I know it’s an old video but I just have a question, what are the permit weights in those axle set ups? And what states recognize them? I see them here in Texas once in a while but not as often at the conventional 2+3+2 with just 4 wheels per tire and I always wondered if the states recognize the extra tire for the bridges for more than 46k in 2 axles
western states recognize the trunnion setup up to 60k with regular permits if spread to 10 wide. 46k if the rear is closed to 8'6". I don't remember the bridge laws.
Pulled a Murray for years for B.W. Farley out of Garden Grove, and Marco out of Santa Ana , Ca. Who is and where from is Rackleybilt, a Murray knock off ??? Look exactley or damn close.
Cool video, thanks for the tour I wondered what that place looked like.. I've been to Murray (and even met Doug Murray). My dad bought two trailers from them many years ago so thats my connection. I have a question about your Rackley lowbed ramps.. can you drop the trailer if the 5th wheel is not fully slid back? To me ..it looks like it, and I always wanted to try it because sometimes it's very hard to get under a loaded trailer from off the ground. Plus if your timing is not perfect you risk slamming the pin in the fifth wheel and thats not good on the equipment.. Seems like with the airbags dropped it clears the tires too. In my opinion it would be easier to get under a loaded trailer if the neck was slid back slightly.. and your gonna slide it anyway. But anyways your videos are awesome thank you for sharing what you do! Although I don't lowbed anymore unfortunately, I am still very passionate about it and the industry. It seems like you love what you do and your proud of it, to me we are brothers by trade. Lowbeders are different then the other truckers out there, not saying we're better but, ..maybe we are! It's a specialized niche and not just anyone can do it. Hey can you make a video breaking down your trailer and removing the neck? I've pulled Murray, Cozad, Aspen, & some others I can't remember but never a Rackley so it would be cool to see, just a though. Take care, stay safe, have fun. X
Yes I can drop it if the 5th wheel is about a foot from the rear if I want. A unhooking video is a good idea. I will try to get one soon. Thanks for the support
My last Murray was an 88 model 4 rail 21’6” deck. The rackley is a 21’6” deck with the extended tail. They weigh about the same. So far I have had good luck with Geramy and Rudy at rackley. Not so much with Murray, but others have. To me, Murray is a new company with big shoes to fill and time will tell. Pricing is about equal. I spoke with Geramy a lot when I was there and there’s been a significant cost increase thanks to materials increasing. Rackley offers a one year warranty. I was over my warranty by the time I got it back to California but they still took care of the updates the trailer needed free of charge. I will make a video of things they did maybe tomorrow.
I was a Murrey fan boi as it was all I pulled for the first 20 of my 32 years in the biz. I pulled a few Cozads and an Aspen ultra lighttweight triple 16 nine axle ( under 75K tare with the beam deck in and thats all in tractor, fuel etc...) I was skeptical of the Rackley when we bought one, but Jeremy told me what it would do and he gaurentee'd it so we went with it. I'm glad we did. It has the best of Murray, combined with the best parts of a Cozad, and the best parts of an Aspen. Can't really find much wrong with it. Is it perfect? No. There is no such trailer as it is all a big compromise in the end. The Rackley is the closest I've seen to perfect, however.
