Calling High Wycombe one of the 10 most wealthiest places in Britain is completely absurd, it never has been anything close to wealthy. I served 20 truly miserable years there before I managed to get out and never looked back. It got progressively worse after the race riot of 1981. As for the multi-cultural building under the flyover not being good enough ...... we used it for our boxing gym for years and it was fine and we were grateful to have somewhere affordable for us to train in.
I you used live across the road from Kevin Brown in Hithercroft Road in Downley, and my brother used to go and hang out with him sometimes. A really nice and a Wycombe character! Hope he's doing well!!!!!
We used to play Football against Hithercroft. Up until now, I've never knew where they got their name from as it's not an area outside of High Wycombe, Like Hazlemere, Penn etc. Well now I know.
High Wycombe! there are many racists - even once I was nearly abducted in broad daylight in the centre. It is a beautiful place, but there are so many miserable people.
Yep being the only Iraqi means that you’ll be getting it from every race. Even the Pakistanis sometimes they’re face changes every time I tell them I’m Iraqi
@@Hassanhadi2607 it may be that all very recent kurdish migrants ignorantly insist on asking people born in England and 3rd and 4th generation " where you from?" as if everyone not blonde and blue eyed is a migrant like them. Thats probly why they didnt like you
Thank you for this film, i lived in WGH at that time..The youth had it hard...nothing new under the Sun..the only way today is to know your worth, and who you are ...please read in Yah book what it says about you, you are ..in James 1: There is a letter written to you. My HEBREW brothers and sisters. Teach the children who's they are bring hope and a new vision.
My (white) grandparents lived next door to a family from St Vincent in Everest Close in HW the 1980s. Both families got on like a house on fire. I played with the St Vincent family's children as a boy.
i was in playboys sound system sure i was there that night night was young locked myself in the mini bus 🤣🤣🤣 used to go to watch yardforce when they played
Love finding classic documentary footage like this, about what it was like for different ethnic minority communities living in the UK at this time. I’m not sure if the narrator of the documentary was aware, but High Wycombe had/still has some highly deprived neighbourhoods with very high rates of child poverty for example (and large proportions of residents from Asian/Black backgrounds). So if you consider unemployment/poverty, coupled with the fact that they often faced racism and over scrutiny from the police, then the contributing factors to their discontent were not actually that different to those in inner city areas of the UK.
It doesnt sound like youve actually visited High Wycombe my friend. Theres nothing deprived about the British Asian communities every car is a mercedes or bmw, every house has an extension going on, they have 9 freehold mosque buildings worth multi millions. I dont think anyone told you this documentary is over 35 years old. Most of the windrush brits of wycombe moved to London. There are a very recent generation of immigrant indians and africans but again they are hardly deprived and contrubute a lot
Hi my friend, thanks for your reply to my original comment. I am aware that this is an old documentary, and yes I have visited High Wycombe many times before. When I used the word ‘deprived’, I meant in the sense of Government Indices of Multiple Deprivation data, and House of Commons Child Poverty data. Based on that data, there are actually parts of neighbourhoods in High Wycombe such as Castlefield where >40% of children are classified as living in relative poverty (in terms of UK standards). By no means was I suggesting that this applies to large communities as a whole, just in particular pockets of the town (as with many towns/cities in England). Thanks.
Big up Richard Sampson 👍🏽 It was the black men of high Wycombe that put the work in and fought for freedom against racism for the ethnic community, not the Pakistani community unfortunately they stabbed man in the back and reaped the benefits from our work. An today black men have the Asian community being racist towards them even thou we are one. Sad but the truth.
Biggest pile of wank I’ve ever heard. Pakistani and Asians had to contend with their own TYPE of racism in the 60s and 70s when they arrived . I.e Muslim faith, different clothing, aswell as being a different colour. In which they fought against and became successful. So to say Pakistani and asians are successful because of black people is frankly ridiculously and laughable. I live in high wyc and 90% of Asians and blacks get on. So have no idea where your getting your info from.
Let's be honest, it was mainly the blk afro carrib circles that were or got the ball rolling with retaliation against oppression/marginalisation etc, being the only or majority social group in the UK. Whether it was 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s up until present 21st century. Asian/East Indian had brief spells in the 70s, 80s, but had full out gone to consistent rebellion from the influence of the War on terror influenced by Sadam Hussein/Taliban in support of a Jihad. Not so much before the ayatolla (shah), Gadaffi was in full presence. As a result to all this battling 4 self determined HR, UK governments had to come to a conclusion of ethnic groups and used other migrant groups to be model groups and coporated access to trade, retail outlets, food and drink, private cab services, warehouse cash/carry, & other arrival groups from Mediterranean, Jews, mandarin spoke Asian, and nw in modern periods of EU labor force of East Europe and so forth have benefited from this but the blk afro carrib groups could not or bn invited to consistently benefit these tangibles regardless of being that group always protest/March speak out, forming political equality groups, whilst every body else could endure in long term trade goals which has given other groups who now upgraded to real estate, properties, wholesale trade, computer tech firms, online banks, & in the fact that some of these chosen groups saved well through family members/kids working for free or hiring fellow countrymen that owed a debt to work in voluntary sweat shops. The governments have instilled an agenda to kp blk UK locals disenfranchised based solely that everybody else can have but blks can only buy from and consume from which has no long term goals besides being that only consistent group seeking equality and constitutional rights, but that was when laws were introduced when many UK bill passes were to allow blk communities to opportunities, the Laws instead targeted blks to stop search, enforcement poking and pushing heavy handed false arrests knowing it will cause reactions, resentment, retaliation, criminal records and finally locked away. It's a domino effect and has broken families and homes, and opportunities.
