I really like old school and tend to try more for snooker clearances than open rack situations. They tend to involve more short side leaves where you only go for a rebreak when all the outliers are handled. It's also really helpful for players who aren't, shall we say, ready for multi-rack runs. If you don't open everything wide you are less likely to leave an easy run for your opponent when you, inevitably, miss a shot.
