It depends on how you are measuring. The panels don't change width, so if you are measuring down the slope they should space out the same. However, if you are measuring straight out (such as with a laser level or transom) then it will throw it off.
That's the downside of aluminum. Once installed, there is no easy way to fit a new panel in without digging up a post and resetting it since that 3/4in of rail has to fit into the posts on both sides. You can cut the old panel out, but the new one will need a post pulled up or you would have to cut a new panel in and mount it with wall brackets.
With all aluminum fence, they are all technically racking panels. So you can install them in the racked or standard position. Its when you get into steel an iron that you have standard solid welded panels and separate racking panels. But in terms of an overall aluminum fence installation, its normal for most panels to be un-racked and then rack just the ones you need to.
You would have to likely look into a combination of racking and stair stepping the panels. To get a wider range of racking motion, we would have to punch some really large holes in the rail to the point it starts to weaken the rail and make for some very unsightly large punches around the picket.
Gates cannot be racked. They have to be welded solid with framing so they don't sag and you can connect your hinge and latch hardware. If you had a gate on a sloped run, it would have to level out or step there to handle it.
@@dtm8073 We typically will not make a racked gate. It very easy for a slight error in measurement to render the gate as unusable. It can also cause issues with latch hardware working properly and the gate swinging shut too fast and rough at an angle. We do not unless you are getting into something custom with an order of 10 panels or more. Industry standard on iron and steel fence panels is an 8ft width and 6ft wide for aluminum. You could cut two 6ft aluminum panels to 5ft wide with a post in the middle. You will have some waste, but it will probably cost the same as custom and not have the longer custom lead time.
@@Ironfenceshop thanks. I need to span the 10’ without a post. Looks like I’ll have to go with iron as aluminum would be a stretch for that distance. Thanks again
How are you, I'm from Canada but could you please tell me an estimate of the Fence that you was giving an example with your co-worker?... I need something around that particular size, so how much it will cost me that one exactly with and without installation. Thank You. Regards.
