It's the final ART summer crit race at Abingdon Airfield and I raced the E,1,2,3 race. What a brutal experience it was.
Some absolutely brutal attacks with no where to hide and the power needed to stay with the front of the race is mind blowing. Letting a gap go 20 minutes in meant a group of 4 of us got dropped with 9 up the road. We worked well together for the next 40 minutes to battle it out for the final top 10 position.
I hope you enjoyed the video and please do Like & Subscribe!

Damn, that was funny. Thanks for the video of the commentary. It was awesome. “He elbowed me through, and all I could do is apologize “ has to be the best. We’ve all been there.

😂 thanks appreciate it! The pain of being useless in the break 😬😂

Top video and well done for giving it a good go! It does feel like the 4's and 3's are too afraid to lose sometimes- whereas letting a break form and then trying to bridge would be much more productive. And as you say- we need to learn sooner or later if we really want the points. You looked like you were only a move or two from hanging so I reckon you'll crack it soon 👌🏻

Yeah cat 3/4 racing is completely different and when the elites get in a break they know how to roll through which rarely happens in the 3rds and everything just gets shut down for a bunch sprint 👎 yeah with a bit better race craft and ideally on fresh legs I think I will be there or there abouts 👌

That looked tough. But incredible to watch. Looked identical to my first e/1/2/3 at the don. Hung on for dear life for 15mins then bam out the back with a couple of others. Great to watch though, and when you’re in the thick of it, it’s weirdly awe-inspiring. I think to myself “I can’t wait to be that fast”. So many levels 😃

Super tough… not a great course for me nothing technical and big long drags 😅 yeah it’s super inspiring how powerful and fit these guys are but that’s the goal for next year 👌

Glad to see it’s not just me that’s been dropped early in the E/1/2/3 at Abingdon this season! Great effort, you’ll get your cat 2 licence soon - took me a month to get the final point I needed in cat 3.

It’s a tough track for sure… you can’t afford to let the wheel go and the attacks are relentless 😅 I’m hoping that when I drop my training volume from next week the legs will be a bit fresher for racing and I can get my last 3 points 🤞

Great insight - I can relate! Although from Cat 4 lol. This is how you improve though, by riding with people who are slightly better - there's not much difference there imo, that max watt bomb at the start may have burnt several matches in one go? Great to see your journey in so much raw clarity!

100% the best way to improve by going out of our comfort zone and pushing the limits 💪 I think I burnt all my matches with that first max effort 😂 I instantly regretted it but we live and learn!

all good experience mate - those noodles need some more power work though! e1-2 looks like a big step up from cat 3 - at least you've earnt three, maybe four cakes on the next chilled ride with the rocket :)

The noodles need a lot more power that’s for sure 😅 it’s a huge step up but another year of plenty of cake/training and I think I can get there 🤞

I’ve just started riding and come across your channel. I’m no way near the level to compete yet but how do I find out where these races are and when, so I can come and watch? Keep up the good work, great vids man 👌

Hi Chris, all of the races are on the British cycling website 👌 can’t recommend giving one a go they are all in categories so you will be racing riders with much the same experience and you will likely surprise yourself 👍 but if you get chance definitely get down and watch one to get a feel for it!

It’s actually very similar to u16 racing with attacks going and then everyone sitting up and then the next minute everyone is sprinting again. Also be interested to know what kind of speed you averaged
@GiorgioCoppolaCycling
@GiorgioCoppolaCycling 2 года назад
That tends to be the way in a lot of racing with everyone trying to get away but the sprints just get a lot harder with each category 😅 our average speed was 42.8kmh/26.5mph (the front bunch would of been faster)

You going to be knock on deaths door in 5 minutes 😂 There basically tactically sprinting. I suspect they all know they have the stamina, sprints are what differentiates them I’m not sure… but the thighs on them guys look massive… I think they broke you 😂
