenly music spheres. GBU on your musical journey. We're all a WIP😇
The algorithm goddess sent you to me & I'm so grateful. This is quite different from any other I've heard. I love it, & I will listen again & again!! You played it perfectly, with the gentleness & respect this exquisite music deserves!! Thank you, kind sir. 🤗☺️❤️🙏🖖🎉
After exiled to the United States, Rachmaninoff focused on performing rather than composing to make a living. With a height of 190 cm and a hand size of 30 cm, he was able to press the 13th interval (do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-si-do-re-mi-fa-sol-la) at once. Meanwhile, in the summer of 1934, while on a family trip to Switzerland, he devoted himself to composition and composed 'Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini' for piano and orchestra. At the time, avant-garde music that suppressed emotional expression was attracting attention in the United States, but contrary to the trend, he composed this piece that bursts out emotions with lyricism and achieved great success. This piece consists of 24 variations and is Rachmaninoff's last piano work.
With so many layers to resolve or tones to pass, it's hard to do it all in a timely manner....and I respect that. A wonderful playing of one of my faves. Bravo !
It's even better with a full orchestra. I first heard it on my car radio, incongruously driving away from a rubbish-tip. The tip though was actually in a stretch of pleasant countryside. Which was a bit incongruous as well.

I knew it as a fan of Rachmaninov and his love for Jazz which influenced the whole piece (Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini) which this is a small part of. Brilliant!
