my son with an autism spectrum disorder was subjected to abuse in every special education class he was placed in. our district used to have classes, and still does, that had lockable padded cells in them if students acted out, typically because the staff hadn't prepared them for change, they were locked in. our former special education head, now deceased, told me once that one of the classrooms in a distant neighborhood had one of the lockable rooms in it. the room had a camera in it. The then superindent of the district. told the head of special education services not to show the parent the video because she would get the wrong idea. The head of special education told me that he showed the parent the video because she would get the right idea. He was a hero to parents like myself and many staff members.
