This is some of the most wild mental strength. Running with it being 90 degrees, throwing up, the crazy amount of blisters, and not being able to eat. Most people would have given up having one of those problems. Very inspiring!

Constantly inspired by Sally. I’ve run a decent amount of races, with half marathons being my longest distance. I have severe nerve damage and was told i’d never walk again after breaking my back in 2009. My first half was in April of 2009 and my accident was December 2009. I had planned to run fulls then 50k’s then who knows, but it took me four years for me to relearn how to walk then run and I ran another half in 2013 and over the last 10 years i’ve run and run and run 5k’s, 10k’s and half’s. I don’t know if i’ll ever reach that full distance but i’m going to keep trying and keep struggling and keep suffering. 🏃‍♂️ 💪🏼

I also run half marathons and had a casual run club come it at where I may have broken a race walk record after working on my military days and need to go try it out at USTAF. I’m still NCAA div 1 scholarship levels on not isolated or measured to course to my 5ks and 10ks at Masters entry, so I have a lot of time left. I’m happy for these records. This is where I think pursuit by traffickers, fasting and campsite improve my run from where I was a bivouac to soldier road march. We all have strengths. I know mine is carrying more weight than an average soldier and completing a 25k road march with rifle.

This documentary is NOT what I expected. The video thumbnail intrigued me. I’m not a runner and the only knowledge I have of running is what I see. I know the will to succeed at something can sometimes outweigh what the body is telling you to do. The mental, emotional and physical state this woman displayed is beyond human. I compared her face at the beginning of the video to the time the medic was treating her feet. It looked like she aged 20 years. An absolute monumental success.

Ok, so I spent 11 years in the Army, and I think the most extreme thing I did was a 60 mile patrol carrying a fair amount of weight, with numerous tasks along the way, 2hrs mandatory sleep, over the course of about 36 hours, made more interesting by badly rolling my ankle after about 4 or 5 miles. Completed it, but ended up going straight to hospital for 3 or 4 days followed by a few months of physiotherapy. Considering how the first sections went, to have the mental wherewithal to continue is incredibly impressive, because when your body is screaming at you, it is only your mind that can keep you going. Very good move to get your blisters treated. They go bad very quickly and you can end up in a world of hurt. Exceptional result all things considered.

The revelations and challenges and inner monologue to the mental struggle shared here are incredibly moving. What a beautiful record of the power of community, but mostly the fact that Sally is a fucking superhuman BEAST. As Billy said, "this is what you do." You are an inspiration, congrats on 3rd place! 💛

I had a similar experience to this. I remember I was taking the Bar exam for NY. I had taken and failed the test before. The day before the exam I went on my exercise bike for 3 hours. For some reason I couldn't sleep that night. I stayed up all night in my bed, got out, and went to the first day of exams. The second day I managed to get a little sleep. I ended up passing the exam with a score of 270, which is passing for not only NY, but most other states as well. Looking back, I feel like the reason my mind was so restless was because I had studied so much and I knew that it was my exam to lose. Watching Sally get physically sick and be unable to sleep, I can't help but feel she felt the same way after training for the race. It's such an odd feeling. I feel like a 200+ mile race is likely mentally harder than a bar exam, but it's still quite hard. And something about the weeks and weeks of prep combined with the do-or-die moment of the event--something about that just makes your mind not want to turn off for some reason.

I watched this video just days before I ran my first ultramarathon (Mt Taylor, NM - 50 k). I had bowel problems two days before, during the race and still two days afterwards. Your perseverance encouraged me to run the race anyways. At mile 8 I found relief and was strong for the remainder of the race. Thanks for the inspiration!

I caught a cold before my race last week. I though I was done and not going to be able to race. This motivated me to push through it and remember everything I had trained for. I PR my marathon by 31 mins! Thank you for your inspiration Sally!
