I ordered these after watching your video and you left way too many steps out of your footage. There are virtually no detailed instructions out there that i am aware of and it seems i have spent maybe 12 hours trying to get them to work. Still not working right. I have zero ability to adjust them and have now wasted money on the kit and will have to throw it all away and buy entirely new fork assemblies. I am very upset that you left so many steps out of your DIY. 😢
This video is for the spring installation kit, there’s no adjustment available on the spring kit. I rewatched the video and it is not missing any steps. If you have the full cartridge kit, I have another video for that, if you need help hit me up at kent@eastcoastish.com
I moved the springs into the Monkey and I did the full Racing Bros kit in the Grom. Honestly they both feel about the same (and both feel amazing). The RB springs-only kit feel like the full kit on medium damping and high rebound. I'm about to turn the Monkey into a track-focused bike and plan to just keep the spring kit in there since they're so good.
None planned so far. The tighter gearing of the 5 speed box feels really good. Unless I start making a lot more power I'll probably leave it as is. Are you looking to make gearing changes?
I’m surprised you didn’t go with actual fork kit. The springs and oil will help but it’s the valving that comes with fork kits that makes the magic. Either way, glad to see your doing suspension stuff now. I literally just installed my cam and did the first start up 5 minutes ago. All sounds well. The CJR cam sprocket looks sweet too.
Yeh, first time doing suspension so was a bit apprehensive. I think ultimately I'll put these springs in the Monkey and do the full Ohlins or RacingBros kit on the Grom.
@@eastcoastish You’ll love the kits. The job is pretty much the same except you get new damping rods and you just move over a couple parts from the stock rods….. and done. Also, I wasn’t paying attention but just thought about it. Did you put in 230ml or 220ml? 230ml is what the kits use to call for but some people were experiencing hydrolock. I believe even Ohlins changed the amount to 220ml which corrects that issue which or may not show itself with 230ml. Just a heads up for next time.
You got me wondering if those fork tubes are the same as the SF Groms. I really like the silver finish over the gold that the older bikes come with. Great video.
I could be wrong, but I think it’s supposed to be 607 lb/inch3 torque. Racingbros instructions say 700 kg/cm, and the online calculator came up with the number above. If so, we’d need an expensive torque wrench. I hope I’m wrong. www.steadygarage.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Racing-Bros-GROM-MSX-Front-Fork-Kit-SOP_Rev2.pdf
